Oncocytic adenocarcinoma (OC) of the salivary glands is a rare and controversial entity. It was recently reclassified as "salivary carcinoma NOS and emerging entities" in the 2022 WHO classification of head and neck tumors. The lack of specific molecular alterations and its potential affiliation with other salivary gland carcinomas, such as the oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinomas (OMEC) or the oncocytic subtype of salivary duct carcinomas (OSDC) justified this reclassification.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: Most salivary gland neoplasms are distinguished by specific recurrent gene fusions. Recently, a subset of pleomorphic adenomas (PAs) originated from the parotid gland harboring the HMGA2:WIF1 fusion was described with a canalicular adenoma-like morphology and a greater propensity for recurrence and carcinomatous transformation.
Methods And Results: This study delineates the clinicopathological attributes of 54 cases of PAs exhibiting HMGA2 alterations, predominantly characterized by the HMGA2:WIF1 fusion, alongside a comparative analysis of their morphological and immunohistochemical profiles.
Sinonasal carcinomas account for 3% of ENT cancers. They are subdivided into squamous cell carcinomas (50%), adenocarcinomas [20%, mostly of intestinal type (ITAC)], and more rarely, adenoid cystic carcinomas, olfactory neuroblastomas (=esthesioneuroblastomas), neuroendocrine carcinomas or undifferentiated sinonasal carcinomas (SNUC). The 5-year survival rates are, in descending order, 72% for neuroblastomas, 63% for adenocarcinomas, 50-60% for large-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas, 53% for squamous cell carcinomas, 25-50% for adenoid cystic, 35% for small-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas and 35% for SNUC and newly discovered histologies.

The two main subtypes are sinonasal (sinonasal mucosal melanoma [SNMM]) and oral cavity (oral cavity mucosal melanoma [OCMM]). Consensual therapeutic guidelines considering the primary tumour site and tumour-node-metastasis (TNM) stage are not well established.

Among these, variants of conventional squamous cell carcinomas represent between 5% and 10% of cases. Patient history and risk factors are often similar from those of conventional HSNCC.

It harbors both myogenic and neural differentiation and is characterized by PAX3 rearrangement with MAML3 as the most frequent fusion partner, but the partner of PAX3 remains unidentified in a subset of cases. About 70 cases have been reported so far.

Benckiser's haemorrhage is a serious obstetrical complication, following a vasa previa rupture. Incidence of vasa previa is estimated between 1/1150 and 1/5000 pregnancies. This case report illustrates the consequences of a suspected vasa previa rupture.

The early star that is born from the gravitational collapse of a molecular cloud reaches at some point sufficient temperature, mass, and luminosity to be detected. Accretion stops, and the pre-main sequence star that emerges is nearly fully convective and chemically homogeneous.

They represent less than 10% of head and neck neoplasms. The confirmation of their diagnosis often requires a medical expertise and sometimes biomolecular techniques complementary to classical histology and immunohistochemistry.

The mainstay of treatment is surgery, with radiotherapy advocated for unresectable disease or postoperatively in case of poor prognostic factors such as high grade, locally advanced and/or incompletely resected tumors. Concurrent chemotherapy is sometimes advocated in routine practice based on criteria extrapolated from squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck, on radioresistance of salivary gland tumors and on results obtained in the metastatic setting.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAerodigestive tract tumors are very diverse, either in terms of location, or histologically. Also, this heterogeneity poses particular problems for the histological diagnosis but also for the establishment of the most appropriate treatment. Thus, the network REFCOR (réseau d'expertise français sur les cancers ORL rares/French expert network on rare ENT cancers) was created to better understand these issues, by proposing an epidemiological and diagnostic approach with research collaborations.

The aim of this review was to assess diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and criteria that may be used for a customized selective approach to avoid severe toxicities of pan-mucosal irradiation. A literature search was performed with the following keywords: cervical lymphadenopathy, unknown primary, upper aerodigestive tract, cancer, radiotherapy, squamous cell carcinoma, variants.

Rotation is thought to drive cyclic magnetic activity in the Sun and Sun-like stars. Stellar dynamos, however, are poorly understood owing to the scarcity of observations of rotation and magnetic fields in stars. Here, inferences are drawn on the internal rotation of a distant Sun-like star by studying its global modes of oscillation.

Introduction: Salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) is an uncommon entity of salivary gland cancers with a poor prognosis due to local aggressiveness or distant recurrences involving lymph nodes, lung, and long bones, in which secondary lesions are usually osteolytic. The authors report the first case of mandibular SDC, atypical due to its osteosclerotic presentation and its site, attributed to aggressive neural spread of the tumor along the trigeminal nerve.
Case Study: This asymptomatic osteosclerotic bone involvement was diagnosed based on pathological enhancement of the trigeminal nerve demonstrated on MRI and was accompanied by facial nerve involvement up to its third intracranial portion.
The 11-year activity cycle of the Sun is a consequence of a dynamo process occurring beneath its surface. We analyzed photometric data obtained by the CoRoT space mission, showing solarlike oscillations in the star HD49933, for signatures of stellar magnetic activity. Asteroseismic measurements of global changes in the oscillation frequencies and mode amplitudes reveal a modulation of at least 120 days, with the minimum frequency shift corresponding to maximum amplitude as in the Sun.

Some short-period planets, including the first terrestrial exoplanet (CoRoT-7b), have been discovered using a space mission designed to find smaller and more distant planets than can be seen from the ground. Here we report transit observations of CoRoT-9b, which orbits with a period of 95.

Unfortunately, we still have a poor understanding of how the stellar gas mixes near the stellar core, preventing precise predictions of stellar evolution. The unknown nature of the mixing processes as well as the extent of the central mixed region is particularly problematic for massive stars.
