Translation of the REMEDI[e]S (Review of potentially inappropriate MEDIcation pr[e]scribing in Seniors) explicit criteria into seminatural language for use in prescription support systems: A multidisciplinary consensus.

Background: By recovering data in an ordered manner and at the right time, clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) are designed to help healthcare professionals make decisions that improve patient care.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to translate the REMEDI[e]s tool's explicit criteria, France's first reference list of potentially inappropriate drugs for the elderly, into seminatural language, in order to implement these criteria as alert rules and then enable their computer coding in a CDSS.

Methods: This work was carried out at Lille University Hospital by a team of clinical pharmacists with expertise in the use of pharmaceutical decision support systems, in collaboration with the authors of the REMEDI[e]s tool.

Evaluating the Implementation of Integrated Proactive Supportive Care Pathways in Oncology: Master Protocol for a Cohort Study.

Background: Supportive care (SC) refers to the prevention and management of complications of cancer and its treatment. While it has long been recognized as an important cancer care delivery component, a high proportion of patients face unaddressed SC needs, calling for innovative approaches to deliver SC.

Objective: The objective of this master protocol is to evaluate the implementation of different integrated proactive SC pathways across the cancer care continuum in our institution (Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France).

An effort to improve the collection of patient-generated data: readability and understandability of patient-reported outcomes measures in a survivorship cohort.

Purpose: In this study, we evaluated readability and understandability of nine French-language Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) that are currently used in a contemporary longitudinal cohort of breast cancer survivors as part of an effort to improve equity in cancer care and research.

Methods: Readability of PROMs was assessed using the Flesh Reading Ease Score (FRES), the Gunning's Fog Index (FOG), and the FRY graphics. Readability was considered ideal if mean score ≤ 6th-grade level and acceptable if between 6th and 8th grade.

Why Shot Noise Does Not Generally Detect Pairing in Mesoscopic Superconducting Tunnel Junctions.

The shot noise in tunneling experiments reflects the Poissonian nature of the tunneling process. The shot-noise power is proportional to both the magnitude of the current and the effective charge of the carrier. Shot-noise spectroscopy thus enables us, in principle, to determine the effective charge q of the charge carriers of that tunnel.

Preference-based measures (PBM) for health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are essential in assessing the cost-utility of different treatment options. The preference-based Parkinson's disease Index (PB-PDI) is being developed for people with Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this study was to refine the PB-PDI through cognitive interviews with people with PD.

Implementing a PROACTive Care Pathway to Empower and Support Survivors of Breast Cancer.

Purpose: Optimal comprehensive survivorship care is insufficiently delivered. To increase patient empowerment and maximize the uptake of multidisciplinary supportive care strategies to serve all survivorship needs, we implemented a proactive survivorship care pathway for patients with early breast cancer at the end of primary treatment phase.

Methods: Pathway components included (1) a personalized survivorship care plan (SCP), (2) face-to-face survivorship education seminars and personalized consultation for supportive care referrals (Transition Day), (3) a mobile app delivering personalized education and self-management advice, and (4) decision aids for physicians focused on supportive care needs.

Inhaled mRNA therapy for treatment of cystic fibrosis: Interim results of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 1/2 clinical study.

Background: MRT5005, a codon-optimized CFTR mRNA, delivered by aerosol in lipid nanoparticles, was designed as a genotype-agnostic treatment for CF lung disease.

Methods: This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 1/2 study performed in the US. Adults with 2 severe class I and/or II CFTR mutations and baseline ppFEV1 values between 50 and 90% were randomized 3:1 (MRT5005: placebo).

Intimate partner violence against ever-partnered women in Europe: Prevalence and associated factors-Results from the violence against women EU-wide survey.

Study Questions: To describe the prevalence of physical, sexual, and psychological intimate partner violence (IPV) against women in the European Union (EU) and to search for their determinants among demographic, socioeconomic, health-related factors, and partner characteristics.

Methods: Observational study. Data from the violence against women survey, the first study conducted in the EU, which simultaneously measured all dimensions of IPV and many characteristics.

[Development of a methodological guide on the implementation of a pharmaceutical decision support system: Feedback from a French university hospital].

Objective: Develop a methodological guide on the implementation of a PDSS (pharmaceutical decision support system).

Method: Observational study, retrospective conducted at Lille University Hospital from May 2017 to December 2020, corresponding to the period of implementation and then use of the software. The different phases of the project are described as well as the methodology at each stage.

Implementation of less-invasive surfactant administration in a Canadian neonatal intensive care unit.

Background: Less-invasive surfactant administration (LISA) is a recent technique used extensively in Europe but rarely used in North America. The aim of this study was to describe our experience following LISA implementation using poractant in a Canadian neonatal intensive care (NICU).

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted from June 2017 to April 2021 of LISA procedures in preterm infants.

The clinical progress of mRNA vaccines and immunotherapies.

The emergency use authorizations (EUAs) of two mRNA-based severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)-2 vaccines approximately 11 months after publication of the viral sequence highlights the transformative potential of this nucleic acid technology. Most clinical applications of mRNA to date have focused on vaccines for infectious disease and cancer for which low doses, low protein expression and local delivery can be effective because of the inherent immunostimulatory properties of some mRNA species and formulations. In addition, work on mRNA-encoded protein or cellular immunotherapies has also begun, for which minimal immune stimulation, high protein expression in target cells and tissues, and the need for repeated administration have led to additional manufacturing and formulation challenges for clinical translation.

