Objective: Although an International Workshop has suggested that cardiovascular assessment in asymptomatic primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) patients is not necessary, improvements in risk factors of subclinical atherosclerosis have been shown following parathyroidectomy. The objectives of this study were to determine whether parathyroidectomy in asymptomatic PHPT patients causes any change in carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), arterial stiffness [pulse wave velocity (PWV)] and soluble CD40 ligand (sCD40L) levels.

Design: Prospective study evaluating female patients diagnosed with asymptomatic PHPT in a single centre over a 6-month period.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the accuracy of three algorithms in predicting accessory pathway locations in adult patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome in Turkish population.

Methods: A total of 207 adult patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome were retrospectively analyzed. The most preexcited 12-lead electrocardiogram in sinus rhythm was used for analysis.

We report a case of primary acquired corneal melanosis without atypia associated with corneal haze in a patient with a history of limbal malignant melanoma and the effect of mitomycin-C. A 75-year-old woman with a history of limbal malignant melanoma presented with loss of vision in right eye. Corneal examination showed a patchy melanotic pigmentation with a central haze.

Introduction: Patients with heart failure (HF) and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) may misunderstand the indication of ICDs due to unsatisfactory information. The goal of this study is to evaluate the patient perspective of ICD indication and its relation to quality of life, as well as to identify probable communication gaps between doctors and ICD receivers.

Methods: A total of 119 patients with HF who were implanted with a single-chamber ICD were evaluated in outpatient clinics.

Objectives: Adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) is a rare disease that is classified among the multifactorial autoinflammatory disorders. It is characterised by fever, arthritis and, a typical salmon-coloured rash, and is accompanied by fever at nights. Currently, there is limited data on the prevalence of AOSD.

Objectives: We evaluated the effect of lifestyle modifications and glycemic control on the efficiency of sildenafil citrate in patients with type-2 diabetes (T2DM) and erectile dysfunction (ED).

Methods: Eighty-three men with ED due to T2DM were included in the study. The Group 1 (n = 41) patients received lifestyle modifications (diet and exercise), and medical treatment for intensive glycemic control.

Background: In many cardiovascular diseases (CVD), white blood cell counts with differentials are used to predict adverse events. Both platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are studied in various CVDs.

Aim: The role of inflammatory condition assessed using routine laboratory tests in cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) response has not been investigated thoroughly.

Purpose: Thoracolumbar junction burst fractures remain a challenging problem due to controversy over the treatment choice of short- or long-segment posterior fixation. The aim of the present study was to compare life quality and sexual function of patients after short- and long-segment posterior fixations in the treatment of thoracolumbar junction burst fractures.

Methods: In this prospective, randomized study, 24 sexually active male patients diagnosed with thoracolumbar junction burst fractures were randomly assigned to either the short-segment posterior fixation (SSPF) group or the long-segment posterior fixation group (LLPF).

Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and microbiological status of the foreskin in asymptomatic prepubertal boys.

Methods: A total of 100 prepubertal healthy boys who underwent a standard circumcision procedure were included in the study. High-risk HPV status was determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction for the genotypes 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66, and 68.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between bladder wall thickness (BWT) and uroflowmetric parameters and the International Prostate Symptoms Score (IPSS) in patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).

Patients And Methods: A total of 236 male patients who had LUTS-related benign prostatic enlargement with serum prostate-specific antigen level ≤4 ng/mL were included in this study. Age and duration of LUTS and IPSS were recorded.

Various N-propargylpyrrole and indolecarboxylic acids were efficiently converted into 3,4-dihydropyrrolo- and indolo-oxazin-1-one derivatives by a gold(III)-catalyzed cyclization reaction. Some of the products underwent TFA-catalyzed double bond isomerization and some did not. Cyclization reactions in the presence of alcohol catalyzed by Au(I) resulted in the formation of hemiacetals after cascade reactions.

We investigated the relationship between epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and infarct-related artery (IRA) patency before mechanical reperfusion in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Patients (n = 640) were divided into 2 groups based on the thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow grade. Impaired flow was defined as TIMI grades 0, 1, and 2, and normal flow was defined as TIMI 3.

The gold-catalyzed reaction of pyrrole and indole oximes having a propargyl group attached to the nitrogen atom was studied. The selective 6-endo-dig mode of cyclization was observed for the terminal alkynes giving rise to the formation of pyrazine N-oxides in the presence of a gold catalyst. However, the reaction with substituted alkyne transferred the oxime functionality intramolecularly from one carbon atom to another via the 7-endo-dig cyclization process.

Objectives: The presence of notches in the biventricular paced QRS complex (BiP-QRS) from the posterolateral cardiac vein displays delays in the activation of the left ventricle and may consequently be linked with longer times of stimulus conduction. Our objective was to determine the relationship between the notch duration ≥ 0.1 mV in the BiP-QRS and the effectiveness of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
