Real-world practitioner perceptions of CARTITUDE-4 results for patients with previously treated multiple myeloma.

Introduction: Initially approved for the fifth-line or later therapeutic setting, the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell regimen ciltacabtagene autoleucel (cilta-cel) was recently approved for second-line (2L) treatment in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Oncology practitioners use clinical trials to inform treatment, but real-world impressions and impact on practice are lacking. We aimed to determine whether presenting CARTITUDE-4 clinical trial data would impact real-world preferences/perceptions around CAR T-cell therapy.

Acute Epiploic Appendagitis Mimicking Ovarian Torsion: A Case Report Highlighting Diagnostic Challenges.

BACKGROUND Acute epiploic appendagitis is an uncommon cause of acute abdominal pain characterized by pain in the left or right lower quadrants of the abdomen. It is caused by torsion or spontaneous venous thrombosis of one of the epiploic appendages, which are found along the colon, most commonly in the sigmoid colon. The literature consistently compares the presenting symptoms and clinical picture of acute epiploic appendagitis to acute diverticulitis and acute appendicitis.

Understanding progress and challenges in women's health and wellbeing in exemplar countries: a time-series study identifying positive outliers.

Background: Women's health and wellbeing (WHW) forms a multidimensional continuum across the life course, with intersecting power dynamics including socioeconomic and ethnic positioning. The WHW Exemplars project uses robust quantitative approaches to identify best-performing low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) in improving WHW across the entire life course.

Methods: Using the life course approach, we created a list of 32 cross-sectional indicators belonging to nine dimensions based on a conceptual framework to assess progress in WHW.

Acute promyelocytic leukaemia (APL), defined by the t(15;17)(q24;q21) translocation, accounts for 5%-10% of paediatric acute myeloid leukaemia cases. All-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO) are key treatments, though ATO access varies. We evaluated treatment, complications and survival in 50 UK paediatric APL patients diagnosed between 2014 and 2021.

Trends and inequalities in thinness and obesity among Chinese children and adolescents: evidence from seven national school surveys between 1985 and 2019.

Background: There are little recent data in China regarding contemporary nutritional inequities among children and adolescents, particularly in relation to urban-rural residence and regional socioeconomic status (SES). We aim to assess inequalities in thinness and obesity in Chinese children and adolescents.

Methods: Weight and height measurements for 1 677 261 children and adolescents aged 7-18 years were obtained from seven cycles of the Chinese National Surveys on Students Constitution and Health (1985, 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010, 2014, and 2019).

Yet measuring adolescent girls' agency continues to be a challenge, limiting the ability to track impact. This study addresses this evidence gap by constructing and validating a multidimensional measure of agency among adolescent girls in Ethiopia.

Burkholderia multivorans Infections Associated with Use of Ice and Water from Ice Machines for Patient Care Activities - Four Hospitals, California and Colorado, 2020-2024.

Ice machines can harbor water-related organisms, and the use of ice or tap water for clinical care activities has been associated with infections in health care settings. During 2021-2022, a total of 23 cases of infection by Burkholderia multivorans (sequence type ST659) were reported at two southern California hospitals and linked to contaminated ice and water from ice machines. In addition to these 23 cases, this report also includes 23 previously unreported cases of B.

Widespread Adaptive Introgression of Major Histocompatibility Complex Genes across Vertebrate Hybrid Zones.

Interspecific introgression is a potentially important source of novel variation of adaptive significance. Although multiple cases of adaptive introgression are well documented, broader generalizations about its targets and mechanisms are lacking. Multiallelic balancing selection, particularly when acting through rare allele advantage, is an evolutionary mechanism expected to favor adaptive introgression.

Accelerating Well-being for Adolescents Through Transformative Public Policy: A Framework for Action.

Purpose: As governments around the world are shaping policy responses to advance adolescent well-being and protect their rights, the tools and resources to strengthen policy foundations, and ultimately improve their effectiveness, remain limited. This paper proposes a framework to support policy action with an explicit adolescent focus and applies it to two illustrative case studies to unpack the underlying policy conditions for success.

Methods: We develop an analytic framework with an adolescent lens that focuses on the full policy life-course, from development, to implementation, to evaluation.

Background: Studies show interdisciplinary treatment is highly effective for addressing chronic pain syndromes, including headache disorders. Increasingly, advanced practice pharmacists work collaboratively with physicians to apply their unique skills to enhance patient outcomes.

