Data from wildlife rehabilitation centers (WRCs) can provide on-the-ground records of causes of raptor morbidity and mortality, allowing threat patterns to be explored throughout time and space. We provide an overview of native raptor admissions to four WRCs in England and Wales, quantifying the main causes of morbidity and mortality, trends over time, and associations between threats and urbanization between 2001 and 2019. Throughout the study period, 14 raptor species were admitted totalling 3305 admission records.

A bioguided study was carried out on serial extracts (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol, aqueous extract (INFU) and a crude mixture of alkaloids (ALK-MIX). All extracts were evaluated for (1) topical administration against both arachidonic acid and 12-deoxyphorbol-13-decanoate (TPA)-induced inflammation in mice and (2) per-os administration against inflammation by λ-carrageenan-induced paw oedema in guinea-pigs and (3) topical analgesia in tail flick and formalin models and per-os writhing test in mice.

A new (E)-aurone rutinoside (dunaurone) has been isolated from the aerial parts of the plant, and its structure was determined by spectroscopic means. Lupeol, beta-sitosterol, scopoletin, quercetin and withaferin A were also found.

The anti-inflammatory (topic and per os), analgesic (per os) effects and the antioxidant activity of Buddleja globosa were for the first time reported by us.
Aim Of The Study: Assess the antinociceptive activity of the methanol sequential and global extracts using complementary chemical and thermal models of pain, characterize pharmacologically the antinociception induced, evaluate seasonal influence to support Buddleja globosa medicinal use.
Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Buddleja globosa, known as "matico", is employed in Chile for wound healing.
Aim Of The Study: To validate the traditional use of the crude drug through in vivo and in vitro evaluation of the anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant properties of its extracts.
Materials And Methods: Sequential hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and total methanol extracts were studied using bioguided fractionation.
Leaf extracts of Ugni molinae Turcz. (Myrtaceae) are used in Chilean folk medicine as analgesic and anti-inflammatory. The antinociceptive effect of dichloromethane (DCM), ethyl acetate (EA) and methanol (ME) leaf extracts was assessed by intraperitoneal, oral and topical administration in writhing, tail flick, and tail formalin tests in mice.

As no reports of pharmacological studies supporting its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, extracts of increasing polarity were assayed on the base of fever, pain and inflammation, together with its antimicrobial activity. All the extracts showed pharmacological activities.

Don, Rosaceae, along with the previously reported triterpenoids oleanolic acid and 3beta-(beta-D-glucosyloxy)-16alpha,23alpha-epoxycucurbita-5,24-dien-11-one and the phenolic prunasin. The structures of these compounds were established by MS, 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments, and the structure of the new compounds were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

In addition, the evaluation of cytotoxicity in three tumoral cell lines and the acute toxicity of the crude methanol extract were also assayed, together with the antioxidant activity for the different extracts of this species. The results of the evaluation of the topic antiinflammatory activities induced by arachidonic acid, and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate of the different extracts showed that this species possesses active constituents that could diminish cyclo-oxygenase and lipoxygenases activities, the enzymes that allow the synthesis of proinflammatory endogenous substances as prostaglandin E(2) and leukotrienes, respectively.

Interestingly, there are no scientific reports available on their benefits or toxicity. This study was carried out with the purpose of validating the medicinal use of these species and to discover anti-inflammatory and analgesic new molecules.

One-dimensional quasiperiodic optical systems are studied, using a Schrödinger-like equation with a potential V(x)=2lambda(1) cos x+2lambda(2) cos alphax as an approximation to the wave equation in the slowly-varying wave approximation. It is shown that small changes in the parameter alpha produce major changes in the band structure of the system. For certain values of alpha, the band structure consists of many "thin bands" and allows the possibility of dense multiplexing.
