Brain plasticity is involved in the regulation of neural differentiation as well as in functional processes related to memory consolidation, learning, and cognition during healthy life and brain pathology. Modifications in lifestyle, like poor diet, insufficient physical exercise and cognitive stimulation are associated with an increased risk of neurodegeneration; however, there is a paucity of research regarding the impact of individual factors on dementia risk or progression. Cognitive stimulation is a group of techniques and strategies, including cognitive enrichment (CE) and cognitive training (CT), aimed to maintain or improve the functionality of cognitive abilities, such as memory, learning, cognitive flexibility, and attention.

Bariatric surgery is recognized as a long-term solution for weight loss in severely obese patients. This pilot study investigates the feasibility, intraoperative and 30-day morbidity outcomes of integrating gynecological surgical staging and bariatric robotic surgery in class II and III obese patients affected by early EC or Endometrial Intraepithelial Neoplasia (EIN).

This review aims to explore the intricate relationship between such factors, with reference to their effects on human cognitive functions. The specific goal is to understand the bidirectional influence that sleep and reserve exert on each other.

However, it has not been clarified whether different types of aerobic exercise produce different effects. In particular, these potential differences have not been explored in patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Its incidence is skyrocketing due to the increase in risk factors such as obesity, which represents a true pandemic. This study aimed to evaluate microRNA (miRNA) expression in obesity-related EC to identify potential associations between this specific cancer type and obesity.

We aimed to assess the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection in women who gave birth at the University Hospital "Federico II" of Naples, Italy, between 2020 and 2021. We conducted a retrospective single-center population-based observational study to assess the differences in the caesarean section and preterm labor rates and the length of stay between women who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and those who tested negative at the time of labor.

Argon is an emerging interest in the field of noble gas therapy. Neonates with severe sepsis are frequently mechanically ventilated creating an opportunity for inhalation therapy.

Here, we characterize mouse phenotypes that spontaneously show fear-independent behavioral traits predicting adaptive or maladaptive fear extinction. We find that, already before fear conditioning, specific morphological, electrophysiological, and transcriptomic patterns of cortical and amygdala pyramidal neurons predispose to fear-related disorders.

Main objective of the present study was to analyze adherence and knowledge regarding MD principles in a sample of individuals practicing amatorial sports from the Metropolitan Area of Palermo.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 10 Sports Centers, between October 2020 and September 2021, through a previously validated anonymous questionnaire structured in five sections including 74 items.
Purpose: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), an inflammatory intestinal disease common in premature infants, has been associated with the development of lung damage. Toll-like receptor 4 has been shown to regulate inflammation in the NEC lungs, however, other important inflammatory mechanisms have not been thoroughly investigated. In addition, we reported that milk-derived exosomes were able to attenuate intestinal injury and inflammation in experimental NEC.

Although the restoration of bile flow can be successful after Kasai operation, the rapid progression of liver fibrosis can continue, leading to cirrhosis.

During the 2020/2021 pandemic season, COVID-19 vaccines were not yet available until the end of December 2020, and influenza vaccines were the only one available to protect against seasonal respiratory diseases. The main objective of the present study was to assess knowledge, attitudes and adherence to influenza and other vaccinations recommended by the National Immunization Plan 2017-2021 for healthcare workers.

Evidence suggests that systemic inflammation, dysregulation of the immune response and the resulting neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration play a significant role in AD pathogenesis. Currently, given that there is no fully convincing cure for AD, the interest in lifestyle factors (such as diet), which potentially delay onset and reduce the severity of symptoms, is increasing.

Maternal immune activation and early immune activation have adverse effects on the development of the nervous system and cognitive functions. Neuroinflammation during adulthood leads to neurodegenerative diseases.

This study examined the role of psychological distress during the first Italian COVID-19 lockdown in predicting post-operative outcomes in post-bariatric patients reaching the end of the 12-18 months follow-up during the lockdown. By using a person-centered approach, groups of patients with different psychological distress profiles were identified.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a gastrointestinal disease frequently prevalent in premature neonates. Despite advances in research, there is a lack of accurate, early diagnoses of NEC and the current therapeutic approaches remain exhausted and disappointing. In this review, we have taken a close look at the regenerative medical literature available in the context of NEC treatment.

However, specific aspects of such a beneficial effect still need to be completely clarified. To this aim, the present narrative review focused on the potential brain/cognitive/neural reserve-construction mechanisms triggered by different aerobic exercise types (land activities; such as walking or running; vs.

The primitive gut originates at week 3 of gestation from the endoderm, with posterior incorporation of the remaining embryo layers. Wnt, Notch and TLR4 pathways have been shown to play central roles in the correct development of the intestine. The classical hypothesis for intestinal atresia development consists of failure in bowel recanalization or a vascular accident with secondary bowel reabsorption.

In this comment, we highlight the diagnosis of Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) in a 60-year-old man was made from identification and removal of normochromic papular cutaneous lesions whose histological examination indicated trichodyscomas and which are considered equivalent to fibrofolliculomas, presence of bilateral renal mass suggestive of angiomyolipomas by imaging exams. A benign/likely benign variant of FLCN in the intron 13 was also detected. Still, his previous pathological history presented other relevant data such as the prior removal of vocal cord angioma, total thyroidectomy, and left parotidectomy due to a cystic lesion whose histopathological examination revealed the presence of oncocytoma and lipomatosis, in addition to basal cell cutaneous carcinoma.

They represent the superordinate division of emotion, and individual differences in such traits are associated with disease susceptibility. The neural circuitry underlying A/A traits is retained to be the cortico-limbic pathway including the amygdala, the central hub for the emotional processing.
