Visual Outcomes of Parapapillary Uveal Melanomas Following Proton Beam Therapy.

Purpose: In parapapillary melanoma patients, radiation-induced optic complications are frequent and visual acuity is often compromised. We investigated dose-effect relationships for the optic nerve with respect to visual acuity after proton therapy.

Introduction: Primary intraocular lymphoma (PIOL), associated with primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), is a rare malignancy disease. By way of a seven-year experience of a tertiary center, we discuss the presentation and we review the diagnostic and therapeutic modalities.

[DSAEK after failed penetrating keratoplasty].

Purpose: To report the anatomic and functional outcomes of Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) in 32 eyes after failed penetrating keratoplasty (PK).

Subjects And Methods: This retrospective, single-center observational study was performed on 32 eyes of 26 patients with failed PK grafts who underwent DSAEK between June 2009 and June 2013 at Clermont-Ferrand University Medical Center. Primary outcomes measured were: graft survival rates, functional improvement (visual acuity), and complications.

[Apropos of 5 cases of optic nerve tumors diagnosed during a 6-year-period].

Introduction: Optic nerve tumors are uncommon and rarely described. By way of five patients treated at the University Hospital of Clermont-Ferrand, France, over a six-year-period, we discuss their clinical and radiological characteristics, their treatment and their course.

Observations: We report two cases of optic nerve glioma in small children, two cases of optic nerve sheath meningioma and a 57-year-old patient treated for lung cancer with an optic nerve metastasis and choroidal and brain metastases.

[Carotid-cavernous fistula: comparison of clinical and neuroradiologic features pre- and post-embolization].

We report the case of an 85-year-old patient, referred by her ophthalmologist for neuro-ophthalmologic consultation at the Clermont-Ferrand University Medical Center, for conjunctival hyperemia and ocular hypertension in the left eye for 12 months. The patient's only past medical history was treated, controlled arterial hypertension and there was no mention of falling or head trauma. [A case report of syphilitic uveitis and deafness].

We report the case of a 43-year-old male patient presenting for neuro-ophthalmologic and uveitis consultation at Clermont-Ferrand University Medical Center for a reduction in visual acuity in his right eye. Two months previously, the patient had complained of decreased hearing on the left, which remained undiagnosed. Fundus examination and fluorescein angiogram showed the appearance of vasculitis with papillitis and a choroidal plaque.

Spontaneous closure of macular holes secondary to posterior uveitis: case series and a literature review.

The occurrence of a macular hole due to posterior uveitis is infrequently reported. We report the evolution of three cases of macular holes secondary to posterior segment inflammation. A complete inflammatory and infectious assessment found one case of toxocariasis, one of sarcoidosis, and one of syphilis.

[Optic nerve trauma: case report of partial optic nerve avulsion].

Introduction: Partial avulsion of the optic nerve head is a rare and severe complication of ocular blunt trauma.

Observation: We report the case of a 28-year-old man presenting to the emergency department for blunt trauma to his right eye with a basketball. Visual acuity was decreased to hand motion, and fundus examination showed a prepapillary hemorrhage.

[Case report of a 45-year-old man with uveal melanoma and suspect controlateral choroidal nævus].

Introduction: Uveal melanoma is the most common adult primary intraoculary tumor. Bilateral tumor is very rare, but must not be underestimated because early diagnosis and care improve the survival and the visual prognosis.

Observation: We report the case of a patient treated for a left parapapillary choroidal melanoma by disk of ruthenium ((106)Ru), and a follow-up every 3 months for an atypical choroidal large-sized controlateral nævus levelling the macular area.

Toxoplasmic pachymeningitis with visual field impairment in a single-eyed patient and a literature review.

[Choroidal metastases of lung neoplasm treated with external radiotherapy and polychemotherapy: a study of four clinical cases].

Aim: To report the efficacy of external local radiotherapy in the treatment of choroidal metastases.

Patients And Methods: The study reports four cases of patients with choroidal metastases of lung neoplasm confirmed by the bronchial biopsy. Polychemotherapy was associated with external radiotherapy of the ocular metastases.

Congenital nystagmus and negative electroretinography.

Congenital nystagmus is a pathologic oculomotor state appearing at about three to four months of age. The precise diagnosis requires detailed clinical examination and electrophysiological findings. This case report presents two male patients with congenital nystagmus examined longitudinally from the age of six months until 17-18 years of age.

[Unilateral uveitis with HHV6-positive polymerase chain reaction in aqueous humor for an etanercept-treated woman: a case report].

Human herpesvirus 6 is a ubiquitous Herpesviridae infecting patients during childhood. Its role in ocular disorders is mostly unknown. We report the case of a 47-year-old woman with a history of rheumatoid arthritis (treated with etanercept) and tuberculosis, who presented with sudden unilateral panuveitis.

[Case report of a 2-year-old child with palpebral rhabdomyosarcoma].

Rhabdomyosarcoma is an extremely virulent rare tumor whose early diagnosis considerably improves survival and visual prognosis. We report the case of a 2-year-old child with levator palpebrae superioris muscle rhabdomyosarcoma revealed by a sudden and isolated blepharoptosis. Initially, clinical and imaging investigations did not show any abnormality but a painful tumor with some hematoma quickly developed, so the investigations were repeated.

Phase II trial of the association of a methionine-free diet with cystemustine therapy in melanoma and glioma.

Background: In a previous phase I clinical trial of dietary methionine (MET) restriction with cystemustine treatment for melanoma or glioma, we determined the optimal MET-free diet duration to be 1 day. On this basis, a phase II clinical trial was initiated to evaluate safety and efficacy of this combination.

Patients And Methods: Twenty-two patients (20 with metastatic melanoma and 2 with recurrent gloma) received a median of 4 cycles of the association of a 1-day MET-free diet with cystemustine (60 mg/m(2)) every two weeks.
