Unlabelled: Endometriosis is a common chronic non curable neuro-inflammatory condition, which can cause endometriosis-related pelvic pain (ERPP). Sufferers may struggle with side effects and/or risks from conventional medical and surgical treatments, or not get pain relief. Increasing numbers of endometriosis patients wish to explore holistic management with fewer side effects, however it is important that medical professionals maintain an evidence-based practice for recommended treatments.

Quinone reductases 1 and 2 (NQO1 and NQO2) are paralogous FAD-linked enzymes found in all amniotes. NQO1 and NQO2 have similar structures, and both catalyze the reduction of quinones and other electrophiles; however, the two enzymes differ in their cosubstrate preference. While NQO1 can use both redox couples NADH and NADPH, NQO2 is almost inactive with these cosubstrates and instead must use dihydronicotinamide riboside (NRH) and small synthetic cosubstrates such as N-benzyl-dihydronicotinamide (BNAH) for efficient catalysis.

The Proteostasis Network is a Therapeutic Target in Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Oncogenic growth places great strain and dependence on the proteostasis network. This has made proteostasis pathways attractive therapeutic targets in cancer, but efforts to drug these pathways have yielded disappointing clinical outcomes. One exception is proteasome inhibitors, which are approved for frontline treatment of multiple myeloma.

A Rare Case of Richter Transformation to Both Clonally Unrelated and Clonally Related Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma in the Same Patient.

Richter transformation (RT) is a rare sequelae of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). The clonal relationship of the RT to the underlined CLL/SLL is an important prognostic factor as clonally related RT has a worse prognosis than that of clonally unrelated RT. The development of more than one RT in the same patient is exceedingly rare and prior reports have shown cases consisting of RT to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and a subsequent or synchronous Hodgkin lymphoma.

Challenging Misconceptions about Race in Undergraduate Genetics.

Racial biases, which harm marginalized and excluded communities, may be combatted by clarifying misconceptions about race during biology lessons. We developed a human genetics laboratory activity that challenges the misconception that race is biological (biological essentialism). We assessed the relationship between this activity and student outcomes using a survey of students' attitudes about biological essentialism and color-evasive ideology and a concept inventory about phylogeny and human diversity.

Transmissible venereal tumor of the uterine stump following successful chemotherapy in a 5-year-old mixed-breed dog.

A 5-year-old spayed female mixed-breed dog was referred to the Atlantic Veterinary College (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) because of a 7-month history of intermittent pink, mucoid, vulvar discharge. The dog was imported from the Bahamas at 3.5 y of age and had a history of transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) of the vulva that was successfully treated with a course of vincristine chemotherapy.

Microbiome manipulation by corals and other Cnidaria via quorum quenching.

A dynamic mucous layer containing numerous micro-organisms covers the surface of corals and has multiple functions including both removal of sediment and "food gathering." It is likely to also act as the primary barrier to infection; various proteins and compounds with antimicrobial activity have been identified in coral mucus, though these are thought to be largely or exclusively of microbial origin. As in Hydra, anti-microbial peptides (AMPs) are likely to play major roles in regulating the microbiomes of corals.

Health Information System Strengthening During Antenatal Care in Haiti: Continuous Quality Improvement Study.

Background: Journey to 9 Plus (J9) is an integrated reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health approach to care that has at its core the goal of decreasing the rate of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality in rural Haiti. For the maximum effectiveness of this program, it is necessary that the data system be of the highest quality. OpenMRS, an electronic medical record (EMR) system, has been in place since 2013 throughout a tertiary referral hospital, the Hôpital Universitaire de Mirebalais, in Haiti and has been expanded for J9 data collection and reporting.

Protocol for integrating tissue clearing and light-sheet imaging to analyze cancer initiation in mosaic analysis with double markers mouse models.

Mosaic analysis with double markers (MADM) mouse models closely mimic the clonal origin of human cancers by generating sporadic, GFP-labeled cancer-initiating cells. Traditional clonal analysis pipelines are labor intensive, hindering throughput and disrupting the 3D architecture. Here, we present a protocol that integrates tissue clearing and light-sheet imaging to analyze pre-malignant clones in whole-mount MADM-labeled tissues.