Autism Spectrum Disorder in Children Is Not Associated With Abnormal Autonomic Nervous System Function: Hypothesis and Theory.

The quest to understand the pathophysiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has led to extensive literature that purports to provide evidence for autonomic dysfunction based on heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV), in particular respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA), a measure of parasympathetic functioning. Many studies conclude that autism is associated with vagal withdrawal and sympathetic hyperactivation based on HRV and electrodermal analyses. We will argue that a critical analysis of the data leads to the hypothesis that autonomic nervous system dysfunction is not a dominant feature of autism.

A phase III randomized trial of weight loss to reduce cancer-related fatigue among overweight and obese breast cancer patients: MEDEA Study design.

Background: Elevated body mass index (BMI) represents a risk factor for cancer-related fatigue (CRF). Weight loss interventions are feasible and safe in cancer survivors, leading to improved cardio-metabolic and quality of life (QOL) outcomes and modulating inflammatory biomarkers. Randomized data are lacking showing that a lifestyle intervention aimed at weight loss, combining improved diet, exercise, and motivational counseling, reduces CRF.

Long-term survival of the Lefèvre retentive cup: 12-year follow-up analysis of 466 consecutive cases.

Introduction: The Lefèvre retentive cup is a salvage solution for total hip replacement at high risk of dislocation. Only a few studies have reported the medium or long-term survival; most often, only a small number of patients were included in these studies. This led us to conduct a retrospective analysis of a large population to determine: 1) the 10-year survival rate after primary or revision arthroplasty, 2) the complication rate.

Impact of aerosols on liver xenobiotic metabolism: A comparison of two methods of exposure.

Assessment of aerosols effects on liver CYP function generally involves aqueous fractions (AF). Although easy and efficient, this method has not been optimized recently or comparatively assessed against other aerosol exposure methods. Here, we comparatively evaluated the effects of the AFs of cigarette smoke (CS) and Tobacco Heating System (THS) aerosols on CYP activity in liver spheroids.

Unraveling the Surface Reactivity of Pristine and Ti-Doped Hematite with Water.

Water adsorption and dissociation on undoped and Ti-doped hematite thin films were investigated using near-ambient pressure photoemission and DFT calculations. A fine understanding of doping effects is of prime importance in the framework of photoanode efficiency in aqueous conditions. By comparison to pure FeO surface, the Ti(2%)-FeO surface shows a lower hydroxylation level.

Safety and Efficacy of Mitapivat in Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency.

Background: Pyruvate kinase deficiency is caused by mutations in and leads to congenital hemolytic anemia. Mitapivat is an oral, small-molecule allosteric activator of pyruvate kinase in red cells.

Methods: In this uncontrolled, phase 2 study, we evaluated the safety and efficacy of mitapivat in 52 adults with pyruvate kinase deficiency who were not receiving red-cell transfusions.

Emerging Patterns in HIV-1 gp120 Variable Domains in Anatomical Tissues in the Absence of a Plasma Viral Load.

The HIV envelope protein contains five hypervariable domains (V1-V5) that are fundamental for cell entry. We contrasted modifications in the variable domains derived from a panel of 24 tissues from 7 subjects with no measurable plasma viral load (NPVL) to variable domains from 76 tissues from 15 subjects who had a detectable plasma viral load (PVL) at death. NPVL subject's V1 and V2 domains were usually highly length variable, whereas length variation in PVL sequences was more conserved.

Phylogenetic Methods Inconsistently Predict the Direction of HIV Transmission Among Heterosexual Pairs in the HPTN 052 Cohort.

Background: We evaluated use of phylogenetic methods to predict the direction of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission.

Methods: For 33 pairs of HIV-infected patients (hereafter, "index patients") and their partners who acquired genetically linked HIV infection during the study, samples were collected from partners and index patients close to the time when the partner seroconverted (hereafter, "SC samples"); for 31 pairs, samples collected from the index patient at an earlier time point (hereafter, "early index samples") were also available. Phylogenies were inferred using env next-generation sequences (1 tree per pair/subtype).

Cross-Correlation between Strain, Ferroelectricity, and Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial Multiferroic CoFeO/BaTiO Heterostructures.

Multiferroic biphase systems with robust ferromagnetic and ferroelectric response at room temperature would be ideally suitable for voltage-controlled nonvolatile memories. Understanding the role of strain and charges at interfaces is central for an accurate control of the ferroelectricity as well as of the ferromagnetism. In this paper, we probe the relationship between the strain and the ferromagnetic/ferroelectric properties in the layered CoFeO/BaTiO (CFO/BTO) model system.

Fast X-ray reflectivity measurements using an X-ray pixel area detector at the DiffAbs beamline, Synchrotron SOLEIL.

This paper describes a method for rapid measurements of the specular X-ray reflectivity signal using an area detector and a monochromatic, well collimated X-ray beam (divergence below 0.01°), combined with a continuous data acquisition mode during the angular movements of the sample and detector. In addition to the total integrated (and background-corrected) reflectivity signal, this approach yields a three-dimensional mapping of the reciprocal space in the vicinity of its origin.
