Insect-pollinated legumes are rich in plant-based proteins making them a vital constituent of sustainable healthy diets for people and livestock. Furthermore, they deliver or support a range of ecosystem services that underpin agricultural production and their prevalence in agricultural landscapes is likely to increase. Under typical implementation and management, the value of legumes to pollinators has, however, been questioned.

Couple Therapy with Veterans: Early Improvements and Predictors of Early Dropout.

Family services within Veterans Affairs Medical Centers fulfill an important role in addressing relationship distress among Veterans, which is highly prevalent and comorbid with psychopathology. However, even for evidence-based couple therapies, effectiveness is weaker compared to controlled studies, maybe because many Veteran couples drop out early and do not reach the "active" treatment stage after the 3-4 session assessment. In order to improve outcomes, it is critical to identify couples at high risk for early dropout, and understand whether couples may benefit from the assessment as an intervention.

Engineering a plant community to deliver multiple ecosystem services.

The sustainable delivery of multiple ecosystem services requires the management of functionally diverse biological communities. In an agricultural context, an emphasis on food production has often led to a loss of biodiversity to the detriment of other ecosystem services such as the maintenance of soil health and pest regulation. In scenarios where multiple species can be grown together, it may be possible to better balance environmental and agronomic services through the targeted selection of companion species.

Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia as a preparatory treatment for exposure therapy for posttraumatic stress disorder.

Insomnia is present in a majority of individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, when both disorders are present, disagreements exist about whether to provide exposure therapy for PTSD before insomnia treatment, or vice versa. The current case study describes the psychological treatment of a psychotherapy-naive veteran with comorbid insomnia and PTSD.

Long-term survival after treatment for Hodgkin's disease (1973-2002): improved survival with successive 10-year cohorts.

Background: The Nottinghamshire Lymphoma Registry contains the details of all the patients diagnosed with lymphoma (since 1 January 1973) within a defined geographical area with a population of 1.1 million. It was therefore possible to study the outcome of treatment for Hodgkin's disease for three 10-year cohorts (1973-1982, 1983-1992 and 1993-2002).

A postdeployment expressive writing intervention for military couples: a randomized controlled trial.

The current study tested the effectiveness of a brief expressive writing intervention on the marital adjustment of 102 military couples recently reunited following a deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan. Active duty soldiers and their spouses were randomly assigned to write about either their relationship or a nonemotional topic on 3 occasions on a single day. The resulting design included 4 couple-level writing topic conditions: soldier-expressive/spouse-expressive, soldier-expressive/spouse-control, soldier-control/spouse-expressive, and soldier-control/spouse-control.

A loss in the family: silence, memory, and narrative identity after bereavement.

Grief theories have converged on the idea that the sharing of autobiographical memory narratives of loss and of the deceased person, especially within the family, is a major way to maintain and/or reconfigure a healthy sense of identity after a loss. In contrast, we examine unspoken memory-the withholding of socially sharing autobiographical memories about the loss and the departed family member-as a way to either conserve an existing narrative identity or assert a new narrative identity. Depending on its context and function, silence about memory can play either a positive or negative role in an individual griever's ongoing narrative identity, as well as in the larger family narrative in which the griever's identity is embedded.

Older, wiser, and happier? Comparing older adults' and college students' self-defining memories.

The present study compared self-defining memories in adults 50 years of age and older to the self-defining memories of college students. Findings are largely congruent with previous memory and ageing research, but shed additional light on how personal memories are employed to achieve a sense of identity and continuity in older adults. Older adults' self-defining memories, compared to those of younger adults, were more positive in emotional tone, more summarised and less detailed, and more likely to contain integrative meaning.

Virus-directed, enzyme prodrug therapy with nitroimidazole reductase: a phase I and pharmacokinetic study of its prodrug, CB1954.

CB1954 [5-(aziridin-1-yl)-2,4-dinitrobenzamide] is converted by the bacterial enzyme nitroimidazole reductase (NTR) into a potent cytotoxic bifunctional alkylating agent, which can be delivered to tumors in adenoviral vectors as virus-directed, enzyme prodrug therapy. This report summarizes a Phase I and pharmacokinetic study of the prodrug, CB1954. Thirty patients, ages 23-78 years (median 62 years), with predominantly gastrointestinal malignancies were treated.

A phase II study of the 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor, CV6504, in advanced pancreatic cancer: correlation of clinical data with pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic endpoints.

Purpose: Primary objective was to determine response rate of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer to a novel lipoxygenase and thromboxane A2 synthetase inhibitor (CV6504); secondary objectives included estimation of pharmacokinetics of CV6504, target-enzyme inhibition, safety and tolerance, quality of life and survival.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-one patients with advanced pancreatic cancer were planned to receive CV6504, 100 mg TDS, orally for three months, at which point CT scans were performed to assess therapeutic response rates. Steady state concentrations of CV6504 and thromboxane B2 (an indirect measure of thromboxane A2 synthetase (TA2S) inhibition) were made.

Cartilage in children's lungs: a quantitative assessment using the right middle lobe.

The amount and development of cartilage in the lungs of 150 children dying between 24 week's gestation and 12 years has been studied using standard sections of the right middle lobe. Both the cartilage-bearing bronchi and the cartilage fragments increase in number until approximately two months after birth, after which time a constant level is maintained. There is a progressive increase in the total area of cartilage in the child's lung during infancy and childhood, and this appears to be more directly related to the crown-rump length of the child than to its age.
