Insights Into the Local Heating Effects in Triple-Cation Mixed-Halide Perovskite Cells: Charge Dynamics, Coherent Phonons, Anion Segregation.

The behavior of triple-cation mixed halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) under ultrashort laser pulse irradiation at varying fluences is investigated, with a focus on local heating effects observed in femtosecond transient absorption (TA) studies. The carrier cooling time constant is found to increase from 230 fs at 2 µJ cm⁻ to 1.3 ps at 2 mJ cm⁻ while the charge population decay accelerates from tens of nanoseconds to the picosecond range within the same fluence range.

High resolution Brillouin spectroscopy of the surface acoustic waves in SbTe van der Waals single crystals.

High-resolution Brillouin spectroscopy was employed to investigate the anisotropy in surface wave velocities within a bulk single crystal of SbTe, a well-known layered van der Waals material. By leveraging the bulk elastic constants derived from various simulation methods, we were able to theoretically calculate the distribution of surface acoustic phonon velocities on the cleavage plane of the material. Upon analyzing multiple simulation results, it became evident that the most significant discrepancies arose in the calculations of the elastic constant c, with values ranging from 48 to 98 GPa.

Modifiable risk factors for permanent pacemaker after transcatheter aortic valve implantation: CONDUCT registry.

Objective: The onset of new conduction abnormalities requiring permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is still a relevant adverse event. The main objective of this registry was to identify modifiable procedural risk factors for an improved outcome (lower rate of PPI) after TAVI in patients at high risk of PPI.

Methods: Patients from four European centres receiving a balloon-expandable TAVI (Edwards SAPIEN 3/3 Ultra) and considered at high risk of PPI (pre-existing conduction disturbance, heavily calcified left ventricular outflow tract or short membranous septum) were prospectively enrolled into registry.

The problem of graphene protection of Ge surfaces against oxidation is investigated. Raman, X-Ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements of graphene epitaxially grown on Ge(001)/Si(001) substrates are presented. It is shown that the penetration of water vapor through graphene defects on Gr/Ge(001)/Si(001) samples leads to the oxidation of germanium, forming GeO.

Non-Bacterial Thrombotic Endocarditis: A Presentation of COVID-19.

Unlabelled: The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a newly emergent pathogen first identified in Wuhan, China, and responsible for the COVID-19 global pandemic. In this case report we describe a manifestation of non-bacterial thrombotic endocarditis with continuous peripheral embolization in a COVID-19-positive patient. The patient responded well to high-dose LMWH treatment with cessation of the embolic process.

The influence of thermal stress on the physical and technical activities of soccer players: lessons from the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The present study attempts to assess changes in soccer players' physical and technical activity profiles due to thermal stress, measured with the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), in training centres and during matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. The study also verifies the theoretical models of soccer players' physiological parameters. The study sample consisted of 945 observations of 340 players of national teams taking part in the World Cup in Russia.

Risk factors for permanent pacemaker implantation in patients receiving a balloon-expandable transcatheter aortic valve prosthesis.

Permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) is a widely recognized complication associated with TAVI (incidence up to 20%). Smaller registries have identified several variables associated with PPI. The objective was to validate patient- and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI)-related procedural variables associated with PPI.

Growth of highly oriented MoSvia an intercalation process in the graphene/SiC(0001) system.

A method of growing highly oriented MoS is presented. First, a Mo film is deposited on a graphene/SiC(0001) substrate and the subsequent annealing of it at 750 °C leads to intercalation of Mo underneath the graphene layer, which is confirmed by secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) measurements. Formation of highly oriented MoS layers is then achieved by sulfurization of the graphene/Mo/SiC system using HS gas.

Objectives: The presence of a stiff guidewire in the apex of the left ventricle (LV) is a known risk factor for LV perforation. Our goal was to minimize the risk of LV rupture during transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) by omitting the interaction between the stiff guidewire and the LV apex using a modified procedure.

