Background: Germ cell tumors (GCTs) represent a diverse group of rare neoplasms that vary in location, histology, and clinical presentation. This study focuses on the clinical outcomes and survival rates of children and adolescents treated with the bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin (BEP) protocol.
Methods: This observational study evaluated children under 18 years diagnosed with testicular germ cell tumors and treated with the BEP protocol from January 2008 to December 2018.
We observed a newborn boy with urorectal septum malformation sequence. Anomalies of the genitalia and rectum were present. He expired on the first day of life, due to severe lung hypoplasia.

Comprehensive understanding regarding effect of NT-proBNP guided care on patient-reported quality of life (QOL) remains unknown.
Methods: One hundred fifty-one subjects with HF due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction were randomized to either SOC HF management or care with a goal to reduce NT-proBNP values ≤1000 pg/mL.
Aims: We sought to determine if heart failure (HF) care with a goal to lower N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) concentrations, compared with standard of care (SOC) management, is associated with improvement in echocardiographic parameters of cardiac structure and function.
Methods And Results: Of 151 subjects with HF due to left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) prospectively randomized to NT-proBNP-guided vs. SOC HF care, 116 had serial echocardiographic data.
This report presents a protocol used to transfer the virtual treatment plan data to the surgical and prosthetic reality and its clinical application, bone site augmentation with computer-custom milled bovine bone graft blocks to their ideal architecture form, implant insertion based on image-guided stent fabrication, and the restorative manufacturing process through computed tomography-based software programs and navigation systems and the computer-aided design and manufacturing techniques for the treatment of the edentulous maxilla.

Background: It is unclear whether standard HF treatment plus a goal of reducing NT-proBNP concentrations improves outcomes compared with standard management alone.
Methods: In a prospective single-center trial, 151 subjects with HF due to left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction were randomized to receive either standard HF care plus a goal to reduce NT-proBNP concentrations ≤1,000 pg/ml or SOC management.
Objective: Some longitudinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have shown reduced volume or cortical thickness (CT) in the frontal cortices of individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These studies indicated that the aforementioned anatomical abnormalities disappear during adolescence. In contrast, cross-sectional studies on adults with ADHD have shown anatomical abnormalities in the frontal lobe region.

We present the first report of a tumor thrombus from RCC extending from the kidney down the ureter and into the lumen of the bladder. This case both: (1) provides evidence for growth of RCC along the urinary tract, and (2) poses a staging dilemma.

Our goal was to establish a new method to assign oestrogen receptor and ERBB2-receptor status to breast carcinoma based on mRNA expression measured using Affymetrix U133A gene-expression profiling.
Methods: We used gene expression data of 495 breast cancer samples to assess the correlation between oestrogen receptor (ESR1) and ERBB2 mRNA and clinical status of these genes (as established by immunohistochemical [IHC] or fluorescence in-situ hybridisation [FISH], or both).
This study compares genetic polymorphisms at the D1S80 and HLA-DQA1 loci in three Mexican Mestizo populations from three large states (Nuevo León, Jalisco, and the Federal District). Allele frequency distributions are relatively homogenous in the three samples; only the Federal District population shows minor differences of the HLA-DQA1 allele frequencies compared with the other two. In terms of genetic composition, these Mestizo populations show evidence of admixture with predominantly Spanish-European (50-60%) and Amerindian (37-49%) contributions; the African contribution (1-3%) is minor.

At comparable levels of arterial BP, renal blood flow was not significantly different between nNOS +/+ and nNOS -/- (1.7 +/- 0.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTransiently catecholaminergic cells (TC-cells) expressing tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) have been shown in a variety of tissues during embryonic life. To investigate the possible relationship of nitric oxide synthase (NOS)-containing renal neuronal somata (RNS) and the TC-cells, we examined serial 100 microm slices of whole kidneys for TH-immunofluorescence and NADPH-d histochemistry during prenatal and postnatal development. The number of TH-cells increased during the prenatal period, peaked at birth and were very rare by PD21.

The mRNA level of Cx43 in macrodissected renal regions appeared in the following order: inner papilla > outer papilla and IGP > outer medulla and cortex. Among the microdissected tubules, inner medullary collecting ducts (IMCD) expressed the highest level of Cx43 mRNA, followed by the cortical collecting ducts (CCD).

TGF-alpha knockout mice and TGF-alpha-deficient mice (wa-1) provide novel approaches to evaluate the role of TGF-alpha in preserving the integrity of the colon.
Methods: Colitis was induced by oral administration of dextran sodium sulfate (DSS, 5 g/dL) to knockout mice, their genetic controls (GC), wa-1 mice, and BALB/c mice.

1. The juxtaglomerular apparatus (JGA) consists of a tubular component, the macula densa (MD), attached to a vascular component consisting of the afferent and efferent arterioles and the extraglomerular mesangium. The JGA is richly innervated by sympathetic fibres.

The 3 constructs proved to be separate dimensions, although collectivism and familism were positively correlated. In Study 1, persons of color scored higher on collectivism and familism than did Anglos.

Association of TGF alpha staining nerve fibers to vessels and smooth muscle cells gives morphological evidence that EGF/TGF alpha's actions to increase mucosal blood flow and gastric motility may be mediated by TGF alpha derived from neural structures. These data suggest that TGF alpha plays a role in the neural control of the gastric function.

However, the origin of neoductules and ducts in the setting of liver disease has not been extensively investigated in humans. Using anticytokeratins characteristic of hepatocytes and bile ducts, we repeated earlier studies of fetal development to compare ductule formation in normal developing and newborn livers with the ductules formed during extrahepatic biliary atresia.

The histochemical method for demonstration of the nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase (NADPH-d) was also used to characterize NOS-containing neurons. All somata showing NOS immunoreactivity also displayed NADPH-d activity.

Animals at embryonic day 14 (ED14), ED16, ED18, ED20, at birth (PD0), and at postnatal days 4 (PD4), PD12, PD21 and PD35 were studied.

Examining serial 100 microns slices of whole kidneys, we identified three subpopulations of neuronal somata by: (a) staining for NADPH-diaphorase (NADPH-d) histochemistry followed by the demonstration of dopamine beta-hydroxylase (DBH) by immunoperoxidase, and (b) staining for DBH by immunofluorescence followed by the demonstration of NADPH-d histochemical activity. The largest subpopulation of neuronal somata displayed both DBH immunoreactivity and NADPH-d histochemical activity.
