In this article, we focus on kynurenic acid metabolism in neuropsychiatric disorders and the biochemical processes involved in memory and cognitive impairment, followed by different approaches in the fight against dementia. Kynurenic acid-a biochemical part of L-tryptophan catabolism-is synthesized from L-kynurenine by kynurenine aminotransferases. Experimental pharmacological studies have shown that elevated levels of kynurenic acid in the brain are associated with impaired learning and that lowering kynurenic acid levels can improve these symptoms.

Traumatic asphyxia is a rare syndrome caused by blunt thoracoabdominal trauma and characterized by cyanosis, edema, and subconjunctival and petechial hemorrhage on the face, neck, upper extremities, and the upper parts of the thorax. Traumatic asphyxia is usually diagnosed by history and inspection; however, the patient should be monitored more closely due to probable complications of thoracoabdominal injuries. Hemolacria: case report.

Hemolacria is a very rare entity which literally means "bloody tears". Conjunctivitis, capillary hemangioma, conjunctival telangiectasia, trauma, retrograde epistaxis and nasal and paranasal neoplasms may play a role in its etiology. In our case report, a 11-year-old female patient who presented with the complaint of bilateral epistaxis accompanied by bloody tears that had been present for 2 years and whose endoscopic examination revealed hyperemia and increased vascularity in the nasal cavity mucosa was discussed together with a review of the literature.
