Cancer, characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and metastasis, poses a significant global health burden, ranking as a leading cause of mortality worldwide. Colorectal cancer (CRC) specifically accounts for a substantial portion of cancer cases, with increasing incidence projected over the coming decades. While conventional treatments exist, they often entail adverse effects and limited efficacy, driving interest in natural remedies like coumarin derivatives due to their diverse biological activities and perceived safety profile.

The photochemical and photophysical properties of the compounds, such as solvatochromism, solubility, and chemical reactivity, were analyzed using UV-vis spectroscopy in different solvents. Due to the potential biological activities of the synthesized compounds, their binding affinity and mechanisms with calf thymus DNA (ct-DNA) and bovine hemoglobin (BHb) were determined using several useful spectrophotometric and theoretical approaches such as UV-vis absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, molecular docking, and density functional theory (DFT).

The washing procedure is by far the most significant way that textile products release microplastic fibers (MPFs). Therefore, in this study, the effects of various textile raw materials (A acrylic, PA polyamide, PET polyester, RPET recycled polyester and PP polypropylene), fabric construction properties (woven, knitted), thickness and basis weight values on MPFs release at different washing stages (pre-washing, soaping/rinsing) were examined separately.

The cytotoxic, genotoxic, and apoptotic properties of an oxime derivative of thymoquinone (TQ) in melanoma cancer cells were investigated. The structure of TQ-Oxime was elucidated through nuclear magnetic resonance, and its effect on B16F10 and L929 cell lines was assessed using a luminometric adenosine triphosphate assay.

Four new symmetric and asymmetric thiophene-coumarin derivatives were designed and synthesized via Pd-catalyzed Suzuki and Stille Cross-Coupling reactions. Single crystals of all synthesized thiophene-coumarin derivatives were obtained, and π···π interactions were observed among them.

A new method for synthesizing cross-linked 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacenes (BODIPYs) using a radical-based thiol-ene click reaction is developed. This method is simple, efficient, and cost-effective, and it produces polymers with unique optical, electrochemical, and surface morphology properties. Significant blue shifts in absorption and photoinduced electron transfer in emissions are observed in the cross-linked BODIPY thin films.

This study synthesized TQ-Ox and examined its cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic properties in ovarian cancer cells. The structure TQ-Ox was confirmed with NMR.

Phthalonitrile derivatives are generally reported to crystallize in space groups P2/c and P1 in the literature. In this study, 7-hydroxy-4,8-dimethyl-3-pentylcoumarin (2) and its phthalonitrile derivative (2d) were crystallized; 2d crystallized in the rare trigonal space group R3. In the phthalonitrile derivative (2d), weak C-H.

These products were synthesized by a Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction between tetraiodophthalocyanine and ethynyl ferrocene. The newly synthesized phthalocyanines (4-6) were characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, H NMR, and MALDI-TOF spectroscopic methods and elemental analysis.

The structures of the complexes were characterized by single crystal XRD and FT-IR and NMR spectroscopy and Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) methods. Mononuclear complexes exhibit octahedral coordination.

In particular, antiviral drugs that are currently available to treat infection in the respiratory tract have been experienced, but there is a need for new antiviral drugs that are targeted and inhibit coronavirus. The antiviral properties of organic compounds found in nature, especially coumarins, are known and widely studied.

However, despite their widespread use, safety and quality issues have been major concerns in the world due to industrial- and anthropogenic-based heavy metal contamination risks. Thus, this study was attempted to analyze the heavy metal levels and mineral nutrient status of widely used medicinal plants in Turkey to have insights about their health implications on humans.
