Our current global Food System is facing extraordinary challenges in both size and severity, including a rise in unsustainable consumption behaviours, continued environmental degradation, growing food insecurity, and widening social inequalities. A Food System transformation is now both critically important and overwhelmingly complex, requiring nothing less than a complete overhaul of the entire value chain. Everyone is needed: Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with technological solutions, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with social innovations, researchers with novel methodologies, governments with food policy advancements, professionals with varying expertise, and last but not least, empowered and informed citizens with the ability and resources for better decision-making.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how the COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacted the ability of patients to receive iontophoresis treatment for hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating.
  • It is a retrospective analysis conducted in Romania that reviewed data from 111 patients treated between 2013 and 2023, revealing a complete drop in patient visits during the pandemic.
  • The study highlights that despite the debilitating effects of hyperhidrosis on quality of life, patients and their families often do not see it as a pressing health issue needing immediate treatment.

: The objective of the study is to analyze the impact of cardiovascular history on mortality in COVID-19 patients, hospitalized in the intensive care unit with indications for continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and subsequently mechanical ventilation, without oncological disease. : A retrospective observational study was carried out on a group of 108 critical COVID-19 patients. We compared demographic data, paraclinical and clinical parameters, days of hospitalization, and mortality rate between two groups of patients, one group with a history of cardiovascular disease (81 patients) and a group without a history of cardiovascular disease (27 patients).

Engineered reverse hairpin constructs containing a partial C-heptad repeat (CHR) sequence followed by a short loop and full-length N-heptad repeat (NHR) were previously shown to form trimers in solution and to be nanomolar inhibitors of HIV-1 Env mediated fusion. Their target is the in situ gp41 fusion intermediate, and they have similar potency to other previously reported NHR trimers. However, their design implies that the NHR is partially covered by CHR, which would be expected to limit potency.

: The objective of this study was to analyze the results of clinical trials regarding long-term antiviral therapies in chronic hepatitis with HBV to compare current therapeutic protocols and to analyze the results of preliminary studies with new antiviral therapies for HBV. : Clinical studies and meta-analyses from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Research Gate from 2011 to 2024 were analyzed on patients undergoing chronic antiviral therapy for HBV, and a retrospective observational study performed in our clinic on a group of 76 patients undergoing chronic therapy with entecavir was presented. Also, a summary of the results of preliminary studies with various innovative antiviral molecules for HBV was performed.

Aim: The aim of the present study is to assess some characteristics of blunt hepatic and splenic injuries in children, the non-operative management (NOM) procedures and efficiency, over a 5-year period in a tertiary hospital for children. We conducted a retrospective study on 32 patients with blunt liver and/or spleen injuries. Age, gender, mechanism of injury, hemoglobin and hematocrit levels, lenght of stay and bedrest, imaging diagnosis, hemostatics and transfusions, treatment, and discharge status were evaluated.

Over time, studies have shown the importance of determining serotonin levels to diagnose somatic and psychiatric disorders. There are theoretical premises and practical ways to achieve a subtle correlation between the existence of comorbid psychiatric disorders and somatic diseases caused by the changes observed in serotonin levels. The present study, classified as retrospective and quantitative, provides evidence for determining the serotonin levels in patients with diabetes and anxiety or depression.

Background: Up to 70% of people with multiple sclerosis (MS) experience cognitive impairment. Some remain cognitively intact despite advanced disease. Cognitive reserve (CR) theory postulates that individuals with higher levels of intellectual enrichment can tolerate more pathology than others before exhibiting cognitive impairment.

In this chapter, we introduce a completely intraoperative procedure for obtaining a patient-derived biomaterial in cell therapy and tissue engineering applications. An automated device for processing human peripheral-blood ensures a reproducible method for retrieving the patient's cellular-rich as well as cellular-poor plasma. By substituting calcium for animal-derived thrombin, we engineer a completely autologous hydrogel that eliminates the risk of disease transmission and lowers FDA regulation hurdles.

Unlabelled: A wide range of pharmaceutical substances can induce side-effects expressed as cardiovascular changes or events, adding to other risk factors or worsening preexisting cardiovascular diseases.

Aim: Continuous study focused on iatrogenic conditions representing cardiovascular risk factors.

Methods: We developed a descriptive study of patients admitted to the Iasi Vth Internal Medicine and Geriatrics-Gerontology Clinic between 1998-2013, focusing on iatrogenic conditions representing cardiovascular risk factors.

Purpose: Accurate staging of Hodgkin's disease is essential for choosing appropriate therapy.

Patients And Methods: A case of a 13-year-old boy with a history of Hodgkin's disease and negative iliac crest biopsies is presented.

Results: MRI-guided biopsy led to the accurate diagnosis of bone marrow involvement and a change in patient management.

The CT findings of a patient with relapsing polychondritis involving the larynx, tracheobronchial tree, and nasal cartilage are described. In the proper clinical setting, a characteristic constellation of findings when noted on CT can aid in differentiating this rare inflammatory disease from other causes of airway compromise. CT is the most useful imaging modality, because cartilage and soft tissue components are well visualized.

Based on previous data, this research deals with the study of cellular ultrastructure of renal tissue (cortical and medullary) in conditions of preservation through a continuous hypothermic pulsatile perfusion, using a solution that substitutes plasma as the perfusate. This experiment was done on isolated dog kidneys perfused with a specialized perfusion machine. The results clearly show that with this method of renal preservation, no major lesions or irreversible modifications of the nephrons occur within 12 hours, offering the organ posttransplanting compatibility.

[Level of functional mitochondrial activity of the preserved kidney].

Rev Chir Oncol Radiol O R L Oftalmol Stomatol Chir

April 1981

The authors investigated the activity of mitochondria from cells of the cortical and of the medullar structures of the dog kidney perfused in pulsatile flow and under hypothermia for a duration of 12 hours, as well as for 24 hours. The swelling-contraction process was determined, and the thiol (T-SH) groups in mitochondrial suspensions. The kinetics of the mitochondrial swelling showed moderate reduction of the activity, differentiated in the medullary and in the cortical areas, and depending on the duration of the perfusion.

The study of IgA, IgG and IgM immunoglobulins obtained from tissues of prostate adenoma and adenocarcinoma, as well as of homogenates by electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels, revealed the presence, the amount and the different conformation of protein fractions in the adenoma and in the adenocarcinoma. Inflammatory processes do not play a significant role. Comparative measures of nucleic acids and of SH groups suggest the existence of molecular mechanisms interpreted in the light of ageing processes.

[Serum cholinesterase in anesthesia and surgical shock].

Rev Chir Oncol Radiol O R L Oftalmol Stomatol Chir

January 1976

The evaluation of the serum cholinesterase activity in various experimental conditions (anesthesized dogs, operated on or not, in shock intoxicated with carbon tetrachloride) indicated various degrees of inhibition of this enzyme, peaking in imbalances that developed during shock or in the carbon tetrachloride intoxication of the animals.
