Growth differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15) is proposed to be strongly associated with several cardiovascular diseases, such as heart failure and atherosclerosis. Moreover, some recent studies have reported an association between GDF-15 and platelet activation. In this study, we isolated peripheral blood platelets from healthy volunteers and evaluated the effect of GDF-15 on adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet activation using the platelet aggregation assay.

Hypocapnia is an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality in acute heart failure.

Aims: Acute heart failure (AHF) poses a major threat to hospitalized patients for its high mortality rate and serious complications. The aim of this study is to determine whether hypocapnia [defined as the partial pressure of arterial carbon dioxide (PaCO ) below 35 mmHg] on admission could be associated with in-hospital all-cause mortality in AHF.

Methods And Results: A total of 676 patients treated in the coronary care unit for AHF were retrospectively analysed, and the study endpoint was in-hospital all-cause mortality.

Sacubitril/valsartan (Sac/Val) is a recently approved drug that is commonly used for treatment of heart failure. Several studies indicated that Sac/Val also regulated the secretion of inflammatory factors. However, the effect and mechanism of this drug modulation of inflammatory immune responses are uncertain.
