The bioeconomy is considered one of the three main sectors with the greatest opportunities for the development of the circular economy in Brazil, who is one of the largest silk producers in the world; and sericulture is an agribusiness that contributes greatly to the bioeconomy in Brazil. Therefore, this research aimed to identify opportunities for creating value by internalizing flows in the production of silk cocoons by promoting a circular bioeconomy. To that end, a tool was used to assess the circularity of the referred system.

Hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (HSOS) is a hepatic vascular disease histologically characterized by edema, necrosis, detachment of endothelial cells in small sinusoidal hepatic and interlobular veins and intrahepatic congestion, which leads to portal hypertension and liver dysfunction. In the Western world, most HSOS cases are associated with myeloablative pretreatment in a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation setting. Here we report a case of a 54 years old female patient, otherwise healthy, with no history of alcoholic ingestion, who presented with jaundice and signs of portal hypertension, including ascites and bilateral pleural effusion.

We aimed to assess the correlation of IC-measured REE and RQ with skeletal muscle mass (SM), mortality, and REE values as estimated by Harris-Benedict, European guidelines (EG), and Brazilian guidelines-DITEN (BG) equations in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Methods: In this prospectively designed study, REE was measured in 126 male patients with liver cirrhosis by IC and predicted by Harris-Benedict, EG (35 kcal/kg current weight), and BG (30 kcal/kg current weight) guidelines.

This paper describes a new, efficient and versatile method for the sampling and preconcentration of PAH in environmental water matrices using special hybrid magnetic carbon nanotubes. These N-doped amphiphilic CNT can be easily dispersed in any aqueous matrix due to the N containing hydrophilic part and at the same time show high efficiency for the adsorption of different PAH contaminants due to the very hydrophobic surface. After adsorption, the CNT can be easily removed from the medium by a simple magnetic separation.

Performance and digestibility of growing sheep fed with açai seed meal-based diets.

This trial was conducted to assess the efficacy of açai seeds in the diet of sheep, specifically, to evaluate the intake, digestibility, and weight gain in sheep that are fed with diets containing four different mixtures of açai seeds and coastcross hay. Sixteen noncastrated male sheep with an average initial body weight of 22 kg were randomly assigned to one of four diet treatments using initial body weight as a covariate. The diets used coastcross hay as the basal roughage in a 60:40 roughage/concentrate ratio.

Fiber Bragg gratings with various chirp profiles made in etched tapers.

We have studied, both theoretically and experimentally, fiber Bragg gratings with a number of different chirp profiles. These chirp profiles can easily be achieved by a recently demonstrated technique involving a taper of desired profile etched into the cladding of a fiber. The performances of gratings with linear, quadratic, periodically modulated, and step-chirp profiles are analyzed numerically.

We present experimental results of complex grating structures fabricated with uniform phase masks by the moving fiber-scanning beam approach. Pure apodized gratings with side-mode-suppression levels in excess of 40 dB, self-apodized linearly chirped gratings, and phase shifted gratings with narrow-band transmission peaks have all been realized.