The diagnosis and management of systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease-related interstitial lung disease: British Society for Rheumatology guideline scope.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a significant complication of many systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARDs), although the clinical presentation, severity and outlook may vary widely between individuals. Despite the prevalence, there are no specific guidelines addressing the issue of screening, diagnosis and management of ILD across this diverse group. Guidelines from the ACR and EULAR are expected, but there is a need for UK-specific guidelines that consider the framework of the UK National Health Service, local licensing and funding strategies.

Shaping Perceptions and Inspiring Future Neurosurgeons: The Value of a Hands-On Simulated Aneurysm Clipping Workshops at a Student-Organized Neurosurgical Conference.

 Early exposure to niche specialities, like neurosurgery, is essential to inform decisions about future training in these specialities. This study assesses the impact of a hands-on simulated aneurysm clipping workshop on medical students' and junior doctors' perceptions of neurosurgery at a student-organized neurosurgical conference.  Ninety-six delegates were sampled from a hands-on workshop involving hydrogel three-dimensional printed aneurysms clipping using surgical microscopes.

Revision Rates in Cosmetic Plastic Surgery with and without Resident Involvement.

Background: Changes in surgical education have caused concern over residents' preparedness for independent practice. As the field of otolaryngology requires such a wide breadth of expertise, ill preparation becomes especially costly. This study explores how the presence and participation of a postgraduate year 3 (PGY3) otolaryngology resident in surgery impacts revision rates and operating time as gauges for the resident competency and indirect training costs.

Evaluating Wall-Mounted Prompts to Facilitate Physical Activity-Related Discussion between Individuals with Cancer and Oncology Health Care Providers: A Pre-post Survey Study.

Purpose: To evaluate the use of wall-mounted prompts in facilitating physical activity (PA)-related discussions between individuals with cancer and oncology care providers.

Methods: Individuals with cancer were approached to participate in a survey-based pre-post study. Half of participants ( = 100) completed a survey prior to installation of wall-mounted prompts in clinic while the other half ( = 100) completed a survey following installation of the prompts.

Cognitive ability in early life and risk of depression in adulthood: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: There is an established association between cognitive ability and risk of depression, though the direction of this association is unclear. Measuring cognitive ability in childhood, prior to the diagnosis of depression, could help to understand whether childhood cognitive ability is associated with a later diagnosis of depression. This systematic review and meta-analysis explored the association between childhood cognitive ability and risk of depression in adulthood.

Computed tomography of a canine omental torsion secondary to a chronic abdominal gossypiboma and concurrent incidental broad ligament torsion.

A 5-year-old female spayed Dogue de Bordeaux was referred for concerns of an abdominal mass and peritoneal effusion. Abdominal radiographs identified a mid-ventral abdominal soft tissue opaque mass containing a radiopaque marker consistent with a gossypiboma. Contrast-enhanced abdominal CT identified two whirl signs associated with the abdominal gossypiboma.

On-Chip Circularly Polarized Circular Loop Antennas Utilizing 4H-SiC and GaAs Substrates in the Q/V Band.

This paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the performance of on-chip circularly polarized (CP) circular loop antennas that have been designed and fabricated to operate in the Q/V frequency band. The proposed antenna design incorporates two concentric loops, with the outer loop as the active element and the inner loop enhancing the CP bandwidth. The study utilizes gallium arsenide (GaAs) and silicon carbide (4H-SiC) semiconductor wafer substrates.

Cohort profile: The Scottish SHARE Mental Health (SHARE-MH) cohort - linkable survey, genetic and routinely collected data for mental health research.

Purpose: The SHARE Mental Health (SHARE-MH) cohort was established to address the paucity of clinical and genetic data available for mental health research. The cohort brings together detailed mental health questionnaire responses, routinely collected electronic health data and genetic data to provide researchers with an unprecedented linkable dataset. This combination of data sources allows researchers to track mental health longitudinally, across multiple settings.

Cost-Effective Design of Polarization and Bandwidth Reconfigurable Millimeter-Wave Loop Antenna.

A singly fed reconfigurable circular loop antenna is proposed for millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication systems. This antenna's distinctive feature lies in its capacity to adjust both polarization and bandwidth characteristics, a capability made possible by the strategic integration of two PIN diodes. These diodes are engineered to function in various modes, allowing for three distinct polarization states and accommodating two distinct bandwidths.
