Acute kidney injury after exercise is most commonly secondary to rhabdomyolysis. Non-rhabdomyolysis AKI is secondary to a limited number of disorders of which renal hypouricemia (RHUC) needs a special mention. It is relatively a rare genetic disorder and is reported in Japanese and Ashkenazi Jews.

MSE-based analysis of circular grating self-images for testing beam collimation.

Mean square error (MSE) is used to detect variations in the period between a pair of self-images formed at two different Talbot planes of a circular grating (CG) using a beam splitter in a conventional collimation testing setup. By varying the position of the collimator with respect to the point source, the collimation state of the input beam is varied and the computed MSEs are analyzed to deduce the collimation state. The minimum value of the MSE indicates beam collimation.

LIFE Med Hiss: An innovative cohort design for public health.

The aim of MED HISS methodology was to test the effectiveness of a low-cost approach to study long-term effects of air pollution, applicable in all European countries. This approach is potentially exportable to other environmental issues where a cohort representative of the country population is needed. The cohort is derived from the National Health Interview Survey, compulsory in European countries, which has information on individual lifestyle factors.

Unusual presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus.

Bullous systemic lupus erythematosus is a rare distinctive subepidermal blistering disorder that can occur in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is histologically characterized by a neutrophil-predominant infiltrate in the subepidermal region with deposition of immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, IgM), C3, and auto-antibodies against collagen VII. Herein, we report a case of a 13-year-old girl who presented with bullous SLE and Class III lupus nephritis, which is extremely rare at this age.

We report a case of idiopathic erythrocytosis in a 31-year-old male who was incidentally detected to have hypertension during his preemployment checkup. Background: Air pollution exposure has been associated with an increase in mortality rates, but few studies have focused on life expectancy, and most studies had restricted spatial coverage. A limited body of evidence is also suggestive for a beneficial association between residential exposure to greenness and mortality, but the evidence for such an association with life expectancy is still very scarce.

The results of carpal tunnel release: open versus endoscopic technique.

We retrospectively compared two similar groups of patients who underwent either endoscopic decompression of the carpal tunnel (single portal technique, 44 patients) or open decompression (58 patients) during 1 year in our department. To find out whether there was any subjective difference between the results of the two techniques, we sent each patient a questionnaire and received a 95% response. No major complications occurred.
