The two heavy chains of kinesin-1 are dimerized through extensive coiled coil regions and fold into an inactive conformation through interaction of the C-terminal tail domains with the N-terminal motor (head) domains. Although this potentially allows a dimer of tail domains to interact symmetrically with a dimer of head domains, we report here that only one of the two available monomeric tail peptides is sufficient for tight binding and inhibition of a dimer of head domains. With a dimeric tail construct, the other tail peptide does not make tight contact with the head dimer and can bind a second head dimer to form a complex containing one tail dimer and two head dimers.

Methods: In the LNCaP human androgen sensitive PCa cell model, we tested five compounds purified from Lindera fruticosa Hemsley in the range of 10-50 microM for growth inhibition and AR-prostate specific antigen (PSA) suppressing potency.
Antiatherosclerotic effects of ethanolic extracts of Artemisia princeps Pampanini cv. Sajabal (ESJ) were investigated in low-density lipoprotein receptor deficient (LDLR(-/-)) mice. The Western diet-induced high levels of total cholesterol and triglyceride were similar in the ESJ and control groups.

Background: Spermatogenesis and fertilization are highly unique processes. Discovery and characterization of germ cell-specific genes are important for the understanding of these reproductive processes. We investigated eight proteins encoded by novel spermatogenic cell-specific genes previously identified from the mouse round spermatid UniGene library.

Of the various cancer cells examined, human neuroblastoma A172 cells were most sensitive to EAPP, and their proliferation was dose- and time-dependently inhibited by EAPP. DNA flow cytometry analysis indicated that EAPP notably induced the G(1) phase arrest in A172 cells.

Artemisia princeps Pampanini (AP) was fermented with Bifidobacterium infantis K-525 and its antiasthmic effect investigated. AP and fermented AP (FAP) reduced the IgE level in the blood of ovalbumin-induced asthmic mice. Moreover, FAP reduced the IgE, proinflammatory cytokine IL-6, and IL-4 levels in the trachea, as well as in the lung of the experimental asthmic mice, whereas AP only reduced the IgE and IL-6 levels in the lungs.
