Objective: The impact of trainees on inpatient patient care is incompletely understood. This study sought to discern the impact of trainees on patient outcomes and costs at a children's hospital in the community. We hypothesized that there would be no differences in patient outcomes and costs on an inpatient teaching service compared to a nonteaching service.

A reduction in pH from 6.7 to 6 in the lungs, as observed in respiratory disease, led to 20-fold, 4.

We tested the hypothesis that BBB P-glycoprotein activity is diminished in Alzheimer disease (AD) by accounting for an AD-related reduction in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF).
Methods: We compared P-glycoprotein activity in mild-AD patients (n = 9) and cognitively normal, age-matched controls (n = 9) using PET with a labeled P-glycoprotein substrate, (11)C-verapamil, and (15)O-water to measure rCBF.
The polar nucleoside drug ribavirin is front-line treatment for chronic hepatitis C virus infection. The human equilibrative nucleoside transporter (ENT) 1 transports ribavirin into erythrocytes where it is phosphorylated. These phosphorylated metabolites accumulate in the erythrocytes and produce dose-limiting hemolytic anemia.

Although Munc18c function is known to involve binding to the t-SNARE Syntaxin 4, a paucity of Munc18c-binding proteins has restricted elucidation of the mechanism by which it facilitates these exocytosis events. Toward this end, we have identified the double C2 domain protein Doc2beta as a new binding partner for Munc18c.

The reason for this approach is to gain a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis in Malaysia. The expression of phospho-GSK-3beta and beta-catenin by immunohistochemistry and the mutations of beta-catenin were studied in 23 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and surrounding tissues.

Objective: To understand the molecular mechanism and find out the responsible genes for liver cancer by exploring the regulation of gene expression during hepatocarcinogenesis in tree shrew induced by aflatoxin B1 (AFB1).
Methods: The tissues from tree shrew of different stages during the pathogenesis and development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), liver cancer tissue, para-cancerous tissues, pre-cancerous liver tissues, liver tissues of the same stage from normal controls and the liver tissues taken before AFB1-treatment were analyzed for gene expression by cDNA array.
Results: Four patterns of gene expression were observed during AFB1-induced hepatocarcinogenesis.
