Purpose: To compare patient outcomes using an objective functional performance battery, self-reported outcome measures, and return-to-sport rates between individuals undergoing ACL reconstruction with concomitant MAT and a matched group undergoing isolated ACL reconstruction.

The use of abstract animations and a graphical body image for assessing pain outcomes among adults with sickle cell disease.

Painimation, a novel digital pain assessment tool, allows patients to communicate their pain quality, intensity, and location using abstract animations (painimations) and a paintable body image. This study determined the construct validity of painimations and body image measures by testing correlations with validated pain outcomes in adults with sickle cell disease (SCD). Analyses used baseline data from a multisite randomized trial of 359 adults with SCD and chronic pain.

Pediatric Long COVID Subphenotypes: An EHR-based study from the RECOVER program.

Pediatric Long COVID has been associated with a wide variety of symptoms, conditions, and organ systems, but distinct clinical presentations, or subphenotypes, are still being elucidated. In this exploratory analysis, we identified a cohort of pediatric (age <21) patients with evidence of Long COVID and no pre-existing complex chronic conditions using electronic health record data from 38 institutions and used an unsupervised machine learning-based approach to identify subphenotypes. Our method, an extension of the Phe2Vec algorithm, uses tens of thousands of clinical concepts from multiple domains to represent patients' clinical histories to then identify groups of patients with similar presentations.

Exploring Consumer Experiences of Barriers and Enablers to Accessing Rehabilitation That Meets Their Needs: The Rehabilitation Choices Study, Part 2-Consumer Perspectives.

Introduction: Improved access to rehabilitation is highlighted as a key pathway to achieving the World Health Organisation's (WHO) goal of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all (Sustainable Development Goal 3). This article is the second in a two-part series outlining the findings from the Rehabilitation Choices study, which aimed to identify how health professionals and consumers in Australia are informed to make decisions about rehabilitation, and their experience with barriers and enablers to accessing that rehabilitation. In this study, we present the perspectives of consumers with different health conditions and a range of experiences with rehabilitation services.

Adaptation of the socioecological model to address disparities in engagement of Black men in prostate cancer genetic testing.

Background: Black men consistently have higher rates of prostate cancer (PCA)- related mortality. Advances in PCA treatment, screening, and hereditary cancer assessment center around germline testing (GT). Of concern is the significant under-engagement of Black males in PCA GT, limiting the benefit of precision therapy and tailored cancer screening despite longstanding awareness of these disparities.

Evaluation of the analytical and clinical performance of a high-sensitivity troponin I point-of-care assay in the Mersey Acute Coronary Syndrome Rule Out Study (MACROS-2).

Objectives: The objective of this study is to evaluate the analytical and diagnostic performance of a high-sensitivity point-of-care (POC) cardiac troponin I assay, the Quidel TriageTrue™ (QuidelOrtho Inc, San Diego, USA), compared to central laboratory testing (CLT) in accelerated diagnostic protocols (ADP) in real time in a clinical environment.

Methods: In a nested sub-study of a pragmatic randomised control trial, consecutive patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and chest pain <12 h duration were randomised to the ESC 0/1 and 0/3-h ADP. Subjects underwent sampling for Quidel TriageTrue POC hs-TnI whole blood and plasma, CLT hs-TnT Roche Elecsys and a validated, NICE approved CLT High sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-TnI) (Siemens Attellica) at each time point.

The Role of Humeral Torsion on Glenohumeral Rotation in Injured Baseball Players.

Background: Differences in rotational range of motion (ROM) compared to humeral retrotorsion (HRT)-corrected rotational ROM exist in healthy baseball athletes, but it is unclear whether these differences exist in a pathological population.

Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to determine if there are disparities between objectively measured differences in ROM and HRT-corrected deficits in injured baseball players. It was hypothesized that disparities would exist between (1) the side-to-side difference in glenohumeral external rotation (GER) and the HRT-corrected glenohumeral external rotation deficit (GERD) and (2) the side-to-side difference in glenohumeral internal rotation (GIR) and the HRT-corrected glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD).

Prompt discharge of patients without MI will alleviate ED overcrowding as well as improve patient satisfaction and reduce exposure to risk of hospital acquired infections such as Covid 19. The measurement of cardiac troponin (cTn) by a high sensitivity method is recommended by the National Institute for health and Care Excellence (NICE) for rapid categorization of patients presenting with chest pain.

However, it remains unknown how increasing aridity and livestock grazing pressure-two major drivers of global change-shape the trait covariation that underlies plant phenotypic diversity. Here we assessed how covariation among 20 chemical and morphological traits responds to aridity and grazing pressure within global drylands.

Objectives: This study seeks to identify demographic and clinical factors prompting clinician prescribing of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir to pediatric patients for management of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

Methods: Patients aged 12 to 17 years with a COVID-19 infection and nirmatrelvir/ritonavir prescription during an outpatient clinical encounter within a PEDSnet-affiliated institution between January 2022 and August 2023 were identified using electronic health record data. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to estimate odds of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir prescription after adjusting for various factors.

Little league baseball players present with a unique subset of injuries that can affect the growth plate, commonly at the shoulder or the elbow. Ascertaining a diagnosis and plan of care for little league shoulder (LLS) historically focuses on the proximal humeral physis in skeletally immature throwing athletes presenting with shoulder pain.

The medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) is a major contributor to relapse to cocaine in humans and to reinstatement in rodent models of cocaine use disorder. The output from the mPFC is potently modulated by parvalbumin (PV)-containing fast-spiking interneurons, the majority of which are surrounded by perineuronal nets. We previously showed that treatment with chondroitinase ABC (ABC) reduced the consolidation and reconsolidation of a cocaine conditioned place preference memory.

National and regional population attributable fractions for anemia risk factors (iron, folate, and vitamin B12) in Belize: potential impact of fortification.

Objective: To estimate the national and regional population attributable fraction (PAF) and potential number of preventable anemia cases for three nutritional risk factors (iron, red blood cell folate [RBCF], and vitamin B12 deficiencies) among women of childbearing age in Belize.

Methods: A national probability-based household and micronutrient survey capturing sociodemographic and health information was conducted among 937 nonpregnant Belizean women aged 15-49 years. Blood samples were collected to determine hemoglobin, ferritin, alpha-1-glycoprotein (AGP), RBCF, and vitamin B12 status.
