This study used a police sample to examine offense characteristics, recidivism rates, and other types of sexual offending among individuals suspected of exhibitionism. The sample consisted of 202 incidents of indecent exposure perpetrated by 106 identified individuals. Demographic information showed that one quarter of the sample had symptoms of a mental illness and one quarter had a history of substance abuse.

This study examined whether different types of threatening incidents with patients (physical, verbal, sexual, or posturing) were salient to male versus female staff across psychiatric settings (inpatient forensic, inpatient acute/chronic psychiatric, and outpatient psychiatric). Results indicated that although women disproportionately experienced sexualized threats, they were not more likely to report such incidents as salient and threatening.

To better understand the mechanisms in which ERbeta can modulate breast cancer therapies, we introduced ERbeta under an inducible promoter into MCF-7 breast cancer cells. In these cells, induction of ERbeta expression led to a shift in the potency and an increase in the efficacy of tamoxifen to inhibit proliferation.

Its structure of the new compound brauhenefloroside D (1) was established as 3-O-[(alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)oxy]-7-O-[(acetyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl (1 --> 4)]-[6-O-(4-hydroxy-E-cinnamoyl)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1 --> 2)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl)-oxy]-kaempferol. The structure elucidation of the new compound was based primarily on 1D and 2D NMR analysis, including COSY, HMBC and HMQC correlations.

Deficiency of MBD4 in mice enhances mutation at CpG sites and alters apoptosis in response to DNA damage, but does not increase tumorigenesis in mismatch repair-deficient mice. However, in humans, frameshift mutation of MBD4, rather than deletion, is what occurs in up to 43% of microsatellite unstable colon cancers.

The structure elucidations of those compounds were based primarily on 1D- and 2D-NMR analysis, including COSY, HMBC, and HMQC correlations. Compounds 1-4 also inhibited butyrylcholinesterase (BChE; EC 3.

HDAC inhibitors [trichostatin A (TSA), suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) and valproic acid (VPA)], inhibited proliferation of MCF-7 breast cancer cells and, in combination with tamoxifen inhibited proliferation better than with either agent alone. VPA, an anti-convulsant drug with HDAC inhibitory activity, enhanced tamoxifen action at doses within the concentration range used for anti-convulsive therapy.

During an analysis of MBD4 expression in HeLa cells we noted the presence of an unexpectedly short reverse transcribed product. This cDNA lacked the region encoding the methyl-binding domain and exon 3 of MBD4 but retained the glycosylase domain.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) administration to clear an occluded central venous catheter especially in HPN.
Method: Retrospective study to the use of NaOH in partially occluded central venous catheters.
The Dictyostelium discoideum genome uncovers seven cyclic nucleotide PDEs (phosphodiesterases), of which six have been characterized previously and the seventh is characterized in the present paper. Three enzymes belong to the ubiquitous class I PDEs, common in all eukaryotes, whereas four enzymes belong to the rare class II PDEs that are present in bacteria and lower eukaryotes. Since all D.

K-ras encodes two splice variants, K-ras 4A and 4B, and K-ras activating mutations which jointly affect both isoforms are prevalent in lung, pancreatic and colorectal cancers. Using RT-PCR we examined their expression in normal adult human tissues and addressed whether K-ras splicing is altered in sporadic colorectal cancer by comparing normal colon with colon carcinoma cell lines, and 'matched' tumour and tumour-free colon tissues from the same patient.

In the presence of aprotic solvents, 2'-hydroxyenones undergo photocycloadditions in a manner consistent with the presence of an intramolecular hydrogen bond between the carbonyl group and the tether's hydroxy functionality. In protic solvents, intermolecular interactions appear to disrupt the intramolecular hydrogen bond, providing products with complementary diastereoselectivity.

We describe here the identification and characterization of DdPDE4, the third class I enzyme of Dictyostelium. The deduced amino acid sequence predicts that DdPDE4 has a leader sequence, two transmembrane segments, and an extracellular catalytic domain that exhibits a high degree of homology with human cAMP-specific PDE8.

The vortex core positions oscillate on a 10 ns time scale in a self-induced magnetostatic potential well after the in-plane magnetic field is turned off. The measured oscillation frequencies as a function of the aspect ratio of the dots are in agreement with theoretical calculations presented for the same geometry.

The objectives were (1) to examine the rate of sexual abuse, (2) to examine the rate of physical and psychological abuse, and (3) to develop regression models to predict these forms of abuse.
Methods: : A self-administered survey that measured demographic characteristics and psychological abuse was distributed to 217 female high-school students (aged 14-18 years).
The migration of traditional anatomy and pathology wet labs to a digital format requires significant planning and collaboration amongst key faculty, administrative, and technology personnel. In addition to conversion of course materials, the changed format necessitated the refurbishment of a traditional bench lab as a state-of-the art digital classroom, significant IT investment, and ongoing coordination by library, classroom and computer resources personnel. Standardized policies and procedures were developed to guide additional requests for software to support new educational initiatives.

When clay soils are subjected to salt concentration gradients, various interrelated processes come into play. It is known that chemical osmosis induces a water flow and that a membrane potential difference develops that counteracts diffusive flow of solutes and osmotic flow of water. In this paper, we present the results of experiments on the influence of membrane potential on chemical osmotic flow and diffusion of solutes and we show how we are able to derive the membrane potential value from theory.

Deletions are typically large and mapping efforts have thus far not lead to a well defined consensus region, which hampers the identification of positional candidate tumour suppressor genes. In a previous study, functional evidence for a neuroblastoma suppressor gene on chromosome 11 was obtained through microcell mediated chromosome transfer, indicated by differentiation of neuroblastoma cells with loss of distal 11q upon introduction of chromosome 11.

We show that both single-domain and vortex states can be stabilized in a broad region near the phase boundary. The calculated width of the bistability region and temperature dependent heights of the energy barriers between both states agree well with our experimental findings.
