The objective of the study was to evaluate behavioral observation procedures and tests to characterize sows' behavior for their suitability for free farrowing systems. Nest building activity (NB), lying-down behavior (LDB), and position after lying down (PLD) were assessed. Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPCs) have recently been described in Chicago, IL, especially among residents of long-term acute care hospitals (LTACHs). These patients are frequently transferred to local Chicago hospitals for higher acuity of medical care, and rapid detection and isolation of KPC-colonized LTACH residents may interrupt the introduction of KPCs into acute care hospitals. Background: Although enteric-coated mycophenolate sodium (EC-MPS) was developed to reduce gastrointestinal (GI) side effects in kidney transplantation, a multicenter clinical trial of patients undergoing de novo renal transplantation found that efficacy failure and adverse GI event rates for EC-MPS were comparable with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF). A common strategy to mitigate mycophenolic acid-related GI adverse events includes dose manipulations such as split dosing, dose reduction, and discontinuation. Several studies have demonstrated that dose alterations with MMF are associated with poorer graft outcomes.

Background: There is little information on the role of bisphosphonates and bone mineral density (BMD) measurements for the follow-up and management of bone loss and fractures in long-term kidney transplant recipients.
