Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the preferred method for treating acute cholecystitis. Although the incidence of postoperative infections in laparoscopic cholecystectomy is low, serious postoperative surgical site infections are still reported. Hepatic abscesses, particularly fungal, can occur post-cholecystectomy leading to significant mortality and morbidity.

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of annexin family (ANXA1 and ANXA2) in periodontal disease.
Methods: Healthy participants (n:25) and stage III, grade B periodontitis (n:25) patients enrolled for this study.
Background: Behçet's disease (BD) pathogenesis involves severe outcomes such as blindness, central nervous system manifestations, and deep venous thrombosis that impacts systemic and local inflammatory changes. We tested the hypothesis that BD negatively affects gingival health and increases the severity of gingivitis.
Methods: The study included 37 BD patients with gingivitis without any sign of periodontitis.
Human beta-defensins are host defense peptides with broad antimicrobial and inflammatory functions. In the oral cavity, these peptides are produced mainly by the keratinocytes of the epithelium; however, fibroblasts, monocytes, and macrophages also contribute to oral human beta-defensin expressions. The resident and immune cells of the oral cavity come into contact with various microbe-associated molecular patterns continuously and simultaneously.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-three patients with stage III/grade B periodontitis and 23 periodontally healthy individuals were included. Clinical periodontal measurements were recorded (plaque index, pocket depth, clinical attachment loss & bleeding on probing).

Background: Traumatic liver injury is an acute event that triggers liver repair. The augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) has been identified as a growth factor involved in this process. This study evaluates the impact of ALR on isolated liver blunt trauma and examines its relationship with various time intervals.

Methods: A total of 68 infants (28-41 Gestational weeks) hospitalised in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit were included in the study. The NIMAS is a scale consisting of Automatic Motor Area, Functional Motor Area and sociodemographic form.
Objectives: 8-Hydroxideoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is a marker of oxidative stress, and Forkhead Box-O1 (FOXO1) is a transcription factor and signaling integrator in cell and tissue homeostasis. This study aims to determine FOXO1 and 8-OHdG levels in serum and saliva samples of periodontitis patients and to evaluate their relationship with clinical periodontal parameters.
Materials And Methods: Twenty healthy individuals, twenty generalized Stage III Grade B periodontitis patients, and nineteen generalized Stage III Grade C periodontitis patients were included in the study.
Objectives: We tested the hypothesis that Parkinson's disease (PA) alters the periodontitis-associated oral microbiome.
Method: Patients with periodontitis with Parkinson's disease (PA+P) and without PA (P) and systemically and periodontally healthy individuals (HC) were enrolled. Clinical, periodontal and neurological parameters were recorded.
Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate whether the measurement of mean optic nerve sheath diameter in patients with transient ischemic attack could be used to distinguish between control groups, the acute ischemic stroke group, and subgroups within the acute ischemic stroke category.
Methods: Retrospectively, the mean optic nerve sheath diameters of patients aged 18 years and older belonging to control, transient ischemic attack, acute ischemic stroke, and subgroups within the acute ischemic stroke category were measured with initial computed tomography conducted in the emergency department.
Results: Out of the 773 patients included in the study, 318 (41.

Although the Antarctic lakes are of great importance for the climate and the carbon cycle, the lithological influences on the input of elements that are necessary for phytoplankton in lakes have so far been insufficiently investigated. To address this issue, we analyzed phytoplankton cell concentrations and chemical compositions of water samples from lakes, ponds and a stream on Fildes and Ardley Islands of King George Island in the South Shetland Archipelago. Furthermore, lake sediments, as well as soil and rock samples collected from the littoral zone were analyzed for their mineralogical/petrographic composition and pollutant contents of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Objective: Sirtuin6 plays an important role in the regulation of inflammation, homeostasis, and apoptosis, and it has anti-inflammatory effects on several diseases. Lipoxin A4 is a pro-resolving lipid mediator of inflammation and inhibits hypoxia-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress. Considering that Lipoxin A4 and Sirtuin6 have protective effects on inflammatory diseases, the aim of this study is to determine the possible roles of these molecules on periodontitis inflammation in saliva and serum and to reveal the relationship of these data with clinical periodontal parameters.

Materials And Methods: Clinical periodontal parameters were recorded. Subgingival samples from healthy controls, periodontitis patients (PD), and Parkinson's patients with periodontitis (PA+PD) were analyzed using the checkerboard DNA-DNA hybridization technique for targeting 40 bacterial species typically associated with periodontal disease and health.
Background: Testicular torsion causes ischemic injury, and torsion causes reperfusion injury.
Aim: Evaluating the role of augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) in testicular ischemia and ischemia/reperfusion injury.
Materials And Method(s): Seventy-eight (78) healthy Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into four groups; control (C) (n = 6), sham (S) (n = 24), torsion (T) (n = 24), and torsion/detorsion (T/D) (n = 24).
Pancreatic schwannomas are rare benign tumors with low malignant potential and are often difficult to diagnose due to their non-specific presenting symptoms and overlapping radiological imaging characteristics. Cross-sectional imaging plays an important role in the initial diagnosis and in delineating the extent of the lesion. However, biopsy and histopathological examination remains the gold-standard for a definite diagnosis.

Background: It has been shown that the tryptophan amino acid's primary catabolic pathway, the kynurenine pathway (KP), may serve as a key biomarker for periodontal disease. Although there are studies investigating the effect of smoking on KYN-TRP metabolism, the effect of smoking on periodontal disease through KP has not been revealed so far.
Background: Parkinson's disease (PA) affects 1% of the global population above 60 years. PA pathogenesis involves severe neuroinflammation that impacts systemic and local inflammatory changes. We tested the hypothesis that PA is associated with periodontal tissue inflammation promoting a greater systemic inflammatory burden.

Cholinesterases catalyze the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (ACh), a naturally occurring neurotransmitter, into choline and acetic acid, allowing the nervous system to function properly. In the human body, cholinesterases come in two types, including acetylcholinesterase (AChE; E.C.
