Obturator schwannomas are rare and often misdiagnosed as intraperitoneal pelvic masses. The optimal surgical approach for their resection is unclear. This study presents a case demonstrating the safe use of robotics for resecting a benign pelvic schwannoma and reviews the literature on robotic cases.

LTβR deficiency causes lymph node aplasia and impaired B cell differentiation.

Secondary lymphoid organs (SLOs) provide the confined microenvironment required for stromal cells to interact with immune cells to initiate adaptive immune responses resulting in B cell differentiation. Here, we studied three patients from two families with functional hyposplenism, absence of tonsils, and complete lymph node aplasia, leading to recurrent bacterial and viral infections. The construction of complex systems by simple chemicals that can display emergent network dynamics might contribute to our understanding of complex behavior from simple organic reactions. Here we design single amino acid/dipeptide-based systems that exhibit multiple periodic changes of (dis)assembly under non-equilibrium conditions in closed system, importantly in the absence of evolved biocatalysts. The two-component based building block exploits pH driven non-covalent assembly and time-delayed accelerated catalysis from self-assembled state to install orthogonal feedback loops with a single batch of reactants.

Background: We planned this study considering that complications of deep neck infections can be seriously life threatening.

Aim: To raise awareness that introthoracic complications and necrotizing fasciitis are causes of serious mortality and morbidity.

Methods: This study was carried out with the participation of 188 patients who were treated at Mersin University Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at January 1, 2024.

Changes in Smoking Patterns in Turkey Before and After the Ban on Loose Cigarettes: An Ecological Perspective From Global Tobacco Surveillance Data.

Introduction: Loose or individual cigarettes sold without packaging pose a unique challenge for tobacco control, which is the leading cause of premature and preventable mortality worldwide. This study aims to assess the changes in smoking patterns following the ban on loose cigarettes in 2008 in Turkey.

Method: Gender-stratified trend analysis of smoking patterns before and after the ban on loose cigarettes was done using the Global Tobacco Surveillance data (adults: Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) 2008, 2012, and 2016; youth: Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) 2003, 2005, 2009, 2012, and 2017) from Turkey.

Concurrent Diagnosis of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and Plasma Cell Myeloma: Report of 2 Cases and Differential Diagnostic Considerations.

BACKGROUND Simultaneous occurrence of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and plasma cell myeloma (PCM) is an uncommon hematological condition, with most patients presenting in late adult life. When these diagnoses occur concurrently, it often poses diagnostic challenges to the pathologist, with other important differential diagnoses including lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma, marginal-zone lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia with plasmacytoid differentiation. Ancillary studies are indispensable in arriving at a reliable diagnosis in this clinical scenario.

Leptospirosis and melioidosis coinfection presenting as acute respiratory distress syndrome and osteomyelitis: Case report and systematic review.

Introduction: Leptospirosis and melioidosis are common in tropical and temperate climates and can be acquired by exposure to contaminated water and soil. However, concomitant leptospirosis and melioidosis infection is rarely described in the literature. We report a case of leptospirosis-melioidosis coinfection and systematically review the literature.

Cryptic female choice in response to male pheromones in Drosophila melanogaster.

Females control the paternity of their offspring by selectively mating with males they perceive to be of high quality. In species where females mate with multiple males in succession, females may bias offspring paternity by favoring the sperm of one male over another, a process known as cryptic female choice. While evidence of cryptic female choice exists in multiple taxa, the mechanisms underlying this process have remained difficult to unravel.

Introduction: Several frailty assessment tools exist for classifying older adults with multiple myeloma (MM) by their frailty status, such as the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) frailty score and the simplified frailty scale. The level of agreement between the IMWG frailty score and the simplified frailty scale remains unknown.

Materials And Methods: In a cross-sectional analysis of a prospective cohort study, we identified adults ≥50y initiating a new treatment regimen for MM who underwent a baseline geriatric assessment (GA).

Effects of virtual reality and nature sounds on pain and anxiety during hysterosalpingography: a randomized controlled trial.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the effects of listening to nature sounds alone and virtual reality plus listening to nature sounds on pain and anxiety in hysterosalpingography.

Methods: This three-arm parallel randomized controlled trial included 135 (45 in each group) women who underwent hysterosalpingography in Turkey. The virtual reality+nature sounds group viewed a nature video with virtual reality glasses and listened to nature sounds during hysterosalpingography, whereas the nature sounds group only listened to nature sounds.

Complementary, supportive and traditional practice experiences of infertile women in Türkiye: a qualitative study.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the complementary, supportive and traditional (CST) practices used by infertile women and their attitudes toward these practices.

Methods: In this qualitative study, data were collected through individual interviews using a semi-structured form in December 2021.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of telecounseling support on depression in primiparous mothers. This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial with a parallel group pretest-posttest design.

Hospital Associated Disability among Older Adults with Plasma Cell Disorders Receiving Autologous Stem Cell Transplant.

Increasing number of older adults with Plasma Cell Disorders (PCDs) are receiving autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) in the US. Hospital associated disability (HAD) is a common complication associated with acute care hospitalization among older adults. To estimate the prevalence and prognostic significance of HAD among older adults with MM undergoing ASCT.

Anthropometric traits and risk of multiple myeloma: differences by race, sex and diagnostic clinical features.

Background: Obesity is an established modifiable risk factor for multiple myeloma (MM). However, associations of obesity and MM risk in Black populations, for whom obesity and MM are more common, is less clear.

Methods: Using participants enrolled in the Integrative Molecular And Genetic Epidemiology study, we evaluated the association of anthropometric traits with MM risk overall, stratified by race and sex.

Prospective Assessment of Adjuvant Netarsudil Use in Patients Undergoing Descemet Stripping Only.

Purpose: We sought to determine whether adjuvant use of netarsudil improves corneal clearance rate and regeneration of corneal endothelial cells in patients undergoing Descemet stripping only (DSO).

Methods: We conducted a prospective assessment on the use of adjuvant netarsudil in 50 eyes from 25 patients undergoing DSO at Massachusetts Eye and Ear between May 2021 and May 2023. Our comparison group was a retrospective cohort of patients (23 eyes from 15 patients) who previously underwent DSO without the use of a postoperative rho-kinase inhibitor between September 2014 and March 2020.

Daratumumab-based quadruplet therapy for transplant-eligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma with high cytogenetic risk.

Rapamycin Controls Lymphoproliferation and Reverses T-Cell Responses in a Patient with a Novel STIM1 Loss-of-Function Deletion.
