Acute kidney injury after exercise is most commonly secondary to rhabdomyolysis. Non-rhabdomyolysis AKI is secondary to a limited number of disorders of which renal hypouricemia (RHUC) needs a special mention. It is relatively a rare genetic disorder and is reported in Japanese and Ashkenazi Jews.

By varying the position of the collimator with respect to the point source, the collimation state of the input beam is varied and the computed MSEs are analyzed to deduce the collimation state. The minimum value of the MSE indicates beam collimation.

This approach is potentially exportable to other environmental issues where a cohort representative of the country population is needed. The cohort is derived from the National Health Interview Survey, compulsory in European countries, which has information on individual lifestyle factors.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: The LIFE MED HISS project aims at setting up a surveillance system on the long term effects of air pollution on health, using data from National Health Interview Surveys and other currently available sources of information in most European countries. Few studies assessed the long term effect of air pollution on hospital admissions in European cohorts.
Objective: The objective of this paper is to estimate the long term effect of fine particulate matter (PM2.
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection has posed as a major global health epidemic for almost three decades. With the advent of highly active antiretroviral therapy in 1996 and the application of prophylaxis and management of opportunistic infections, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome mortality has decreased markedly. The most aggressive HIV-related renal disease is end-stage renal disease due to HIV-associated nephropathy.

It is histologically characterized by a neutrophil-predominant infiltrate in the subepidermal region with deposition of immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM), C3, and auto-antibodies against collagen VII. Herein, we report a case of a 13-year-old girl who presented with bullous SLE and Class III lupus nephritis, which is extremely rare at this age.

The aim of this study was to determine the outcomes of PRAKI and risk factors associated with renal injury and maternal mortality. One hundred and sixty-five patients with PRAKI, seen at M.

Urine routine showed proteinuria and hematuria. Biochemical parameters revealed raised serum creatinine, and histological findings of the renal biopsy showed IgAN.

A limited body of evidence is also suggestive for a beneficial association between residential exposure to greenness and mortality, but the evidence for such an association with life expectancy is still very scarce.
Objective: To investigate the association of exposure to air pollution and greenness with mortality and life expectancy in Spain.
Background: Ear, nose and throat foreign bodies (FBs) are common occurrences particularly among children. This study reviewed the clinical spectrum of ENT FBs, their treatment and outcomes as seen in a tertiary health center in North Western Nigeria.
Method: The study was a retrospective chart review of patients that were managed for FB impaction in a tertiary health institution in North Western Nigeria over a four year period.
Background: Epistaxis is one of the most common acute otorhinolaryngologic emergency disorders
Objective: To review the aetiological profile, management and outcome of epistaxis in a resource challenged environment in Nigeria Methods: A retrospective review of patients that were managed for epistaxis over a five year period
Results: A total of 88 patients with an incidence of 18/1000 consisting of 53 males M:F ratio 1.5:1. The age ranged from 2- 68 years and age group 0-10 years was the most affected 29 (33%).
Hypercoagulable disorders are now diagnosed more frequently than before. These patients are, usually, managed with multiple anticoagulant and antiplatelet medications. Left unmonitored and unevaluated, there can be disastrous haemorrhagic or thrombotic complications.

Within the EpiAir Project (Air pollution and health: epidemiological surveillance and prevention) we performed a preliminary analysis to identify adverse (or opportune) situation for pollutant dispersion. Knowledge of the meteo-diffusive peculiarity of a city is an efficient support in identifying and planning preventive actions.

We retrospectively compared two similar groups of patients who underwent either endoscopic decompression of the carpal tunnel (single portal technique, 44 patients) or open decompression (58 patients) during 1 year in our department. To find out whether there was any subjective difference between the results of the two techniques, we sent each patient a questionnaire and received a 95% response. No major complications occurred.
