Article Synopsis
  • This study examined the prevalence of gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in patients with lupus and identified factors linked to increased mortality.
  • Out of 1160 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients, 91 displayed GI manifestations, with prevalence rates of 8.53% in kids and 7.75% in adults, showing no significant difference between the groups.
  • Key findings highlighted that conditions like ischemic colitis were correlated with longer disease duration and specific autoantibodies, and patients with GI involvement had a higher mortality rate due to complications like sepsis and organ damage.

Article Synopsis
  • Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB) is a rare genetic disorder that primarily affects the skin and can involve the mucosal areas, although laryngeal involvement is uncommon.
  • A 7-month-old boy with JEB experienced respiratory distress and stridor, which led to the discovery of multiple levels of laryngeal stenosis.
  • Further longitudinal studies are needed to assess the long-term outcomes of JEB in patients with laryngeal issues to prevent unnecessary surgeries.

Laryngeal Melanosis is a rare entity with unclear significance: whether it is a premalignant lesion for squamous cell carcinoma of the larynx or a sign of mucosal melanoma. In the few reported cases in the literature, it is descried as localised/diffused brownish discoloration of the mucosal surface of the involved subsite of the larynx. We hereby report a raised localised laryngeal melanosis of the vocal cord with an initial histopathology report of dysplasia.

Objectives: We sought to identify the predictors of not achieving remission or low disease activity (LDA) among axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) patients in four Middle Eastern countries.

Methods: In this multicenter prospective real-world study, adult patients with axial SpA diagnosed clinically during January-June 2019, and who met the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society classification criteria for axial SpA, were enrolled from the participating centers of four countries-Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE. Patient demographics, disease history, comorbidities, treatment, and compliance data were obtained at baseline.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA), previously known as Churg-Strauss disease, is a rare vasculitis that affects small- to medium-sized vessels and has a propensity to involve the heart. Patients with cardiac involvement have a poor prognosis and usually require immunosuppressive treatment along with corticosteroids. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) is a non-invasive diagnostic tool for detecting cardiac involvement and guiding the management plan.

Although great progress has been made in the past decade toward understanding the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), clinicians remain some distance from a goal of personalized health care. The capacity to diagnose RA early, predict prognosis, and moreover predict response to biologic therapies has been a research focus for many years. How currently available clinical prediction models can facilitate such goals is reviewed in this article.

Large head and neck teratomas are very rare. Depending on their site of origin, they can produce varying degrees of airway compromise and can interfere with the conduct of general anesthesia. Large space-occupying lesions of the face may even interfere with the simple task of mask ventilation rendering inhaled induction of general anesthesia and maintenance of spontaneous ventilation difficult.
