Objective: To use a point-of-care viscoelastic coagulation monitoring device (VCM-Vet; Entegrion) and traditional tests to assess hemostatic changes during hemorrhagic shock in dogs.
Methods: 8 healthy, purpose-bred Beagles were enrolled in a hemorrhagic shock model conducted from September through December 2021. Dogs were anesthetized, had baseline hemostatic variables measured after blood pressure was stabilized at 70 to 80 mm Hg for 10 minutes (T1), had blood withdrawn from a jugular vein to achieve a mean blood pressure of 40 ± 5 mm Hg for 10 minutes (T2), were resuscitated with 100% shed blood, and then had hemostatic variables evaluated 10 minutes later (T3).
Purpose: Best practices exist for communicating medical information to patients, but there is less emphasis on methods to communicate risks, especially in medical imaging. The authors conducted a scoping review of patient decision aids in medical imaging and characterized the presentation methods of imaging risks.
Methods: Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and PsychINFO were searched to identify studies involving patient decision aids used in diagnostic imaging that communicated the risks.
Advances in cancer screening and treatment have improved survival after a diagnosis of cancer. As the number of cancer survivors as well as their overall life-expectancy increases, investigations of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) are critical in understanding the factors that promote the optimal experience over the course of survivorship. However, there is a dearth of information on determinants of HRQOL for African American cancer survivors as the vast majority of cohorts have been conducted predominantly among non-Hispanic Whites.

There is intense interest in reprogramming Tregs to contribute to antitumor immunity. OX40 and CD137 are expressed highly on Tregs, activated and memory T cells, and NK cells.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa represents one of the greatest AMR concerns due to increasing multi- and pan-drug resistance rates. Shotgun sequencing is gaining traction for in silico AMR profiling due to its unambiguity and transferability; however, accurate and comprehensive AMR prediction from P.

While these methods provide useful insights, they can overlook crucial process-based information that may enhance our understanding of cancer biology. In this study, we describe three novel tools incorporated into an online resource; gene set-based analysis of The Cancer Genome Atlas (GS-TCGA).

Methods: We identified outbreaks of COVID-19 cases in the workplace and investigated the characteristics of the individuals, the workplaces, the areas they work and the mode of commute to work, through data linkages based on Middle Layer Super Output Areas in England between 20 June 2021 and 20 February 2022. We estimated population-level associations between potential risk factors and workplace outbreaks, adjusting for plausible confounders identified using a directed acyclic graph.
Background: Mental health care is now recognised as essential for people affected by NTDs, but accessible services are rare. This paper presents results of a prevalence study for depression and anxiety among people living with leprosy and lymphatic filariasis, and collation of user perspectives on needs and priorities for a new service.
Methods: Prevalence of mental conditions was carried out with 141 people living with leprosy and lymphatic filariasis and matched controls.
Background: The World Health Organization recommends person-centred and integrated care for mental health of people with Neglected Tropical Diseases. This study assesses the feasibility and acceptability of mental health care for people with NTDs, which integrated mental health care into primary health care services, in central Nigeria.
Methods: People affected by NTDs were screened for depression and anxiety, and those identified referred to the integrated service.

Non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection is a major cause of morbidity in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) with rates of infection increasing worldwide. Accurate diagnosis and decisions surrounding best management remain challenging. Treatment guidelines have been developed to assist physicians in managing NTM in pwCF, but involve prolonged and complex mycobacterial regimens, often associated with significant toxicity.

Macrolide susceptibility is a key prognostic factor. Optimal drug combinations, duration of therapy, and management of refractory disease are unknown.

Objectives: We aimed to review quantitative patient preference studies in imaging-related decision making, including characteristics of the literature and the quality of the evidence.
Purpose: Given the well-documented benefits of regular exercise to cancer survivors, current American Cancer Society guidelines recommend that patients engage in a minimum of 150 min per week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity with a minimum of two days of strength training. However, few survivors meet this goal, particularly among minorities.
Methods: The CAPABLE study is a single-arm, pilot exercise intervention that introduced 48 cancer survivors to a high intensity interval and strength training program three days a week for 12 weeks.
Background: Practice-based education is an essential component of pre-registration physiotherapy programs, and there is a need for a contemporary review of practice-based educational experiences.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore physiotherapy practice educators' experiences of supporting learners to inform considerations for future workforce development.
Methods: This was a mixed methods sequential explanatory study based in the United Kingdom (UK).

Objective: To report summative data from the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Committee on Trauma (VetCOT) registry.
Design: Multi-institutional registry data report, April 1, 2017 to December 31, 2019.
Setting: VetCOT identified and verified Veterinary Trauma Centers (VTCs).
Purpose: Improved life expectancy has increased the likelihood for long-term complications from chemotherapy among cancer survivors. One burdensome complication is chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). We evaluated rates of CIPN outcomes in the Detroit Research on Cancer Survivorship (ROCS) cohort.

Conferences run by student "neuro-societies" offer a means to bridge this gap. This paper describes one student-led neuro-society's experience of curating a 1-day national neurosurgical conference supported by our neurosurgical department.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFDrug self-administration and intracranial self-stimulation (ICSS) are two preclinical behavioral procedures used to predict abuse potential of drugs, and abuse-related drug effects in both procedures are thought to depend on increased mesolimbic dopamine (DA) signaling. Drug self-administration and ICSS yield concordant metrics of abuse potential across a diverse range of drug mechanisms of action. The "rate of onset," defined as the velocity with which a drug produces its effect once administered, has also been implicated as a determinant of abuse-related drug effects in self-administration procedures, but this variable has not been systematically examined in ICSS.

The algorithm adapts to this nontrivial case, the recently introduced Mass-Zero (MaZe) constrained dynamics. The formalism ensures that full adiabatic separation is enforced between nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom and, consequently, that the exact Born-Oppenheimer probability for the nuclei is sampled.

Therefore, we sought to identify genetic variants in Black patients diagnosed with early-onset prostate cancer.
Methods: Whole-exome sequencing of germline DNA from a population-based cohort of Black men diagnosed with prostate cancer at age 62 years or younger was performed.