Background: Since the late 1990s, there has been a worldwide surge of scientific interest in the pre-psychotic phase, resulting in the introduction of several clinical tools for early detection. The predictive accuracy of these tools has been limited, motivating the need for methodological and perspectival improvements. The EASE manual supports systematic assessment of anomalous self-experience, and proposes an overall model of understanding how most psychotic experiences may be initially generated on the basis of a unifying, fundamental, pre-reflective distortion of subjectivity.

Dietary supplement use is common in older adult drivers: an analysis from the AAA LongROAD study.

Background: Dietary supplement (DS) use is common and increasing among older adults, though much data available on use frequencies are from surveys and performed cross-sectionally. This paper sought to assess the frequency and pattern of dietary supplement use among older adults over time.

Methods: A secondary analysis of data from the AAA LongROAD study, a longitudinal prospective cohort study of older adult drivers, using data from baseline and the first two years of follow up included a total of 2990 drivers aged 65-79 years recruited at five study sites across the US from July 2015 to March 2017.

Development of a cyclic ion mobility spectrometry-mass spectrometry-based collision cross-section database of permethylated human milk oligosaccharides.

Human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) are an important class of biomolecules responsible for the healthy development of the brain-gut axis of infants. Unfortunately, their accurate characterization is largely precluded due to a variety of reasons - there are over 200 possible HMO structures whereas only 10s of these are available as authentic analytical standards. Furthermore, their isomeric heterogeneity stemming from their many possible glycosidic linkage positions and corresponding α/β anomericities further complicates their analyses.

Erythrocyte membrane fatty acid concentrations and myelin integrity in young people at ultra-high risk of psychosis.

Decreased white matter (WM) integrity and disturbance in fatty acid composition have been reported in individuals at ultra-high risk of psychosis (UHR). The current study is the first to investigate both WM integrity and erythrocyte membrane polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) levels as potential risk biomarkers for persistent UHR status, and global functioning in UHR individuals. Forty UHR individuals were analysed at baseline for erythrocyte membrane PUFA concentrates.

Green sturgeon () are an anadromous threatened species of sturgeon found along the Pacific coast of North America. The southern distinct population segment only spawns in the Sacramento River and is exposed to water temperatures kept artificially cold for the conservation and management of winter-run Chinook salmon (). Past research has demonstrated costs of cold-water rearing including reduced growth rates, condition and survivorship of juvenile green sturgeon.

Understanding associations between the COVID-19 pandemic and menstrual hygiene management among adolescent girls in Ethiopia: findings from a mixed-methods longitudinal study.

Objective: To understand the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and menstrual hygiene management (MHM) among adolescent girls in Ethiopia and to explore which girls were most affected by pandemic disruptions.

Design: Two rounds of data from surveys and interviews were collected with adolescent girls immediately prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary analysis is cross-sectional, controlling for pre-COVID-19 covariates.

Fostering Alignment and the Catalytic Potential of Community-Engaged Research With US Military Veterans and Advocates.

This paper explores the concept of "community-engaged research" (CEnR) within the context of Veteran health care delivery and reintegration programs. A multi-sector expert panel (msExP) was formed to evaluate and make recommendations on Veteran community reintegration research and programs. The panel consisted of Veterans, care partners, clinical providers, researchers, community stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

Headache Specialists' Perceptions of the Role of Health Psychologists in Headache Management: A Qualitative Study.

Background Since headache specialists cannot treat all the patients with headache disorders, multidisciplinary teams that include health psychologists are becoming more prevalent. Health psychologists mainly use a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), along with biofeedback on occasion, to effectively address patients' pain and headache disorders. The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is one setting that routinely includes a health psychologist with advanced training in pain disorders in their pain care to its veterans.

Association of Depression and Antidepressant Use With Driving Behaviors in Older Adults: A LongROAD Study.

Older adults aged 70 and older who drive have higher crash death rates per mile driven compared to middle aged (35-54 years) adults who drive in the US. Prior studies have found that depression and or antidepressant medication use in older adults are associated with an increase in the vehicular crash rate. Using data from the prospective multi-site AAA Longitudinal Research on Aging Drivers Study, this analysis examined the independent and interdependent associations of self-reported depression and antidepressant use with driving behaviors that can increase motor vehicle crash risk such as hard braking, speeding, and night-time driving in adults over age 65.
