The ubiquitous distribution of microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments is linked to their transport in rivers and streams. However, the specific mechanism of bedload microplastic (MP) transport, notably their stochastic behaviors, remains an underexplored area. To investigate this, particle tracking velocimetry was employed to examine the continuous near-bed movements of four types of MPs under nine setups with different experimental conditions in a laboratory flume, with an emphasis on their streamwise transport.

  • Social anxiety disorder (SAD) often occurs alongside first-episode psychosis (FEP), which can worsen cognitive issues; this study investigates whether group cognitive remediation (CR) is more effective than group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) for improving cognition in FEP+SAD patients.
  • Participants with FEP+SAD were divided into two groups, receiving either CR or CBT, and their cognitive performance was measured at various points, showing significant improvement in executive functions and visual memory for those in the CR group.
  • While 44% of participants completed the CR sessions, the study found challenges in engagement and acceptability, suggesting the need for future research to enhance participation in CR programs.

  • * The study tested different concentrations of ivermectin and EOCs on Rhipicephalus annulatus tick isolates, finding that while all EOCs were toxic to the ticks, no true synergistic effect with ivermectin was identified despite some combinations showing increased mortality.
  • * The research suggests that combining ivermectin with certain EOCs, especially D-limonene and cinnamaldehyde, could enhance tick control methods, and further research is recommended to assess effectiveness in real-world scenarios.

  • Cannabis use is common among individuals with psychotic disorders and can lead to negative outcomes; this study updates previous research on technology-based psychological interventions aimed at reducing cannabis use in this population.
  • The review included 5083 records and found three studies; two quantitative studies indicated that interventions using cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational techniques effectively reduced cannabis use, while one qualitative study explored opinions on these approaches from patients and clinicians.
  • Despite the growth of mobile health solutions, there is a lack of research on internet and app-based interventions for cannabis use in psychosis, highlighting the need for more qualitative studies in developing these technology-based approaches.

In comparison to the lead halide perovskites, nowadays, lead-free halide perovskites have demonstrated a number of benefits, including efficient optical absorption, increased stability, variable bandgap, excellent mobility of carriers, non-toxicity, abundant raw ingredients, and low manufacturing cost. The use of the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE) and Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof (HSE) hybrid functional inside the quantum espresso software allowed for a thorough examination of these materials, potentially leading to improvements in the development of ecologically acceptable and economically sustainable perovskite-based products. This work has extensively examined the effects of compressive and tensile strain on the structural, optical, and electronic characteristics of the inorganic cubic perovskite SrAsX (X = F, Cl, Br) with varying X anion using first-principles density-functional theory (FP-DFT).

  • A study examined the effectiveness of essential oil and carvacrol, a key ingredient in the oil, as eco-friendly solutions to control a problematic pest affecting stored products.
  • Carvacrol showed a high repellency rate of 92% and superior fumigant toxicity compared to the essential oil, indicating it’s more effective in pest management.
  • Both carvacrol and the essential oil were successful in preventing the development of the pest's offspring, highlighting their potential for sustainable pest control strategies.

The excessive use of conventional medications to treat coccidiosis has led to concerns regarding drug residues in tissues and the emergence of multidrug resistance. Essential oils with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities may also have anticoccidial effects. The present study investigated the efficacy of D-limonene and its nanoemulsion form against Eimeria tenella in chickens.

Objectives Access to stable, safe, and affordable housing is an important determinant of health and community integration among people living with mental illness. Previous studies on housing stability, housing satisfaction and residential preferences among people living with mental illness have primarily been conducted among those with extensive service use experiences. First-time mental health service users, and youth in particular, are likely to present with distinct housing needs.

Background: There is a well-established, although complex, association between aggression and psychosis, particularly in the early stages of illness. Some persons display aggressive behaviors even prior to psychosis onset. However, factors associated with aggressive behaviors prior to and at first-episode psychosis (FEP) onset remain underdocumented.

Objective: There are few tools capable of measuring the personal recovery of individuals presenting with mental disorders that take into account the various dimensions of recovery. Personal recovery encompasses several objectives at the level of autonomy, positive interpersonal relationships, mental and physical health, self-acceptance, the school/professional domain, as well as developing a life project. A team of practitioners and researchers from four countries (Canada, Belgium, France, and Switzerland) adapted the Client Assessment of Strengths, Interests, and Goals (CASIG) tool to more accurately measure these different aspects of personal recovery.

The settling behavior of microplastics (MPs) plays a pivotal role in their transport and fate in aquatic environments, but the dominant mechanisms and physics governing the settling of MPs in rivers remain poorly understood. To gain mechanistic insights into the velocity lag of MPs in an open-channel flume under different turbulent flow conditions, an experimental study was conducted using three types of MPs: polystyrene, cellulose acetate, and acrylic, of sphere-shaped particles with diameters ranging from 1 mm to 5 mm. A particle tracking technique was employed to record and analyze the MPs velocity within turbulent flows.
