The paper is concerned with the analysis of the results of sonographically guided biopsy of hepatic tumors which had been carried out in 30 outpatients suffering primary cancer of the liver (3 cases), metastases (16), lymphosarcoma (2), cysts (2), adenoma (2), hemangioma (4) and hydatidiform mole (1 patient). The sensitivity of the method in tumor diagnosis was 89%, specificity--80%. Ultrasonographic features of the liver pathologies were studied versus morphologic type.

Ultrasonic tomography, computed tomography and angiography were performed in all the patients before and after medication. The findings on the efficacy of polychemotherapy were assessed on the basis of surgical evidence and, in particular, resected material examination.

In application of the said procedure, the topography and size of primary and disseminated tumors were ascertained and the immediate effect of medication assessed. The results of ultrasonic tomography were analysed in combination with other methods of research.

It helps in more exact definition of tumours topography and distribution for better planning of their irradiation. Diagnostic accuracy at the combined thermographic and radioisotope investigations was proved on 153 women with mammary gland diseases and on 77 women with soft tissue damage.
