Background: Targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) has become a trending tool in the field of infection diagnosis, but concerns are also raising about its performance compared with metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS). This study aims to explore the clinical feasibility of a tNGS panel for respiratory tract infection diagnosis and compare it with mNGS in the same cohort of inpatients.
Methods: 180 bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples were collected and sent to two centers for mNGS and tNGS blinded tests, respectively.
Constructed wetlands, serving as artificially simulated natural wetland water treatment systems, have emerged as effective technologies for ecologically treating wastewater. Biochar, a carbon material derived from biomass waste pyrolysis, possesses significant specific surface area, abundant functional groups, and high stability. The integration of biochar into artificial wetland systems enhances the removal efficiency of pollutants.

To counter these challenges, the development of nanoformulations represents a pivotal strategy. These advanced formulations are designed to enhance the efficacy of active ingredients (AIs) and reduce ecological impacts, thereby addressing the need for sustainable agricultural development.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTestosterone signaling mediates diseases such as androgenetic alopecia and prostate cancer and is controlled by the activation of the androgen receptor (AR) and nuclear translocation of the ligand-receptor complex. This study established an immortalized dermal papilla cell line that stably expresses the AR labeled with a monomeric green fluorescence marker. The cells expressed the histone H2B protein as visualized using a red fluorescence marker, enabling the Detection of nuclear translocation under live cell conditions using image analysis.

This process is highly susceptible to bacterial infection, which often leads to impaired and delayed wound repair. While antibiotic therapy remains the primary clinical approach for treating bacteria-infected wounds, its widespread use poses a significant risk of developing bacterial resistance.

Nonfullerene acceptors are critical in advancing the performance of organic solar cells. However, unfavorable morphology and low photon-to-electron conversion in the acceptor range continue to limit the photocurrent generation and overall device performance. Herein, benzoic anhydride, a low-cost polar molecule with excellent synergistic properties, is introduced in combination with the traditional additive 1-chloronaphthalene to optimize the aggregation of nonfullerene acceptors.

Imprinting strategy was proposed to immobilize the specific conformation of aptamers, aiming to enhance their recognition anti-interference. However, it is mechanistically unclear how the imprinted polymers affect aptamers' recognition, which limits application of the strategy.

This study aimed to identify underlying variants and candidate genes associated with BMI in Yunong-black pigs. A single-step genome-wide association analysis (GWAS) was performed on 1405 BMI records and 924 Yunong-black pigs genotyped using a 50 K SNP Chip.

However, its quantitative properties, including sensitivity, bias, and linearity, remain challenging to assess. Measuring these properties is difficult due to the heterogenous and dynamic nature of chromosomal interactions.

Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases for studies which reported the incidence of CKD in non-obese and obese NAFLD from inception to 10 March 2024.
The integration of membrane separation with heterogeneous advanced oxidation processes is a prospective strategy for the elimination of contaminants during wastewater treatment. Fe-based catalysts and the green oxidant peracetic acid (PAA) are desirable candidates for the development of catalytic membranes because they are environmentally friendly. However, the construction of catalytic ceramic membranes (CMs) modified with efficient Fe-based catalysts that generate increased amounts of high-valent Fe-O species during PAA activation for the degradation of specific pollutants, especially during instantaneous membrane filtration, remains challenging.

This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PSMA PET/CT) for PSA grey zone PCa and clinically significant PCa (csPCa).
Methods: A total of 82 patients with PSA levels ranging from 4 to 10 ng/mL who underwent F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT, mpMRI, and prostate biopsy were prospectively enrolled.
Memristors are commonly used as the connecting parts of neurons in brain-like neural networks. The memristors, unlike the existing literature, possess the capability to function as both self-connected synaptic weights and interconnected synaptic weights, thereby enabling the generation of intricate initials-regulated plane coexistence behaviors. To demonstrate this dynamical effect, a Hopfield neural network with two-memristor-interconnected neurons (TMIN-HNN) is proposed.

Methods: We employed orthogonal experimental design to optimize RAg-CEIA by adjusting raw material dilution ratios. The assay was used to measure normalized optical density (ODn) values in 171 longitudinal plasma specimens from 51 HIV-1 seroconverting individuals, plotted against estimated days post-seroconversion.
This study utilizes discarded tree leaves as a substrate to synthesize biomass porous carbon nanosheets (PCNS) through high-temperature carbonization and pore-forming treatment, followed by functional modification using carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) and the corrosion inhibitor 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ). The functionalized PCNS fillers were incorporated into water-based epoxy (WEP) coatings to enhance corrosion resistance. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) testing showed that after 60 days, WEP/PCNS@CMCS@8-HQ exhibited a low-frequency impedance of 1.

Diabetic osteoporosis, a prevalent chronic complication of diabetes, is marked by reduced bone mass, increased bone fragility, and susceptibility to fractures. A significant cause of this condition is the disruption of osteoblastic homeostasis due to prolonged hyperglycemia, which impedes bone regeneration and remodeling. Despite its prevalence, no effective treatments specifically target diabetic osteoporosis.
