Urologists' proficiency in various donor nephrectomy approaches: a real-life survey, systematic review, and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Introduction: Donor nephrectomy (DN) is a unique surgical procedure in urological practice, as it involves exposing a healthy individual to the potential risks of surgery. This type of surgery exhibits heterogeneity in terms of approach (open, laparoscopic, or robotic), each with its unique set of advantages and disadvantages. Consequently, there is currently a lack of universally agreed upon clear guidelines.

New imaging technologies for robotic kidney cancer surgery.

Objective: Kidney cancers account for approximately 2% of all newly diagnosed cancer in 2020. Among the primary treatment options for kidney cancer, urologist may choose between radical or partial nephrectomy, or ablative therapies. Nowadays, robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy (RAPN) for the management of renal cancers has gained popularity, up to being considered the gold standard.

Characterization of the SARS-CoV-2 genomes in Egypt in first and second waves of infection.

At Wuhan, in December 2019, the SRAS-CoV-2 outbreak was detected and it has been the pandemic worldwide. This study aims to investigate the mutations in sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 genome and characterize the mutation patterns in Egyptian COVID-19 patients during different waves of infection. The samples were collected from 250 COVID-19 patients and the whole genome sequencing was conducted using Next Generation Sequencing.

Methods: We included patients with clinically localized prostate cancer who underwent RS-RARP or ORP and met our inclusion criteria. We compared the perioperative, oncological, and continence outcomes between both surgical approaches.

The Effect of Stem Cell Transplantation Therapy for Post Viral Chronic Liver Cell Failure on Associated Type II Diabetes Mellitus: A Pilot Study.

Background: It was observed that type II diabetes mellitus associated with chronic liver failure improved after stem cell transplantation. However, there were no adequate studies regarding this issue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of stem cell transplantation on associated type II diabetes mellitus and on the liver function tests.

BAP1 gene mutations in Egyptian patients with advanced sporadic malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM): relation with clinical outcomes and survival.

Background: Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma (MPM) is a lethal cancer with few therapeutic options. Patients with MPM have a poor prognosis, with estimated 1 year median survival and currently no treatment is curative. The BRCA associated protein 1 (BAP1) has the highest prevalence of protein-altering mutations identified in MPM.

Validity of a sponge trainer as a simple training model for percutaneous renal access.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of our simply designed trainer for junior urologists to acquire the initial skills for percutaneous renal access (PRA).

We studied promoter methylation (PM) of 11 genes in Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes (PBLs) and tissues of hepatitis C virus (HCV) associated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and chronic hepatitis (CH) Egyptian patients. The present study included 31 HCC with their ANT, 38 CH and 13 normal hepatic tissue (NHT) samples. In all groups, PM of APC, FHIT, p15, p73, p14, p16, DAPK1, CDH1, RARβ, RASSF1A, O(6)MGMT was assessed by methylation-specific PCR (MSP).

Role of posterior tibial nerve stimulation in the treatment of refractory monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis: a pilot study.

Purpose: We evaluated the early clinical and urodynamic results of posterior tibial nerve stimulation in patients with refractory monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis.

Materials And Methods: We randomly assigned 28 patients with refractory monosymptomatic nocturnal enuresis to 2 equal groups. Group 1 received a weekly session of posterior tibial nerve stimulation for 12 weeks and group 2 was the placebo group.

Protective effects of garlic and silymarin on NDEA-induced rats hepatotoxicity.

Background: The present study was conducted to investigate the chemopreventive effects of garlic extract and silymarin on N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4))-induced hepatotoxicity in male albino rats.

Methods And Results: Animals were pretreated with garlic, silymarin or both for one week prior to the injection of NDEA. Then animals received a single injection of NDEA followed by weekly subcutaneous injections of CCl(4) for 6 weeks.

Visual laser ablation of the prostate (VLAP) with bare fiber in conjunction with laser bladder neck incision in the treatment of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The objective of this paper was to assess the effectiveness of visual laser ablation of the prostate (VLAP) using a bare fiber with simultaneous laser incision of the bladder neck for patients with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia. Sixty-seven patients with symptomatic bladder outlet obstruction due to benign prostatic hyperplasia were entered into a prospective trial where VLAP was done with neodymium:YAG laser, while the bladder neck incision was done with KTP laser. The laser was delivered using a bare fiber.
