Background: In the context of the cytokine storm the takes place in severe COVID-19 patients, the () pathway emerges as one of the key pathways involved in the pathogenesis of this hyperinflammatory state. The strategy of blocking the inflammatory storm by targeting the is a promising therapy to mitigate mortality. The use of Tocilizumab was recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) to treat severe COVID-19 patients.

Objectives: To evaluate the role of BD as a predictor of patients' survival and assess its prognostic value in relation to overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), melanoma-specific survival (MSS) and metastasis-free survival (MFS).
Methods: A retrospective observational study in a cohort of 107 patients with invasive melanoma was conducted.
To delineate the phenotype of erosive hand osteoarthritis (EHOA) in a Spanish population and assess its correlation with metabolic syndrome. We conducted a cross-sectional study using baseline data from the Prospective Cohort of Osteoarthritis from A Coruña (PROCOAC). Demographic and clinical variables, obtained through questionnaires, clinical examinations, and patient analytics, were compared among individuals with hand OA, with and without EHOA.

Methods: Retrospective observational cohort study, including preterm newborns ≤32 weeks gestational age, conducted between January 1, 2013 and September 30, 2022 in a third-level Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Spain. A prediction study was carried out using competing risk models, where the event of interest was BPD and the competing event was death.
Objective: To investigate genetic interactions between mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA) haplogroups and nuclear single nucleotide polymorphisms (nSNPs) to analyze their impact on the development of the rapid progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA).
Design: A total of 1095 subjects from the Osteoarthritis Initiative, with a follow-up time of at least 48-months, were included. Appropriate statistical approaches were performed, including generalized estimating equations adjusting for age, gender, body mass index, contralateral knee OA, Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index pain, previous injury in target knee and the presence of the mtDNA variant m.
Objective: Early diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis (KOA) in asymptomatic stages is essential for the timely management of patients using preventative strategies. We develop and validate a prognostic model useful for predicting the incidence of radiographic KOA (rKOA) in non-radiographic osteoarthritic subjects and stratify individuals at high risk of developing the disease.
Methods: Subjects without radiographic signs of KOA according to the Kellgren and Lawrence (KL) classification scale (KL=0 in both knees) were enrolled in the OA initiative (OAI) cohort and the Prospective Cohort of A Coruña (PROCOAC).
Aim: To investigate the usefulness of multistate models (MSM) for determining colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence rate, to analyse the effect of different factors on tumour recurrence and death, and to assess the impact of recurrence for CRC prognosis.
Methods: Observational follow-up study of incident CRC cases disease-free after curative resection in 2006-2013 (n = 994). Recurrence and mortality were analyzed with MSM, as well as covariate effects on transition probabilities.

Although several studies show the prevalence of podiatric conditions in people with end-stage renal disease or renal replacement therapy with hemodialysis, there is little scientific literature on this when subjects are undergoing kidney transplantation. The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of podiatric skin and nail pathology in renal transplant recipients. A descriptive, observational, prevalence study was conducted at the Nephrology Department of the University Hospital of A Coruña.

This study aims to analyze the surgical complications and bleeding events presented in ABO-incompatible (ABOi) and HLA-incompatible (HLAi) patients within a pre-transplant desensitization program compared with ABO-compatible (ABOc) recipients.
Material And Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of ABOi and HLAi recipients undergoing LKDT between 2009 and 2019, resulting in a total of 62 patients that we compared with the same number of ABOc performed consecutively before 2019.
Objectives: To identify mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) genetic variants associated with the risk of rapid progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA) and to characterise their functional significance using a cellular model of transmitochondrial cybrids.
Methods: Three prospective cohorts contributed participants. The osteoarthritis initiative (OAI) included 1095 subjects, the Cohort Hip and Cohort Knee included 373 and 326 came from the PROspective Cohort of Osteoarthritis from A Coruña.

Background: MAFLD is the most common cause of chronic liver disease, affecting 25% of the global population. Patients with T2DM have an increased risk of developing MAFLD. In addition, patients with T2DM have a higher risk of advanced forms of steatohepatitis and fibrosis.

Therefore, this study aims to describe the characteristics of the casuistry of COVID-19 in health and social-health workers in the health area of A Coruña and Cee during the first epidemic wave, as well as to determine the association between the clinical profile and/or its duration and the condition of RT-PCR repositivization.
Materials And Methods: During the study period, 210 cases belonging to healthcare and social-healthcare workers from the healthcare area of A Coruña and Cee were diagnosed.
To evaluate the influence of mitochondrial DNA haplogroups on the risk of knee OA in terms of their interaction with obesity, in a population from Mexico. Samples were obtained from (n = 353) knee OA patients (KL grade ≥ I) and (n = 364) healthy controls (KL grade = 0) from Mexico city and Torreon (Mexico). Both Caucasian and Amerindian mtDNA haplogroups were assigned by single base extension assay.

Method: This was an open, randomised, crossover trial for 25 days. After this first study period and a 5-day wash-out period, treatments were switched for another 25 days.
Objectives: Determine the concordance between two methods of obtaining the plantar footprint (pedigraph and pressure platform).
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional, observational study of prevalence was carried out in the social center of Cariño (Coruña), Spain ( 65 participants). Older people without amputations or the presence of dysmetria were included.

Unlabelled: Elvitegravir/cobicistat/emtricitabine/tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (EVG/c/FTC/TAF) and dolutegravir/abacavir/lamivudine (DTG/ABC/3TC) are currently available for HIV patients.
Objectives: This study evaluated modifications in the renal safety profile in a large real-world cohort of patients who had received EVG/c/FTC/TAF or DTG/ABC/3TC.
Methods: A retrospective observational study of HIV-infected patients who received EVG/c/FTC/TAF or DTG/ABC/3TC between March 2015 and June 2019 at a reference hospital in north-western Spain was conducted.
Objective: To analyze the incidence and characteristics of traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) in geriatric population of Galicia (Spain), hospital management and functional prognosis METHODS: Comparative retrospective study. Patients admitted with acute traumatic SCI during the time period between January 2010 and December 2016 were included. Two groups established: The elderly over and under 75 years of age, with the latter acting as a control group.

Method: Baseline sera from 333 non-radiographic KOA subjects belonging to OA Initiative (OAI) who developed or not, rKOA during a follow-up period of 96 months were used in this study. The exploratory cohort included 200 subjects, whereas the replication cohort included 133.
Background: The measures used for the diagnosis of biomechanical pathologic disorders are variable. The aim of this study was to determine the concordance between the Clarke angle and the Chippaux-Smirak and Staheli indices in evaluation of the footprints of kidney transplant patients.
Methods: An observational prevalence study was performed in kidney transplant patients in the University Hospital Complex A Coruña from 1981 through 2014.
