Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome (NBCCS) is a rare condition characterized by varied clinical manifestations like multiple Basal Cell Carcinomas (BCC), multiple Keratocystic Odontogenic Tumours (KCOT), palmar and/or plantar pits and ectopic calcification of the falx cerebri, which are considered as the major criteria for diagnosis. The occurrence of jaw manifestations makes it an important diagnostic problem for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and often clinicians encounter this aspect which finally leads to the diagnosis of this syndrome. This paper reports a case of NBCCS and provides an overview on the diagnosis and management of this enigmatic entity.

The objectives in treatment are to effect rapid healing by anatomic reduction and fixation and to restore function and appearance with minimal disability and complications. Traditionally, when open techniques are utilised, the extra-oral approach is performed through a skin incision concealed in the submandibular crease.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcetaminophen, a popular analgesic and antipyretic, has been found to be effective against neuronal cell death in in vivo and in vitro models of neurological disorders. Acute neuronal death has been attributed to loss of mitochondrial permeability transition coupled with mitochondrial dysfunction. The potential impact of acetaminophen on acute injury from cerebral ischemia-reperfusion has not been studied.

Study Design: 30 enamel blocks of 1 mm2 from ten human sound extracted permanent molars were obtained and treated as under: Group 1 (10 blocks): Enamel surface was etched with 37% H3PO4 gel for 15 seconds. Group 2 (10 blocks): Enamel surface was treated with 5.
Background: Cryptococcus neoformans is the most common fungal pathogen to infect the central nervous system, and an effective diagnostic method is therefore necessary for the early diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis.
Aim: The efficacy of India ink preparation, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culture and CSF cryptococcal antigen detection by the latex agglutination test for diagnosis of cryptococcal meningitis are compared to determine the most efficient test.
Materials And Methods: Two hundred CSF samples from human immunodeficiency virus - positive patients suspected to be suffering from meningitis were screened for Cryptococcus neoformans.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate effectiveness and convenience of cryosurgical procedure, to assess the events during postoperative healing and to find out the incidence of recurrence
Materials And Methods: This study was conducted in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, KLESVK Institute of Dental Sciences, Belgaum. The 40 patients selected for the study were divided into 2 groups of 20 patients each irrespective of age and sex. Group I 20 patients with Pre-Malignant Lesions Group II 20 patients with Oral Mucous Cyst
Results: It was observed that all the 20 patients of mucocele were cured without any complication and recurrence, but in 20 patients of leukoplakia 5 patients had recurrence which was directly attributed to their persisting habits.
A case report of a 19-years-old mentally retarded girl, presented with abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting of two days duration. Physical examination revealed abdominal tenderness with guarding and rigidity. Exploratory laparotomy revealed the presence of magnets in the jejunum with perforation of jejunum and a resultant gastro jejunal fistula.

The objective of the current study was to investigate whether acetaminophen could attenuate exogenous H(2)O(2)-mediated myocardial dysfunction in vivo. Respiratory, metabolic, and hemodynamic indices such as left ventricular function (LVDP and +/-dP/dt(max)), and percent ectopy were measured in anesthetized, open-chest dogs during intravenous administration of 0.

The formation of toxic free oxygen radicals has been implicated in obesity mediated disease processes. Leptin is one of the major cytokines produced by adipocytes and controls body weight homeostasis through food intake and energy expenditure.

The model makes use of joint time-frequency analysis (JTFA) for feature extraction and the artificial neural networks (ANN) for training and classification. Multiple ANNs are trained independently on a computer, using the backpropagation conjugate-gradient (CG) method, with input data collected from various flame and non-flame nuisance signals at four different IR wavelengths.

In the present study, we further examined the mechanism of acetaminophen-mediated cardioprotection following ischemia/reperfusion injury. Langendorff-perfused guinea pig hearts were exposed to acute treatment with acetaminophen (0.

Only ventricular arrhythmias defined by the Lambeth Conventions were investigated. Dogs were exposed either to 60 mins of regional myocardial ischemia followed by 180 mins of reperfusion (n = 14) or were administered a high dose of ouabain (n = 14).

A case of long-standing, bilateral dislocation of the temporomandibular joint characterized by anterior open bite, and an inability to close the mouth is reported. A number of conventional modalities were tried unsuccessfully to reduce the dislocated condyle. Subsequently, the patient was successfully treated with bilateral vertical-oblique osteotomy of ramus (external approach) without using internal fixation.

The test most commonly used to detect HCC is the measurement of serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels. However, the AFP test is negative in HCC detection in more than 30% of the cases.

The results of this preliminary study explore the possible role of garlic paste in the treatment of oral candidiasis.

Although elevated AGE levels in patients with renal failure have been attributed to impaired renal clearance and increased endogenous AGE formation, recent data suggest an important role for diet as a source of AGEs.
Methods: To determine the relationship between dietary AGE content and serum AGE levels, a cross-sectional study was performed in our long-term dialysis patients.
Objective: Although hydroxyurea (HU) has been used clinically to treat patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), not all patients benefit from HU treatment due to its toxicity. The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of the use of two new Hb F-inducing nitrosourea analogues, 2-[3-(2-methyl, 2-nitroso) ureido]-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranose (MNGU) and 2-[3-(2-chloroethyl) ureido]-2-deoxy-D-glucopyranose (CGU), in combination with HU in K562 cells or erythroid progenitors.
Materials And Methods: After K562 cells were cultured with different concentrations of HU with CGU or MNGU, aliquots of the cells were obtained to determine the total (benzidine-positive) hemoglobin level, number of F cells, and Hb F level.
1567 clinical samples were obtained for the study; 494 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated (isolation rate of 31.52) and their antibiotic sensitivity patterns tested using Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method. The antibiotic sensitivity testing revealed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains were highly resistant to most anti-pseudomonal antibiotics; Amikacin was found to be most suitable for routine use with a sensitivity of 68.
