Article Synopsis
  • The study looks at how the size of the prostate affects patients’ recovery and symptoms after a surgery called RASP, which helps treat an enlarged prostate (BPH).
  • They reviewed 25 articles and found that patients with smaller prostates had worse symptoms before surgery but improved more after, while those with larger prostates still had some moderate symptoms.
  • The researchers concluded that RASP is a safe and effective surgery for treating BPH, but more studies are needed to understand how prostate size influences the results.

Background: En bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) is an established surgical treatment method for patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) in tumors less than 3 cm. Data regarding the efficacy and safety of ERBT on larger than 3 cm tumors are sparse and its efficacy compared to conventional transurethral resection (TURBT) remains unclear. The aim of this study was to prospectively compare the feasibility, safety and oncological outcomes of laser (Tm-fiber) ERBT and TURBT in patients with primary bladder lesions ≥3 cm.

Article Synopsis
  • A study assessed the outcomes of patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) who had transurethral resection using either sterile water or glycine for irrigation, focusing on tumor recurrence and progression.
  • Researchers reviewed records of 530 patients and found that after matching, those treated with sterile water had significantly lower rates of recurrence (43%) and progression (85%) compared to those treated with glycine (71% and 94%, respectively).
  • The study concluded that sterile water is linked to higher recurrence and progression rates, likely due to a weaker immune response compared to glycine, which induced more markers of immunogenic cell death.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting patients of reproductive age. Although HS shares risk factors with male infertility, only 1 epidemiological study has evaluated this association. To further evaluate this potential association, findings on semen and hormonal analysis, testicular ultrasound, and the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-15) were compared between 28 men attending a tertiary HS clinic during the period April 2019 to April 2021, and 44 healthy controls, spouses of infertile women undergoing semen evaluation before in vitro fertilization.

Background: The number of studies suggesting that en bloc resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) is superior to transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) management is growing. The aim of this review is to discuss the features of these procedures and to determine the prospects of en bloc in NMIBC management.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a literature search using two databases (Medline and Scopus) and included any research which reported ERBT outcomes.

Introduction: Perioperative instillation of mitomycin-C (MMC) has shown effectiveness in reducing the recurrence of low-grade non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Data is lacking about the impact of single-dose MMC following office fulguration of low-grade urothelial carcinoma. We compared the outcomes of small-volume low-grade recurrent NMIBC in patients treated with office-fulguration - with and without an immediate single-dose instillation of MMC.

Upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) is a relatively rare disease with an aggressive phenotype compared to urothelial carcinoma in the bladder. In recent years, kidney-sparing surgery (KSS) and, in particular, endoscopic surgery have become the procedure of choice among urologists where the treatment of localized UTUC is concerned. Endoscopy tends to result in satisfactory oncological disease control while lowering morbidity and minimizing complications amongst the appropriately selected cohort of patients.
