Objectives: Self-collected vaginal swabs can facilitate diagnosis of vaginal discharge (VD) in resource-limited settings, provided reliability of the method is established. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concordance between self-collected and physician-collected vaginal swabs for aetiological diagnosis of VD and to determine the prevalence of bacterial vaginosis (BV), vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) and trichomonas vaginitis (TV).

Methods: A total of 550 females (median age: 32 years; range: 18-45 years) attending two sexually transmitted infection/reproductive tract infection (STI/RTI) clinics with VD from January 2015 to May 2016 were included in the study after obtaining written informed consent.

Background: Timing and adequacy of peritoneal source control are the most important pillars in the management of patients with acute peritonitis. Therefore, early prognostic evaluation of acute peritonitis is paramount to assess the severity and establish a prompt and appropriate treatment. The objectives of this study were to identify clinical and laboratory predictors for in-hospital mortality in patients with acute peritonitis and to develop a warning score system, based on easily recognizable and assessable variables, globally accepted.

The thermal spike model (TSM), a widely accepted mechanism of swift heavy ion (SHI)-matter interactions, provides explanation for various SHI induced effects, including mixing across interfaces. We assess the validity of the model via tuning the electron-phonon coupling strength (G) by taking a series PdNi of a completely solid soluble binary, and then observing PdNi/Si interface mixing induced by a combination of 100 MeV Au ion irradiation and 4 keV Ar ion sputtering. If the TSM truly describes the SHI-matter interaction mechanism, any non-linearity in x-variation of G must also result in a similar non-linearity in the x-dependence of mixing.

Background: The liver is affected by two of the most common groups of malignant tumours: primary liver tumours and liver metastases from colorectal carcinoma. Liver metastases are significantly more common than primary liver cancer and long-term survival rates reported for patients after radical surgical treatment is approximately 50%. However, R0 resection (resection for cure) is not feasible in the majority of patients.

Background And Objectives: Trauma is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the pediatric population. In many centers, microhematuria is used as a screening tool for the presence of significant abdominal injury and as an indication for further imaging. Our objective was to evaluate the role of microhematuria by dipstick as an indicator of significant abdominal injury in children.

Background: According to the report published by the National Chamber of Physicians, currently the guideline development process in Poland is not coordinated and there is no document setting the standards for the process or methods of guideline production in Poland or institution assessing guideline quality on a regular basis. We postulated that adaptation of good-quality guidelines can improve the quality of the guidelines available and serve as a first step in translating evidence into practice by making physicians aware of the evidence.

Aims: To discuss methodological challenges and lessons learned during the project lead by the National Chamber of Physicians regarding guideline adaptation in Poland as a first step in evidence implementation.

Background: In extremity vascular trauma, early complications occur at a rate of 13% to 44%. The most common of which are infection, dehiscence, thrombosis, and stenosis. Failure of the arterial repair, also called arterial blowout, has the potential for exsanguinating hemorrhage and poses a considerable challenge for the surgeon to save limb and life.

Background & Aims: Recently, a parameter called "Fragility index" (FI) has been proposed, which measures how many events the statistical significance relies on. The lower the FI the more "fragile" the results, and thus more care should be taken when interpreting the results. Our aim in this study was to check FI of nutritional trials.

Study Objective: The latest wave of terrorism worldwide has seen significant use by terrorists of mundane, "low-technology" weapons, such as utility knives and civilian vehicles. How do the injuries they produce compare with that of more conventional terrorism mechanisms, such as use of firearms and explosives? We compare injury patterns of the most frequent terrorism-related injury mechanisms in an Israeli data set.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of 1,858 patients hospitalized because of terrorism events, which were recorded in the Israeli National Trauma Registry between January 1997 and December 2016.
