The scapholunate interosseous ligament (SLIL) is a frequently torn wrist ligament, and current surgical options for SLIL tears are suboptimal. This research aims to develop a novel multiphasic bone-ligament-bone scaffold (BLB) with a porous interface using 3D-printing and cell sheet technology for the reconstruction of the dorsal scapholunate interosseous ligament. The BLB comprises two bone compartments bridged by aligned polycaprolactone fibers mimicking the architecture of the native tissue.

Objectives: This community-based study explores the syndemic nature of HIV/AIDS risk and resilience among Indigenous Kichwa communities in the province of Imbabura, Ecuador. This study elucidates individual and community-level factors that serve to exacerbate HIV/AIDS risk, as they relate to underlying macrolevel, structural forces. Critically, this study also elicited opportunities for community-based opportunities for resiliency from HIV/AIDS.

Objectives: This study sought to explore clinical characteristics and outcomes in women and men with ambulatory advanced heart failure (HF).

Background: Women have been underrepresented in studies of advanced HF and have an increased mortality on the transplant waiting list and early after mechanical circulatory support (MCS). An increased understanding of the differential burden of HF between women and men is required to inform the use of mechanical circulatory support in ambulatory advanced HF patients.

Introduction: Elevated sound levels in critical care are associated with sleep deprivation and an increased incidence of delirium. We aimed to determine whether a sound-activated visual noise display meter could cause a sustained reduction in sound levels overnight in an adult critical care unit.

Method: Sound levels were recorded overnight for eight days before and after the introduction of a visual noise display meter, with a further eight days recorded four months later after continued use of the visual noise display meter.

Biomimetic synthetic studies on meroterpenoids from the marine sponge Aka coralliphaga: Divergent total syntheses of siphonodictyal B, liphagal and corallidictyals A-D.

The marine sponge Aka coralliphaga is a rich source of biologically active and structurally interesting meroterpenoids. Inspired by these natural products, we have used biosynthetic speculation to devise biomimetic syntheses of siphonodictyal B, liphagal and corallidictyals A-D from sclareolide. This work resulted in the development of new cascade reactions in the synthesis of liphagal, the reassignment of the structure of siphonodictyal B, and the realisation that corallidictyals A and B are possibly isolation artefacts.

Epidemiology of Incarceration: Characterizing Jail Incarceration for Public Health Research.

Background: Each year, 9 million individuals cycle in and out of jails. The under-characterization of incarceration as an exposure poses substantial challenges to understanding how varying levels of exposure to jail may affect health. Thus, we characterized levels of jail incarceration including recidivism, number of incarcerations, total and average number of days incarcerated, and time to reincarceration.

Background: The interaction of audition and cognition has been of interest to researchers and clinicians, especially as the prevalence of hearing loss and cognitive decline increases with advancing age. These assessments are administered verbally, so performance may be adversely affected by hearing loss.

We aimed to compare the lower limb function of children and young people with LFD to that of unaffected peers. A cross-sectional study of Australian children and young people with LFD, and of unaffected peers, was undertaken.

Outstanding radiation resistance of tungsten-based high-entropy alloys.

A body-centered cubic W-based refractory high entropy alloy with outstanding radiation resistance has been developed. The alloy was grown as thin films showing a bimodal grain size distribution in the nanocrystalline and ultrafine regimes and a unique 4-nm lamella-like structure revealed by atom probe tomography (APT). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and x-ray diffraction show certain black spots appearing after thermal annealing at elevated temperatures.

Magnetoelastic Effects in Doubly Clamped Electroplated CoFe Microbeam Resonators.

Magnetostrictive CoFe films are fully suspended to produce free-standing, clamped-clamped, microbeam resonators. A negative or positive shift in the resonant frequency is observed for magnetic fields applied parallel or perpendicular to the length of the beam, respectively, confirming the magnetoelastic nature of the shift. Notably, the resonance shifts linearly with higher-bias fields oriented perpendicular to the beam's length.

Clinical Overlap Between Myopericarditis and Stress Induced Cardiomyopathy: A Diagnostic and Therapeutic Challenge.

BACKGROUND Stress induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is characterized by non-obstructive coronary arteries and characteristic ventricular apical ballooning. The exact pathogenesis of SIC is not well recognized. We present an unusual case of SIC that mimicked acute myopericarditis and discuss the effect of this masquerading presentation of SIC in recognizing pathophysiological association between myopericarditis and SIC and limitations of current diagnostic criteria.

Adolescent Victimization and Self-Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors: A Genetically Sensitive Cohort Study.

Objective: Victimized adolescents have an increased risk of self-injurious thoughts and behaviors. However, poor understanding of causal and non-causal mechanisms underlying this observed risk limits the development of interventions to prevent premature death in adolescents. This study tested whether pre-existing family-wide and individual vulnerabilities account for victimized adolescents' increased risk of self-injurious thoughts and behaviors.

Objectives: To identify factors influencing return for maintenance percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) treatment after successful completion of a 12-week course of treatment for overactive bladder (OAB).

Patients And Methods: Patients with OAB symptoms referred for PTNS treatment underwent 12 sessions of weekly PTNS treatment and were evaluated at baseline and week 12 using the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire on OAB, the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire on lower urinary tract symptom-related quality of life (ICIQ-LUTSqol) and a bladder diary (BD). Responders to treatment, evaluated using two patient-reported outcome measures, were invited to return for maintenance treatment when symptoms returned.

The information, motivation, behavioral Skills (IMB) model was used to identify factors that affect condom use with new sex partners that were met offline or online. Mixed methods data were collected from adults between the ages of 18 and 29 years who reported a new sex partner. A model was composed of participants' IMB scale scores to determine the effect of these variables on condom use.

Effects of Continuing Education Incentives on Clinical Instructors.

Purpose: To research whether the ability to earn continuing education (CE) credit for time spent teaching motivates radiologic science professionals to teach students in clinic and to assess whether sonographers, who earn CE credit for time teaching, have more positive attitudes toward teaching than those in modalities who do not earn CE credit for time spent teaching.

Methods: Researchers developed a 2-track digital survey and delivered it electronically and on paper to clinical instructors working at hospitals affiliated with Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Responses were collected for 2 weeks and then compared quantitatively using chi-square tests and logistic regression models.