Methods: A TAVI protocol designed to allow minimal interaction between a stiff guidewire and the LV was developed in Linköping University Hospital in Sweden.

Destructive role of oxygen in growth of molybdenum disulfide determined by secondary ion mass spectrometry.

The application of secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) in investigation and comparison of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) films grown on SiO2, Al2O3 and BN substrates is presented. SIMS measurements of the MoS2/substrate interface reveals oxygen out-diffusion from the substrates containing oxygen and the formation of an amorphous MoOS layer in addition to MoS2. The total area of MoS2 domains covering the substrate is directly related to the type of substrate.

Bacterial colonization patterns in preterm infants differ from those of their term counterparts due to maternal microbial diversity, delivery mode, feeding methods, antibiotic use, and exposure to commensal microbiota and pathogens in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Early gut microbiome dysbiosis predisposes neonates to necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a devastating intestinal disease with high morbidity and mortality. Though mechanisms of NEC pathogenesis are not fully understood, the microbiome is a promising therapy target for prevention and treatment.

Surgical management of outflow tract obstruction after transapical mitral valve implantation.

Left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction due to systolic anterior motion of the anterior mitral valve leaflet (AML) is a known complication after mitral valve repair or transfemoral/transapical mitral valve implantation (TMVI). We present a patient with a previous mitral valve repair who developed LVOT obstruction after TMVI in whom the AML was surgically resected using a transaortic approach.

Reliability and validity of food portion size estimation from images using manual flexible digital virtual meshes.

Objective: The eButton takes frontal images at 4s intervals throughout the day. A three-dimensional manually administered wire mesh procedure has been developed to quantify portion sizes from the two-dimensional images. The present paper reports a test of the inter-rater reliability and validity of use of the wire mesh procedure.

Background: Vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet because they help prevent several chronic diseases. Mothers of preschoolers reported difficulty getting their young children to eat vegetables, and many did not know how to cook child-pleasing recipes.

Heat stress is one of the environmental factors influencing the health of individuals and the wider population. There is a large body of research to document significant increases in mortality and morbidity during heat waves all over the world. This paper presents key results of research dealing with heat-related mortality (HRM) in various cities in Poland which cover about 25% of the country's population.

Parents' Qualitative Perspectives on Child Asking for Fruit and Vegetables.

Children can influence the foods available at home, but some ways of approaching a parent may be better than others; and the best way may vary by type of parent. This study explored how parents with different parenting styles would best receive their 10 to 14 years old child asking for fruits and vegetables (FV). An online parenting style questionnaire was completed and follow-up qualitative telephone interviews assessed home food rules, child influence on home food availability, parents' preferences for being asked for food, and common barriers and reactions to their child's FV requests.

Highly selective covalent organic functionalization of epitaxial graphene.

Graphene functionalization with organics is expected to be an important step for the development of graphene-based materials with tailored electronic properties. However, its high chemical inertness makes difficult a controlled and selective covalent functionalization, and most of the works performed up to the date report electrostatic molecular adsorption or unruly functionalization. We show hereafter a mechanism for promoting highly specific covalent bonding of any amino-terminated molecule and a description of the operating processes.

An educational video game for nutrition of young people: Theory and design.

Background: Playing (DIAB) and (NANO) epic video game adventures, increased fruit and vegetable consumption among a multi-ethnic sample of 10-12 year old children during pilot testing. Key elements of both games were educational mini-games embedded in the overall game that promoted knowledge acquisition regarding diet, physical activity and energy balance. 95-100% of participants demonstrated mastery of these mini-games suggesting knowledge acquisition.

Can predilatation in transcatheter aortic valve implantation be omitted? - a prospective randomized study.

Background: The use of a balloon expandable stent valve includes balloon predilatation of the aortic stenosis before valve deployment. The aim of the study was to see whether or not balloon predilatation is necessary in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI).

Methods: Sixty consecutive TAVI patients were randomized to the standard procedure or to a protocol where balloon predilatation was omitted.
