Background: This work developed an interpretable deep learning model to automatically annotate landmarks and calculate the hallux valgus angle (HVA) and the intermetatarsal angle (IMA), reducing the time and error of manual calculations by medical experts and improving the efficiency and accuracy of hallux valgus (HV) diagnosis.
Methods: A total of 2,000 foot X-ray images were manually labeled with 12 landmarks by two surgical specialists as training data for the deep learning model. The important parts of the foot X-ray images centered on the proximal phalanx of the bunion (PH1), the first metatarsal (MT1), and the second metatarsal (MT2) were segmented using the proposed AG-UNet in the study.
Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of open reduction and internal fixation for displaced intra-articular calcaneal fractures through a modified tarsal sinus incision.
Methods: A retrospective review over 3 years of the clinical data of patients with intra-articular calcaneal fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation through lateral hook curvy incisions. The efficacy of the 25 lateral hook curvy incisions was analyzed.
The contents of the plantar intermetatarsal tunnel (PIMT) and the relationship between the common plantar interdigital nerve (CPIN) and the PIMT were recorded. The width of the PIMT was measured at the metatarsal neck (MTN), metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint and the base of the proximal phalanx (BPP). The length of the deep transverse metatarsal ligament (DTML), the PIMT and the intracapsular ligament (ICL) were also measured.
