Dupilumab in chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyposis and concomitant cystic fibrosis: a real-life experience.

Purpose: Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) has been distinguished in primary CRS, a primary inflammatory disorder limited to airways and secondary CRS, in which the sinonasal pathology is caused by a systemic disease or a local pathologic condition. Primary CRS is in turn classified in Type 2 and Non-type 2 on the basis of the endotype and of the pattern of the immune response. Advance in the knowledge of CRS has led to new therapeutic options, among which Dupilumab (anti-IL4R).

Silicone deposition and adverse pulmonary events secondary to breast implant rupture.

Silicone breast implants are common but may be associated with a number of complications including implant rupture. This case reports a 38-year-old woman with bilateral breast implants who presented with breast unevenness, triggering a cascade of investigations that identified implant rupture. A computed tomography scan of the thorax showed subpleural enhancing nodules in the left lung of equal density as the implants, repeat computed tomography thorax months later showed no interval changes.

Helical coil design with controlled dispersion for bunching enhancement of protons generated by the target normal sheath acceleration.

The quality of the proton beam produced by target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA) with high-power lasers can be significantly improved with the use of helical coils. While they showed promising results in terms of focusing, their performances in terms of the of cut-off energy and bunching stay limited due to the dispersive nature of helical coils. A new scheme of helical coil with a tube surrounding the helix is introduced, and the first numerical simulations and an analytical model show a possibility of a drastic reduction of the current pulse dispersion for the parameters of high-power-laser facilities.

Value and role of surgical margins in transoral laser microsurgery of the larynx, literature review and clinical considerations.

Purpose: There is no agreement on the most appropriate post-operative pathway for the management of positive margins after laser cordectomy for early stage glottic tumours (T1-2N0M0). This literature review and meta-analysis aim to evaluate the post-operative treatment with the best oncological results among follow-up, radiotherapy (RT) and surgical second look. The parameters utilized were incidence of recurrence, overall (OS), disease-specific (DSS) and disease-free (DFS) survival and larynx preservation (LP).

Synthesis, bioevaluation and docking studies of some 2-phenyl-1H-benzimidazole derivatives as anthelminthic agents against the nematode Teladorsagia circumcincta.

Gastrointestinal nematode infections are the main diseases in herds of small ruminants. Resistance to the main established drugs has become a worldwide problem. The purpose of this study is to obtain and evaluate the in vitro ovicidal and larvicidal activity of some 2-phenylbenzimidazole derivatives on susceptible and resistant strains of Teladorsagia circumcincta.

Calcified cerebral emboli: Incidence and implications.

Introduction: Calcified cerebral emboli are an increasingly recognized cause of ischaemic stroke, although recognition amongst general radiologists and clinicians can be limited. Recent literature suggests that calcified cerebral emboli are likely more common than originally thought. This study aims to define the prevalence of calcified cerebral emboli as the most likely aetiology within a cohort of confirmed cases of acute stroke, as well as compare and contrast these cases with cases of 'incidental' intracranial calcification.

Dynamic model of target charging by short laser pulse interactions.

A model providing an accurate estimate of the charge accumulation on the surface of a metallic target irradiated by a high-intensity laser pulse of fs-ps duration is proposed. The model is confirmed by detailed comparisons with specially designed experiments. Such a model is useful for understanding the electromagnetic pulse emission and the quasistatic magnetic field generation in laser-plasma interaction experiments.

Physics of giant electromagnetic pulse generation in short-pulse laser experiments.

In this paper we describe the physical processes that lead to the generation of giant electromagnetic pulses (GEMPs) at powerful laser facilities. Our study is based on experimental measurements of both the charging of a solid target irradiated by an ultra-short, ultra-intense laser and the detection of the electromagnetic emission in the GHz domain. An unambiguous correlation between the neutralization current in the target holder and the electromagnetic emission shows that the source of the GEMP is the remaining positive charge inside the target after the escape of fast electrons accelerated by the ultra-intense laser.

Familiarity and face emotion recognition in patients with schizophrenia.

Objective: To assess the emotion recognition in familiar and unknown faces in a sample of schizophrenic patients and healthy controls.

Methods: Face emotion recognition of 18 outpatients diagnosed with schizophrenia (DSM-IVTR) and 18 healthy volunteers was assessed with two Emotion Recognition Tasks using familiar faces and unknown faces. Each subject was accompanied by 4 familiar people (parents, siblings or friends), which were photographed by expressing the 6 Ekman's basic emotions.

Correlation of CT findings remote from prime area of interest: a multitrauma study.

Background: Multitrauma patients represent a difficult cohort of patients from a diagnostic standpoint. Current trauma recommendations do not advise whole-body computed tomography (CT) in hemodynamically stable patients.

Importance of the irradiation timing within a chemoradiotherapy sequence including cisplatin and 5-FU-folinic acid. Experimental results.

The objective of the present in vitro study was to determine an optimal timing of the irradiation in the combination cisplatin (CDDP) and 5-fluorouracil-folinic-acid (5-FU-FA) allowing a maximal cytotoxic effect on a human cell line derived from a head and neck carcinoma (CAL 27 cells). The various tested chemoradiotherapy sequences were applied in parallel to human keratinocytes in culture (SVK 14 cells). This was done in order to define the best sequence allowing the achievement of an optimal selectivity of the cytotoxic effects.
