Painful os peroneum syndrome (POPS) is one of the uncommon causes of lateral foot pain in orthopaedic practice. POPS encompasses a spectrum of pathologies such as an acute or a chronic fracture, peroneus longus tenosynovitis, and attrition or partial rupture of the peroneus longus tendon. Herein, we reported the first case of POPS secondary to hydroxyapatite deposition disease in a 32-year-old female patient.

Use of selective internal radiation therapy with yttrium-90 as a bridge to liver resection: a 5-year single-center experience.

Background: Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) with yttrium-90 (Y-90) has been historically reserved for unresectable liver malignancy. Evidence is emerging for the use of SIRT to increase future liver remnant (FLR), allowing for the resection of previously inoperable disease.

Methods: This was a 5-year retrospective review of all patients undergoing SIRT with Y-90 at a tertiary institute.

Objectives: Recent advancement in understanding neurological disorders has revealed the involvement of dysbiosis of the gut microbiota in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease (PD). We sequenced microbial DNA using fecal samples collected from PD cases and healthy controls (HCs) to evaluate the role of gut microbiota.

Methods: Full-length bacterial 16S rRNA gene sequencing of fecal samples was performed using amplified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products on the GridION Nanopore sequencer.

Backgrounds/aims: Optimal intravenous fluid management during the perioperative period for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) within the framework of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) is unclear. Studies have indicated that excessive total body salt and water can contribute to the development of oedema, leading to increased morbidity and extended hospital stays. This study aimed to assess the effects of an intravenous therapy regimen during postoperative day (POD) 0 to 2 in PD patients within ERAS.

Antimicrobial resistance heterogeneity among multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens: Phenotypic, genotypic, and proteomic analysis.

Microbes evolve rapidly by modifying their genomes through mutations or through the horizontal acquisition of mobile genetic elements (MGEs) linked with fitness traits such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), virulence, and metabolic functions. We conducted a multicentric study in India and collected different clinical samples for decoding the genome sequences of bacterial pathogens associated with sepsis, urinary tract infections, and respiratory infections to understand the functional potency associated with AMR and its dynamics. Genomic analysis identified several acquired AMR genes (ARGs) that have a pathogen-specific signature.

Gut Microbiome and Associated Metabolites Following Bariatric Surgery and Comparison to Healthy Controls.

The gut microbiome plays a significant role in regulating the host's ability to store fat, which impacts the development of obesity. This observational cohort study recruited obese adult men and women scheduled to undergo sleeve gastrectomy and followed up with them 6 months post-surgery to analyse their microbial taxonomic profiles and associated metabolites in comparison to a healthy control group. There were no significant differences in the gut bacterial diversity between the bariatric patients at baseline and at follow-up or between the bariatric patients and the cohort of healthy controls.

Is the antiseizure effect of ketogenic diet in children with drug-resistant epilepsy mediated through proinflammatory cytokines?

In order to understand whether the antiseizure mechanism of ketogenic diet (KD) is mediated through its anti-inflammatory effect, we measured the serum concentrations of cytokines IL- 1β and IL-6 in 21 children with drug-resistant epilepsy. We found a significant reduction in the levels of serum IL- 1β and IL-6 levels at one-year of KD therapy compared to baseline. However, we did not find any correlation between decrease in the serum concentrations of these interleukins with the reduction in seizure frequency at one-year of KD therapy, which may be due to the small sample size and heterogeneous patient population we studied.

Multidirectional Instability in a Neglected Elbow Dislocation Managed with Circumferential Ligament Reconstruction. A Case Report.

Neglected elbow dislocation is an uncommon condition and its treatment remains challenging. We present a case of a middle-aged woman presenting with neglected elbow dislocation and multi-direction instability in whom open reduction of the elbow joint and circumferential ligamentous reconstruction with a tendon graft was done. The functional outcome assessed with the Mayo elbow performance index was excellent.
