Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder with neuronal loss in the hippocampus. Our aim was to evaluate the effects of Iranian thyme honey (single dose: 2 gr/kg) vs rivastigmine (0.3 mg/kg) in vivo on spatial memory and in vitro on important parameters of oxidative stress as well as quantitative and qualitative studies of hippocampal neurons of AD rat models with this design that 30 days after oral administration of 17 mg/kg AlCl, 20 AD rats were received that underwent a 6-weeks therapeutic period and another 20 rats underwent a 6-weeks preventive period and also 20 rats were as controls.
