Effect of Curing Agent on the Compressive Behavior at Elevated Test Temperature of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Composites.

The aim of the underlying research is to understand the effect of elevated test temperatures on the mechanical properties of carbon fiber-reinforced laminates based on three different hardeners. A high-temperature stable adhesive was developed for the end tabs of the specimen. Bifunctional bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA) epoxy cured with triethylenetetramine (TETA), isophorone diamine (IPDA), and 4,4'-diaminodiphenylsulfone (DDS) were cured and tested in a Celanese compressive test up to 250 °C.

Informed management of American black bears () requires knowledge of the distribution and pathology of diseases affecting the species. Little information is available on pathogen prevalence from black bear populations in the Southwest, US, and it is unknown how these infections may influence black bear populations or disease transmission. We captured New Mexico black bears () during 2016-17 as part of a long-term monitoring project and opportunistically collected 36 blood samples from 12 female and 17 male black bears.

Copper and Nickel Coating of Carbon Fiber for Thermally and Electrically Conductive Fiber Reinforced Composites.

In this paper, the thermal and electrical conductivity and mechanical properties of fiber reinforced composites produced from nickel- and copper-coated carbon fibers compared to uncoated fibers are presented. The carbon fibers were processed by our prepreg line and cured to laminates. In the fiber direction, the thermal conductivity doubled from ~3 W/mK for the uncoated fiber, to ~6 W/mK for the nickel, and increased six times to ~20 W/mK for the copper-coated fiber for a fiber volume content of ~50 vol %.

Effect of Resin and Blocked/Unblocked Hardener Mixture on the Production of Epoxy Foams with CO Blocked Hardener in Batch Foaming Process.

The present study focuses on the processing and properties of epoxy foams by the use of CO blocked hardener N-aminoethylpiperazine (B-AEP) and different resins. Although some studies described the foaming with carbamates, little attention has been given to the interaction of resin properties (such as viscosity) on the foaming performance. Therefore, two resins, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) and epoxy novolac (EN), as well as their 50:50 blend, were foamed with B-AEP and unblocked/blocked AEP hardener mixtures in a batch foaming process.

Influence of Fiber Volume Content on Thermal Conductivity in Transverse and Fiber Direction of Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Epoxy Laminates.

Thermal conductivity is an important material property for thermo-mechanical calculations, as mechanical properties strongly depend on the temperature and heat distribution in the manufactured parts. Although several suggestions for approximation formulae have been made, existing experimental data are rare and are not comparable due to different measurement methods. In addition, scarcely has the thermal conductivity in both the fiber direction and transverse direction been studied.

Risk factors associated with complication following gastrectomy for gastric cancer: retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data based on the Clavien-Dindo system.

Background: Most studies about complication after gastric cancer surgery have been performed without consideration of the severity of each complication. The purposes of this study were to prospectively analyze all postgastrectomy complications according to severity using Clavien-Dindo classification and to identify risk factors related to postoperative complications.

Methods: Complication data were collected prospectively through weekly conferences with all gastric adenocarcinoma patients who underwent gastrectomy between March 2011 and February 2012 at Seoul National University Hospital.

Indeterminate cell histiocytosis is a rare cutaneous disease characterized by the presence of dendritic cells that lack Birbeck granules and immunophenotypically shares features of both Langerhans cells and macrophages. We describe a case of a 4-year-old African American boy affected by a disseminated, exclusively mucocutaneous form of indeterminate cell histiocytosis. The eruption was successfully treated with narrowband ultraviolet B.

Introduction: Laparoscopic colorectal resection is not common practice, despite its proven advantages. Hand-assisted laparoscopic colectomy (HALC) combines the advantages of a format laparoscopy while minimizing its limits.

Goals: A report of our experience in hand-assisted colorectal resections.

Early localized morphea mimicking an acquired port-wine stain.

Port-wine stains (PWS) and morphea are distinct conditions that are easily recognized and diagnosed in pediatric patients. Rarely, early localized morphea may mimic an acquired PWS. We present 4 such cases, in two of which the initial clinical impression of acquired PWS was thought to be confirmed by histopathology.
