Glioblastoma remains a significant therapeutic challenge, warranting further investigation of novel therapies. We describe an immunotherapeutic strategy to treat glioblastoma based on adoptive transfer of genetically modified T-lymphocytes (T cells) redirected to kill EGFRvIII expressing gliomas. We constructed a chimeric immune receptor (CIR) specific to EGFRvIII, (MR1-zeta).

But it is subsequently unequivocally identified by fluorescence in situ hybridization technique using various whole chromosome painting probes.

Due to their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties, as well as their action on the hematopoietic system and the calcium phosphate turnover, corticosteroids are widely employed in the treatment of many diseases. However, the therapeutic use of these compounds is frequently associated with unwanted, mainly type A, effects that are directly dependent on the wide spectrum of their pharmacological activities. In this study these side effects are critically reviewed and classified on the basis of the organs and systems involved.

[Fever caused by penicillin. Description of a clinical case].

A case of drug-provoked fever is described in a scleroderma patient on penicillamine. The drug was withdrawn because of the severity and recurrence of the fever. Both our personal experience and a review of the literature, show this side effect to be markedly less frequent than reported by German researchers.

All radionuclide findings for Total Diet and reactor samples were either in Action Range I or low in Range II of the surveillance and control recommendations given by the Federal Radiation Council. The only long-range trend noted was a continuation of the general decline in dietary intake of 90Sr since 1961.

Imipenem/cilastatin in the treatment of severe hospital infections.

Imipenem/cilastatin as a single agent or in combination with amikacin was used as empirical treatment of severe hospital infections. Twenty-five patients were evaluable for efficacy and the overall response rate was 62% with imipenem/cilastatin alone and 80% with imipenem/cilastatin in combination with amikacin. The highest response rate was obtained in urinary tract infection (75%) and in pneumonia (70%) and the lowest response rate (50%) was observed in bacteremia of unknown origin and in skin and soft tissue infections.

Oesophageal motor activity in rheumatoid arthritis: a clinical and manometric study.

Oesophageal motor function was clinically and manometrically investigated by means of a low-compliance system in 24 nonselected rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 15 healthy controls. Dysphagia was referred by 37.5% of RA patients.

Treatment of infections by staphylococci and other gram-positive bacteria with teicoplanin: an open study.

Teicoplanin, 200-400 mg (3-6 mg/kg) daily iv or im, was used to treat 71 episodes of infection. The average duration of treatment was 22 days. The 64 evaluable episodes comprised 24 skin/soft tissue, 20 osteoarticular, ten urinary tract and one ventriculo-atrial shunt infections; one case of primary bacteraemia, three of endocarditis, two of pneumonia and three of pleural empyema.

Samples from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's total-diet, market-basket program, samples of imported foods, and samples collected near nuclear power plants were analyzed for radionuclides.

Determination of radium-228 in foods and water.

A procedure was developed for the rapid determination of 228Ra by measuring its decay product 228Ac. The method is applicable to a variety of types of samples such as food and water. Food samples can be prepared by dry- or wet-ashing techniques.

Quantitative determination of I-131, Cs-137, and Ba-140 in milk: collaborative studies.

The official method for Cs-137 in milk by gamma-ray spectroscopy was extended to include I-131 and Ba-140. A collaborative study was performed on this method applied to I-131 concentration in cow's milk; the original collaborative study of the method including all 3 nuclides was reviewed. In the I-131 study, 1 aliquot of a milk sample containing 82 pCi/L was sent to each of 60 laboratories for triplicate analyses.
