Corneal allograft surgery remains the most commonly used treatment, but does not succeed long term in every patient, and the odds of success fall with each repeated graft. Objective: Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) transports vitamin A (Retinol) in the blood and contributes mechanistically to the linkage between obesity, insulin resistance and associated comorbidities including type 2 diabetes mellitus, coronary artery and neoplastic diseases. Circulating RBP4 levels have variably been associated with body mass and gender differences. Many of these differences have been demonstrated after limited dietary interventions, and/or at single unique time points.

Background And Aims: Post-dural puncture headache (PDPH) is one of the complications following spinal anaesthesia (SA) and accidental dural puncture (ADP). In our institute, we routinely practice epidural analgesia (EA) for supra-major surgeries. Our previous audit on EA revealed 4% incidence of ADP.

In-silico approach for drug induced liver injury prediction: Recent advances.

Drug induced liver injury (DILI) is the prime cause of liver disfunction which may lead to mild non-specific symptoms to more severe signs like hepatitis, cholestasis, cirrhosis and jaundice. Not only the prescription medications, but the consumption of herbs and health supplements have also been reported to cause these adverse reactions resulting into high mortality rates and post marketing withdrawal of drugs. Due to the continuously increasing DILI incidences in recent years, robust prediction methods with high accuracy, specificity and sensitivity are of priority.

Bacterial profile and antibiogram of blood stream infections in febrile neutropenic patients with haematological malignancies.

Introduction: Studies have shown a shift in the prevalence from Gram-positive to Gram-negative bacteraemia in patients with haematological malignancies who develop febrile neutropenia. There are also reports on the spread of drug resistant bacteria among these patients. Information about locally prevalent bacteria and their resistance is important to guide empirical therapy.

Emergence of Azole-Resistant Aspergillus fumigatus from Immunocompromised Hosts in India.

This prospective study shows that the rate of azole-resistant (ARAF) in an immunocompromised Indian patient population with invasive aspergillosis (IA) is low, 6/706 (0.8%). This low rate supports the continued use of voriconazole as the first line of treatment.

Recent studies have demonstrated that aberrant sister chromatid cohesion causes genomic instability and hence is responsible for the development of a tumor. The Chl1 (chromosome loss 1) protein (homolog of human ChlRl/DDX11 helicase) plays an essential role in the proper segregation of chromosomes during mitosis. The helicase activity of Chl1 is critical for sister chromatid cohesion.

Impact of Pyrolysis Temperature and Feedstock on Surface Charge and Functional Group Chemistry of Biochars.

The capacity of biochars to adsorb ionic contaminants is strongly influenced by biochar surface chemistry. We studied the effects of biomass feedstock type, pyrolysis temperature, reaction media pH, and AlCl pre-pyrolysis feedstock treatments on biochar anion exchange capacity (AEC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), point of zero net charge (PZNC), and point of zero salt effect (PZSE). We used the relationship between PZNC and PZSE to probe biochar surfaces for the presence of unstable (hydrolyzable) surface charge functional groups.
