Introduction/objectives: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory rheumatism belonging to the spondyloarthritis family. It is a multifactorial disease whose genetic determinism is still poorly understood. It is favored by environmental factors in genetically predisposed individuals.

Mavacamten, the first drug in the class of β-cardiac myosin modulator, is used for the treatment of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This orally administered drug demonstrates wide interpatient variability in pharmacokinetics parameters, due in part to variant CYP2C19 alleles. Individuals who are CYP2C19 poor metabolizers have increased exposure and are at increased risk of reduced cardiac hypercontractility.

This study introduces a novel wearable Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU)-based system for an objective and comprehensive assessment of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs), thus enhancing workplace safety. The system integrates wearable technology with a user-friendly interface, providing magnetometer-free orientation estimation, joint angle measurements, and WMSDs risk evaluation. Tested in a cable manufacturing facility, the system was evaluated with ten female employees.

Article Synopsis
  • Aminoglycosides can cause nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity, which can be monitored, but genetic predispositions related to the MT-RNR1 gene can heighten the risk of ototoxicity from the first dose.* -
  • The Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium (CPIC) and the Francophone Pharmacogenetics Network (RNPGx) provide recommendations on genetic testing for variants of the MT-RNR1 gene that affect ototoxicity, emphasizing the need for thorough screening if aminoglycoside treatment can be delayed.* -
  • RNPGx recommends testing for specific MT-RNR1 variants before administering aminoglycosides, but acknowledges the challenge of conducting these tests quickly in urgent situations, and

Although Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are well-tolerated, their long-term use may be associated with decreased bone mass. This is a case-control study including patients treated with PPIs (>1 year) and control subjects who have not received PPIs treatment. A total of 90 patients and 90 matched controls were included.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of foot involvement in psoriatic arthritis and to describe its different clinical and radiological features.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a cross sectional study including 40 patients with psoriatic arthritis over a period of 12 months. Anamnesis, clinical examination of feet, podoscopic examination, X-rays of feet and heels, and ultrasound in B mode and power Doppler mode were done for each patient.

Background: Occult cystobiliary fistula (CBF) is a common complication of hepatic hydatid cyst (HHC). It is often the cause of high morbidity of conservative treatment of HHC. This study aimed to determine the predictive factors of occult CBF to establish the indications for the investigation and treatment of these CBFs.

Background: Despite the existing evidence that waist circumference (WC) provides independent and additive information to BMI when predicting morbidity and mortality, this measurement is not routinely obtained in clinical practice. Using computed tomography (CT) scan images, mobile health (mHealth) has the potential to make this abdominal obesity parameter easily available even in retrospective studies.

Objective: This study aimed to develop a mobile app as a tool for facilitating the measurement of WC based on a cross-sectional CT image.

In general, phosphate cements have a very rapid setting reaction at room temperature. The same holds for copper slag-based phosphate cements. This means that using them as a binder, for instance as mortar, is always possible on a small scale, but very difficult on a large scale.

Background: Pharmacokinetic models are evaluated using three types of metrics: those based on estimating the typical pharmacokinetic parameters, those based on predicting individual pharmacokinetic parameters and those that compare data and model distributions. In the third groups of metrics, the best-known methods are Visual Predictive Check (VPC) and Normalised Prediction Distribution Error (NPDE). Despite their usefulness, these methods have some limitations, especially for the analysis of dependent concentrations, i.

Objectives: We aimed to assess the performance of the Novodiag Stool Parasites (NSP) assay in the diagnosis of the most common intestinal protozoan and microsporidia infections.

Methods: A panel of 167 selected stool samples was retrospectively analysed with the NSP assay and compared to routine microscopy and qPCR methods for the detection of pathogenic protozoa and microsporidia.

Results: Whereas specificity was high for all protozoa and microsporidia, NSP sensitivity was strongly dependent on the comparative method used as reference.

Surprisingly, misinterpretation of the influence of hypoalbuminemia on pharmacokinetics and the clinical effects of drugs seems to be a current problem, even though hypoalbuminemia has no impact on the pharmacologically active exposure. Exceptions to this fact are highly protein-bound anaesthetics with high elimination capacity (i.e.

A new family of environmentally friendly and low-cost membranes based on readily available mineral and polymeric materials has been developed from cast suspensions of kaolin and chitosan using aqueous phase separation and polyethylene glycol as a pore-forming agent. The as-fabricated membranes were further cross-linked with sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) in order to strengthen the properties of the obtained samples. The functional groups determined by FTIR and EDX confirmed that the reaction occurred.

Background: To date, there has been very limited experimental research on the impact of Yoga on older adults' mental health during the COVID-19 crisis. We aimed to explore the effect of a web-based Hatha yoga program on psychological and quality of sleep in older adults who self-isolated at home during the initial stage of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Methods: Two hundred volunteers of both sexes were split into experimental (Yoga group, YG) and control (Control group, CG) groups, in a web-based randomized controlled study.

Syringomyelia is uncommonly revealed by a neuropathic arthropathy (Charcot joint) and characterised by its slow progression with late neurological symptoms. In this particular field, neuropathic arthropathies mainly affect the shoulders and the elbows. We report a new case of neuropathic arthropathy of the wrist caused by syringomyelia, because of the rarity of this condition as well as its uncommon location.

In this study, undoped and (Erbium, Ytterbium) co-doped ZnO nanopowders were prepared using the sol-gel method and the supercritical drying of ethyl alcohol. Doping ZnO nanopowders were elaborated with 5 mol% of Er (5 Er: ZnO), 5 mol% of Er and 5 mol% of Yb (5 Er, 5 Yb: ZnO), and 5 mol% of Er and 10 mol% of Yb (5 Er, 10 Yb: ZnO) concentrations. The effects of the Yb concentration on the structural, morphological, photoluminescent, and electrical properties of the ZnO nanopowders were investigated.

Discoveries of heavy crude oil in the Neoproterozoic rocks (Infracambrian rock sequence) from the Bikaner-Nagaur Basin of India emphasize the significance of studying and exploring the Neoproterozoic source rock potential in the southeastern part of Pakistan. This study evaluates the potential of the source rock in the Infracambrian rock sequence (Salt Range Formation) based on surface geochemical surveys, Rock-Eval pyrolysis, source biomarkers, geophysical characterization, and seismic inversion using machine learning for maturity index estimation. Core samples of Infracambrian rock were extracted for Rock-Eval pyrolysis and biomarker characterization.
