Smoking is a well known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the effects of smoking on gene expression in the blood of CAD subjects in Hungary have not been extensively studied. This study aimed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) associated with smoking in CAD subjects.

Dermatomyositis (DM) is an autoimmune idiopathic inflammatory myopathy with characteristic dermatologic manifestations. Myositis-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) delineate DM subtypes and their prognoses. Uncommonly, patients present with distinct clinical features of DM, including photosensitive dermatitis, heliotrope rash, Gottron's papules, and nailfold changes; however, their autoimmune serology is negative for expected MSAs.

Effect of Cryoprotectants on Long-Term Storage of Oral Mucosal Epithelial Cells: Implications for Stem Cell Preservation and Proliferation Status.

In this study, we tested a method for long-term storage of oral mucosal epithelial cells (OMECs) so that the cells could be expanded in vitro after cryopreservation and used for the treatment of bilateral limbal stem cell deficiency. The ability of suspended primary OMECs to proliferate in vitro after cryopreservation was compared to that of OMEC cultures that had undergone the same process. Both were preserved in standard complex medium (COM) with or without cryoprotective agents (CPAs) (gly-cerol at 5 % or 10 % or dimethyl sulphoxide at 10 %).

The plastic TME, and the poor systemic tolerability of immune activating drugs are, however, fundamental barriers to generating curative anticancer immune responses. Here, we introduce the CarboCell technology to overcome these barriers by forming an intratumoral sustained drug release depot that provides high payloads of immune stimulatory drugs selectively within the TME.

Differences in anthropometric and vertical jump force-time characteristics between U16 and U18 female basketball players.

Considering the importance of body composition and lower-body strength and power for basketball players' on-court performance, as well as a lack of sports science research focused on female athletes, the purpose of the present investigation was to record the anthropometric and countermovement vertical jump (CMJ) characteristics of top-tier U16 and U18 female basketball players and examine between-group differences in the aforementioned tests. Thirty-two athletes who were a part of the national basketball academy volunteered to participate in the present investigation. Following the body composition assessment conducted via a segmental multifrequency bioimpedance analyzer, athletes performed three CMJs while standing on a force plate system sampling at 1000 Hz.

Autoimmune inflammation is caused by the loss of tolerance to specific self-antigens and can result in organ-specific or systemic disorders. Systemic autoimmune diseases affect a significant portion of the population with an increasing rate of incidence, which means that is essential to have effective therapies to control these chronic disorders. Unfortunately, several patients with systemic autoimmune diseases do not respond at all or just partially respond to available conventional synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs and targeted therapies.

[What is adult ADHD after all?].

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a childhood-onset mental disorder, demonstrates genetical effects, and is characterized by attention deficit, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. While ADHD was previously only considered a childhood disorder, longitudinal studies over the past decades have proven that in a significant number of cases, the symptoms of the disorder can also be detected in adulthood, and therefore affects 2-4% of the adult population. In Hungary, adult ADHD programs started about 20 years ago and has been able to provide help to many adults living with ADHD.

The existing plant trait databases' applicability is limited for studies dealing with the flora and vegetation of the eastern and central part of Europe and for large-scale comparisons across regions, mostly because their geographical data coverage is limited and they incorporate records from several different sources, often from regions with markedly different climatic conditions. These problems motivated the compilation of a regional dataset for the flora of the Pannonian region (Eastern Central Europe). PADAPT, the Pannonian Dataset of Plant Traits relies on regional data sources and collates data on 54 traits and attributes of the plant species of the Pannonian region.

Outcome of Application of Cryopreserved Amniotic Membrane Grafts in the Treatment of Chronic Nonhealing Wounds of Different Origins in Polymorbid Patients: A Prospective Multicenter Study.

To compare the therapeutic efficacy of cryopreserved amniotic membrane (AM) grafts and standard of care (SOC) in treating nonhealing wounds (NHW) through a prospective multicenter clinical trial, 42 patients (76% polymorbid) with 54 nonhealing wounds of various etiologies (mainly venous) and an average baseline size of 20 cm were included. All patients were treated for at least 6 weeks in the center before they were involved in the study. In the SOC group, 29 patients (36 wounds) were treated.
