Background: Trauma patients are resource intensive, requiring a variety of medical and procedural interventions during hospitalization. These expenses often label trauma care as "high cost" based on gross hospital charges. We hypothesized that a financial metric built on actual costs and clinically relevant trauma patient cohorts would demonstrate a lower true cost of trauma care than the standardly reported gross hospital charges.

Background: The California-Mexico border region is a high-volume trauma area with populations of widely disparate socioeconomic status. This work analyzed differences in demographics and mechanism of injury in children using the Area Deprivation Index (ADI), a composite measure of 17 markers of neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage.

Case of Cocaine Induced Coronary and Carotid Artery Dissection.

Cocaine use has been individually linked to both carotid and coronary artery dissections. However, their simultaneous occurrence has not been previously reported. A 30-year-old man who suffered an acute ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction secondary to acute carotid and coronary artery dissections, respectively, 16 hours after snorting cocaine.

Oral health assessment in children aging 8-15 years with bronchial asthma using inhalation medication.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to evaluate and compare oral health status of bronchial asthma patients between the age group of 8-15 years with healthy individuals and examines the relationship between the severity of asthma, dose duration, method of taking medication, and use of AeroChamber on the dental health of children diagnosed with asthma.

Materials And Methods: The present cross-sectional study assessed the oral status of asthmatic patients and compared with a control group of 200 nonasthmatic patients. Both groups were matched in relation to age and gender.

Methods: Adult patients with >1 rib fracture in the 2016-2018 California Office of Statewide Health Planning Database were identified.

Dentinogenic ghost cell tumor: Case report of a rare central variant and literature review.

The dentinogenic ghost cell tumor (DGCT), a solid variant of the calcifying odontogenic cysts, is an uncommon odontogenic neoplasm which is aggressive and has a propensity for recurrence. It accounts for <0.5% of all odontogenic tumors which can exhibit intraosseous (central) or extraosseous (peripheral) localization.

A Rare Cause of Breathlessness in a Patient on Hemodialysis.

Patients suffering from end stage renal disease (ESRD) often present to the emergency with breathlessness, mostly due to fluid overload. We report a rare case of recurrent unilateral massive pleural effusion in an ESRD patient on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). The patient was on MHD thrice weekly for the last 2 years with right internal jugular vein (IJV) tunneled cuffed catheter (TCC).

Comparison Between Conventional Titanium Miniplates and Indigenous Detachable Custom made 3D Titanium Plates (VAS 3D Bone Plate) for Fixation of Mandibular Fracture in Mental Foramen Region: A Randomized Clinical Trial and Finite Element Analysis.

Purpose: To overcome limitation of 3D plate for fracture fixation in mental foramen region, by designing an indigenous custom made detachable 3D titanium plate (VAS 3D bone plate) and comparing it with two miniplate fixations for fractures of aforementioned region.

Methodology: Finite element analysis (FEA) of VAS plate and randomised clinical trial was performed and compared with miniplates. Twenty fractures in 19 patients with fracture in mental foramen region were divided randomly into two groups (Group I-fixation by miniplates and Group II with VAS plate) and evaluated for ease of fixation, neurosensory deficit, bite forces, occlusion and adequacy of fracture fixation.

Objectives: Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs) are progressive disorders which lead to development of arthralgia and functional disabilities of temporomandibular joint. The treatment of the TMDs is controversial; noninvasive and minimally invasive therapies have shown a success rate of 70 to 85% for its management. The objective of present study is to evaluate and compare the efficacy of intra-articular platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and arthrocentesis in management of TMDs.

Leiomyosarcoma of palate is a rare malignant spindle cell tumour in oral cavity. It is often misdiagnosed with other benign lesions like nodular fasciitis, clinical and histological similarity of rapid growth, rich cellularity, as the pathogenesis is unknown, which can make diagnosis and management challenging. The non-specific clinical, radiologic and pathological presentation of spindle cell tumours causes diagnostic difficulty due to similarities to granulation tissue, benign or malignant lesions in histologic and imaging features.
