Patient and caregiver engagement in research: factors that influence co-enrollment in research.

Background: Recruitment of pediatric participants in studies is difficult due to the vulnerability of this population and the scarcity of certain conditions. Co-enrolling in multiple studies is a strategy that may help overcome this problem. Although anecdotal evidence suggests that co-enrollment may increase patient and caregiver burden, few studies have been conducted from the patient perspective.

Gemcitabine-induced pseudocellulitis: a case report and review of the literature.

Gemcitabine is a chemotherapeutic agent used in a wide variety of solid tumours. Known side effects include a dose-limiting myelosuppressive toxicity, mild rash, and radiation-dependent dermatitis. Rarely, localized inflammation in the form of pseudocellulitis has also been observed.

The effect of bariatric surgery on serum 25-OH vitamin D levels: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Concerns have emerged about post-operative decreases in calcium and vitamin D following bariatric surgery. This review explores changes in metabolic bone health in persons with obesity undergoing gastric bypass surgery compared to non-surgical controls, providing an updated and comprehensive perspective on the literature.

Methods: An electronic search was conducted in MEDLINE, Pubmed, EMBASE and Cochrane databases to 8 November 2016.

Behavioral activation group therapy for reducing depressive symptoms and improving quality of life: a feasibility study.

Background: Depression is associated with a loss of productivity and noticeable personal, social, and economic decline; it affects more than 350 million people worldwide. Behavioral activation (BA), derived from cognitive behavioral therapy, has drawn increasingly more interest as a means of treatment for major depressive disorder due to its relative cost-effectiveness and efficacy. In this study, we disseminate findings from a feasibility study evaluating barriers to implementing a group BA program for major depressive disorder.

Testosterone suppression in opioid users: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Whether used for pain management or recreation, opioids have a number of adverse effects including hormonal imbalances. These imbalances have been reported to primarily involve testosterone and affect both males and females to the point of interfering with successful treatment and recovery. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to determine the extent that opioids affect testosterone levels in both men and women, which may be relevant to improved treatment outcomes for opioid dependence and for pain management.

Stability of Cannabis sativa L. samples and their extracts, on prolonged storage in Delhi.

The percentage rate of change into cannabinoids (Cannabidiol [CBD], tetrahydrocannabinol [THC] and cannabinol [CBN]) was higher in cannabis samples than in the extracts. This is probalby due to the decomposition of acids into corresponding neutral cannabinoids under the conditions of storage. Previous claims that CBD content in plant material is relatively constant are not substantiated by our results.

Sorption of 75 per cent DDT water-dispersible powder on different mud surfaces.

The loss of residual insecticide particles on absorbent mud surfaces due to the phenomenon of sorption has been well investigated from various physical, chemical and biological aspects. The present report describes an attempt to correlate the relative sorption capacities of representative Indian and African soils and a synthetic soil with the physicochemical characteristics of these soils and their surfaces. The investigation has further elucidated the mode of sorption of non-volatile residual insecticides on mud surfaces and the role of certain physicochemical factors.
