Article Synopsis
  • The agri-food industry creates a lot of waste, and lychee fruit, especially its peel, pulp, and seeds, has bioactive compounds that can help reduce this waste.
  • This study tested the impact of adding different amounts of lychee peel flour to a high-carbohydrate diet in zebrafish, revealing that while growth wasn't affected, a 6% supplement improved glucose and triglyceride levels.
  • The findings indicated that this dietary addition boosted antioxidant enzyme activities and reduced oxidative stress markers, suggesting that lychee peel flour could enhance lipid metabolism and overall health in zebrafish.

Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor inhibitor that stimulates pituitary gonadotropins. It is usually associated with synthetic GnRHa to promote spawning in fish. However, the route of administration used, intramuscular injection, can be quite stressful.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of visual isolation and the influence of oxytocin on the aggressive behaviour of male Betta splendens and produce an ethogram for analyses. In the first stage, the fish (n = 6) were kept for 60 days in a recirculation system, maintaining visual contact. After this period, the mirror test was applied.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the impact of obesity in adult zebrafish on their reproductive potential and the health of their offspring.
  • Adult zebrafish were divided into a control group with a balanced diet and a diet-induced obesity (DIO) group overfed for 8 weeks, allowing researchers to assess changes in body weight, reproductive parameters, and offspring health.
  • Results showed that DIO zebrafish exhibited significant obesity-related health issues, and their offspring faced high mortality rates and deformities, indicating that adult obesity negatively affects future generations.

Ethanol consumption is correlated with different neurobiological and behavioral impairments. Acute and chronic exposure to this drug is associated with alterations in the regulation of the mesolimbic dopaminergic system as well as with transcriptional modulation of other receptors in the central nervous system and can unleash seeking behavior or behavioral adaptations and phenotypes such as loss of control, dependence and tolerance. In the present work, we characterized the chronological effects of acute and chronic intermittent exposure to ethanol (1% v/v) in an adult zebrafish population (Danio rerio).
