This study investigates disruptions in functional brain networks in Parkinson's Disease (PD), using advanced modeling and machine learning. Functional networks were constructed using the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model, which captures nonlinear and asymmetric dependencies between regions of interest (ROIs). Key network metrics and information-theoretic measures were extracted to classify PD patients and healthy controls (HC), using deep learning models, with explainability methods employed to identify influential features.

Invasive Aspergillosis with Cavernous Sinus Thrombosis Following High-Dose Corticosteroid Therapy: A Challenging Case of Rhino-Orbital-Cerebral Mycosis.

Invasive aspergillosis is a rare but severe fungal infection primarily affecting immunocompromised individuals. The Disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has introduced new complexities in managing aspergillosis due to the widespread use of corticosteroids for treating COVID-19-related respiratory distress, which can increase susceptibility to fungal infections. Here, we present a challenging case of progressive cerebral aspergillosis complicated by cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST) in a 67-year-old male with a history of COVID-19.

Oxidative damage and mitochondrial dysfunction in cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency.

Cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD) is the most prevalent inherited disorder of homocysteine metabolism in the transsulphuration pathway. Research have suggested oxidative stress and inflammation as candidate pathogenic mechanisms in CBSD. This study aims to evaluate mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress biomarkers in cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency (CBSD) patients, which may aid in understanding the pathogenesis of CBSD and improving treatment.

Variable clinical phenotypes of alpha-methylacyl-CoA racemase deficiency: Report of four cases and review of the literature.

Alpha-methylacyl-CoA-racemase (AMACR) deficiency (MIM#604489) is a peroxisomal disorder resulting in the accumulation of pristanic acid, dihydroxycholestanoic acid (DHCA), and trihydroxycholestanoic acid (THCA), with variable clinical features and age of onset from infancy to late adulthood. The purpose of this report is to define clinical variations and follow-up data in AMACR deficiency emphasizing treatment with a review of cases reported in the literature. Here, four patients, from two families, diagnosed with AMACR deficiency and showing phenotypic heterogeneity are presented.

Challenging Childhood Obesity: The Influence of Education and Close Monitoring on Obesity-Related Behaviors.

Background: We aimed to evaluate the role of nutrition and behavior education intervention in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity by comparing changes in obesity-related characteristics among obese children during a follow-up period of 12 months.

Methods: This study was designed as a prospective cohort study in children aged between 6 and 18 years, with exogenous obesity who applied to Istanbul Research and Training Hospital, Pediatrics Department, between January 2018 and July 2019. Beginning at the sixth month, a program for nutrition and behavior education for obesity prevention and treatment was initiated and continued during the second half of the study period.

Experiences of mothers caring for children with rare diseases in Turkey.

Rare diseases (RDs), important for children and families, have been poorly studied in Turkey. This study aimed to describe the experiences and needs of mothers whose children have RDs from the perspectives of their mothers. In-depth interviews were held with the mothers of 16 children followed up in the Pediatric Nutrition and Metabolism Outpatient Clinic of a University Hospital.

Clustering Molecules at a Large Scale: Integrating Spectral Geometry with Deep Learning.

This study conducts an in-depth analysis of clustering small molecules using spectral geometry and deep learning techniques. We applied a spectral geometric approach to convert molecular structures into triangulated meshes and used the Laplace-Beltrami operator to derive significant geometric features. By examining the eigenvectors of these operators, we captured the intrinsic geometric properties of the molecules, aiding their classification and clustering.

Effect of web-based education intervention on blood glucose control, self-care and quality of life in patients with type 2 diabetes: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial.

Methods: A single-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted in accordance with the Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) checklist at a university hospital in Turkey. The study included 89 patients with type 2 diabetes who were randomly divided into an intervention group (44) and a control group (45).

Patients' Perspective On The Inclusion Of Intraoral Scanners In Routine Examination: A Clinical Perception Study.

Purpose: Is to investigate how integrating intraoral scanners in routine oral diagnosis affects patient-clinician communication, patient perceptions and preferences, offering valuable insights into the patient experience and utility of intraoral scanners in clinical practice.

Biotinidase deficiency (BTD) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by impaired recycling of the water-soluble vitamin biotin which leads to a spectrum of clinical manifestations ranging from mild to severe, including mainly neurological and cutaneous symptoms. Biotin supplementation is a cornerstone of treatment, but diagnosis often relies on measuring serum enzyme activity, which needs to be confirmed by genetic analysis. Thus, molecular methods become necessary in the differential diagnosis of BTD.

Network Models of BACE-1 Inhibitors: Exploring Structural and Biochemical Relationships.

This study investigates the clustering patterns of human β-secretase 1 (BACE-1) inhibitors using complex network methodologies based on various distance functions, including Euclidean, Tanimoto, Hamming, and Levenshtein distances. Molecular descriptor vectors such as molecular mass, Merck Molecular Force Field (MMFF) energy, Crippen partition coefficient (ClogP), Crippen molar refractivity (MR), eccentricity, Kappa indices, Synthetic Accessibility Score, Topological Polar Surface Area (TPSA), and 2D/3D autocorrelation entropies are employed to capture the diverse properties of these inhibitors. The Euclidean distance network demonstrates the most reliable clustering results, with strong agreement metrics and minimal information loss, indicating its robustness in capturing essential structural and physicochemical properties.

The relationship between imaging-based body composition parameters and disease prognosis in patients with endometrial cancer.

Background: Obesity is known as a risk factor for endometrial cancer (EC). Only a few studies investigate the relationship between sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity and EC.
