The agouti (Dasyprocta prymnolopha) is a medium-sized, wild rodent that is highly rustic and docile. Its size and ease of management make it a viable candidate for an alternative animal model to traditional murine subjects. However, data on the epidermal strata of agoutis are lacking, with significant uncertainties persisting regarding their skin's characterization.

The broad application of 1-indazoles has prompted the development of several approaches for the synthesis of such compounds, including metal-free, palladium-, or copper-promoted intramolecular -arylation of in situ-generated or isolated -haloarylhydrazones. Such methods mainly start from -bromo derivatives due to the better yield observed when compared to those obtained from -chloroarylhydrazones. However, the -chloroarylaldehydes and -chloroarylketones used to prepare the arylhydrazones are more commercially available and less expensive than brominated analogs.

The compound -2-cyano-,3-diphenylacrylamide (JMPR-01) was structurally developed using bioisosteric modifications of a hybrid prototype as formed from fragments of indomethacin and paracetamol. Initially, in vitro assays were performed to determine cell viability (in macrophage cultures), and its ability to modulate the synthesis of nitrite and cytokines (IL-1β and TNFα) in non-cytotoxic concentrations. In vivo, anti-inflammatory activity was explored using the CFA-induced paw edema and zymosan-induced peritonitis models.

Background: Schistosomiasis is a persistent public health problem in Brazil. Regardless advances in diagnosis and mass treatment, schistosomiasis has a severe impact on morbimortality in the country and remains a neglected tropical disease. Herein, we assessed the basic and associated causes of schistosomiasis-related deaths and the temporal and spatial patterns of mortality from the disease in Brazil between 1999 and 2018.

Objective: To estimate the effect of being a beneficiary of the Bolsa Família Program (BFP) in the vaccination of children aged 13 to 35 months.

Methods: Our study was based on all birth records of residents of Ribeirão Preto (SP) and probabilistic sampling with 1/3 of the births of residents of São Luís (MA), selecting low-income children, born in 2010, belonging to the cohorts Brazilian Ribeirão Preto and São Luís Birth Cohort Studies and eligible for the Bolsa Família program. The information of Cadastro Único (CadÚnico - Single Registry) was used to categorize the receipt of benefit from the BFP (yes or no).

Visceral leishmaniasis is a reemerging neglected tropical disease with limitations for its diagnosis, including low concentration of antibodies in the serum of asymptomatic patients and cross-reactions. In this context, this work proposes an electrochemical immunosensor for the diagnosis of visceral leishmaniasis in a more sensitive way that is capable of avoiding cross-reaction with Chagas disease (CD). Crude antigens tested in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were methodologically standardized to best engage to the sensor.

Introduction: Mammography is the main screening test for early detection of breast cancer; however, its access is not equal for all women in Brazil. The objective of this study was to analyze the factors associated with not having this examination done in a period of less than two years in Brazil and according to macro-region, considering sociodemographic characteristics, health conditions, lifestyle, and the use of health services.

Method: Cross-sectional study using data from the National Health Survey in Brazil (Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde - PNS).
