Background: In totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting the target coronary artery is difficult to locate and assess. We explored the capacity of a high-frequency epicardial ultrasound mini-transducer (Aloka, Tokyo, Japan) to endoscopically locate and assess the left anterior descending (LAD), third obtuse marginal (OM3), and right posterior descending (RDP) coronary arteries.
Methods: In eight pigs, the LAD, OM3, and RDP were endoscopically exposed.
Background: In the search for novel approaches to thoracoscopic thymectomy we assessed the feasibility of a subxiphoid approach using computer-enhanced instruments and sternal lifting.
Methods: In 12 pigs, after lifting of the sternum, ports were placed subxiphoid (stereoscope) and in the left and right fourth intercostal space (instruments). Using computer-enhanced instruments, dissection of the thymus and anterior mediastinal fat pads was started at the diaphragm and continued cephalad.
Background: Cranial radiation therapy (CRT) is required for successful treatment of a variety of brain tumours in childhood.
Objective: To investigate whether childhood CRT leads to altered sleep-wakefulness organization in adulthood, and to identify the determinants of such alterations.
Subjects And Methods: Subjective (questionnaires) and objective (actigraphy) measures of circadian rhythmicity and sleep were assessed in 25 individuals, 8-29 years after CRT for medulloblastoma (n=17) or other intracranial tumours (n=8), and in a group of 34 age-matched healthy individuals.
Nonpathogenic rhizobacteria can induce a systemic resistance in plants that is phenotypically similar to pathogen-induced systemic acquired resistance (SAR). Rhizobacteria-mediated induced systemic resistance (ISR) has been demonstrated against fungi, bacteria, and viruses in Arabidopsis, bean, carnation, cucumber, radish, tobacco, and tomato under conditions in which the inducing bacteria and the challenging pathogen remained spatially separated. Bacterial strains differ in their ability to induce resistance in different plant species, and plants show variation in the expression of ISR upon induction by specific bacterial strains.

These side chain conformer libraries are extracted automatically from high-quality protein structures using stringent filters and maintain crystallographic bond lengths and angles. This contrasts with traditional rotamer libraries defined in terms of chi angles under the assumption of idealized covalent geometry.

The two genetically modified microorganisms (GMMs), WCS358r::phz and WCS358r::phl, constitutively produced phenazine-1-carboxylic acid (PCA) and 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG), respectively. Large ensembles of consistent loop conformations, represented at atomic detail with idealized geometry, were generated for a large test set of protein loops of 2 to 12 residues long by a novel ab initio method called RAPPER that relies on fine-grained residue-specific phi/psi propensity tables for conformational sampling. Ranking the conformers on the basis of RAPDF scores resulted in selected conformers that had an average global, non-superimposed RMSD for all heavy mainchain atoms ranging from 1.

Methods: Sixteen vignettes (paper case descriptions), varying on eight patient and treatment characteristics, were designed to assess the oncologists' preferences. Their strength of preference was rated on a 7-point scale.
Objectives: We sought to compare the short- and long-term clinical effects of atrial synchronous pre-excitation of one (univentricular) or both ventricles (biventricular), that provide cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
Background: In patients with heart failure (HF) who have a ventricular conduction delay, CRT improves systolic hemodynamic function. The clinical benefit of CRT is still being investigated.
By adopting the theory of planned behavior, this study tried to predict human resources managers' (N = 79) intentions toward unstructured and structured interview techniques. Managers evaluated case descriptions of both techniques and were interviewed about their own practices. The data revealed stronger intentions toward unstructured interviewing than toward structured interviewing, which was consistent with their own practices in selecting staff, which appeared to be rather unstructured.
